Would Wilder Be Tempted

No, I disagree entirely. Wilder has done brilliantly with the hand he's been dealt. Everything is relative and I'm relatively sure that Kendall and Spackman wouldn't have done anywhere near as good a job as Wilder in the same situation.
That's debatable but what isn't is that they all managed united at a higher level to a decent degree of success ,in particular Warnock who took us all the way to the top

I hope wilder supersedes them all ,I prefer his style of play to any of them but he's never managed at a level higher than league one /div 3 so I think chilled beans are needed till he does

We always have these "let's worry about the future if we've got nowt to worry about now" type of threads when things are going relatively well. (Unsurprising right now admittedly, what with things going very very relatively well.)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember similar worries about Adkins being possibly tempted away during his brief "wisdom of geese" era heyday round about the Peterboro game last season?

did Warnock Kendall or Spackman take over a squad that had finished the lowest in 30 odd years , full of players to get rid of
and very little money to boot

When Warnock took over we had a shit team, 9000 crowds, skint (as per usual) and one foot in the grave. Within 3 years he had re-built the team, led us in the triple assault and 3 years later promotion into the prem. Never understood this angst towards Warnock.

Ironically, I suspect if Adkins had taken us up last season there was more chance of him being poached than Wilder. He did OK with Saints in the PL, has a championship promotion on his CV and would have had his reputation enhanced by getting us up. At the moment, CW looks like a much bigger gamble.

Like I say, I'm very much of the view that success is relative. Spackman and Kendall achieved absolutely nothing for us despite their efforts and good football. Kendall had funds too. I'm not saying Wilder is a better manager though, just a better manager for us.

Regardless, we'll have to agree to disagree on this quite clearly :)

no angst against Warnock , but he wasnt in league one , we were a mid table championship side in need of inspiring
Wilders took over a shambles of a squad , in need of major surgery

Wsnock got a patient with gall stones
wilder got one in need of heart surgery

Think the club was in a worse state when Warnock took over personally
The facilities for instance are a million miles better than when he came in ,the support is bigger ,the squad needed surgery but plenty were out of contract

Realise his reputation was trashed while he was here but, even so, still find it pretty amazing that no-one's taken a punt on him over the whole of the past year. Someone like Notts County, say, or Orient?

Maybe he's done with football management, & just doesn't want all the grief that can go with it after his experiences at the Lane.

Of course he could!!!

Say after 10 games we are doing well, and Sunderland are looking for a new manager. They will triple/quadruple his wages as a starting point. Then begin to negotiate on anything else he would want.

This could happen at any amount of clubs Villa ,QPR etc.

We have to be realistic he wouldn't jump ship to go to Preston etc. But there are so teams in the championship miles bigger than us.

That's why we need to get him to sign a contract extension with improved figures for himself.

Clubs are not necessarily bigger than any other club..........just richer due to the disgusting way that money is circulated around the game

If a club wanted to triple his wages so should United even at the expense of the transfer budget

The last few years should have taught McCabe that NOTHING within a football club is more important than the right manager

I think it may depend on how his pay off is structured. I think he's applied for a couple, can't remember where, Bury or Oldham or somewhere like that. He needs to choose his next club very carefully. He's shown he's not good at sorting out difficult clubs. The best kind of job for him will be if a successful L1 manager gets a move to a bigger club, like Clough got at Burton.

I would imagine his confidence will be shattered. If it isn't then the perception of club owners may be that it ought to be.

I'd love him to get a job and succeed but I think he's a talk-talk merchant.

I'll always remember Lallana doling out praise to all his managers except Adkins. That's when I first thought Hi-hi, we may have a problem. He even praised Pardew before Adkins' time there!

Very small minded - I would say only Newcastle are a bigger club than us in the championship. Long term it is all down to support as that is the main revenue in the championship. We are more than a match for any championship club (and a few premiership clubs). If we let him go to a similar or lesser supported team McCabe needs to go!

Until this season, he was unproven in league 1!

Thread split, off topic rubbish moved to General Chat.
