On-topic discussion of our pre-season trip to Causeway Lane.

This is tonight.

The postcode you need is DE4 3AR.

And I shall be having chips for tea :D

Maltese goalkeeper Justin Haber is in line to play when a youthful Blades squad travels to Causeway Lane to face Matlock Town on Tuesday evening, kick-off 7.45pm.

Also likely to feature is midfielder Nicky Travis who continues to build up his match fitness, after a long-term knee problem, whilst promising defender Maxime Chanot looks set to marshal the backline against The Gladiators.

United will select from... Haber, Smith, Dempsey, Chanot, Roe, Travis, Senicanin, Tahar, S-Latef, Roberts, Rhodes, Gee, Ho Lee, Brown.

Was a bit of a poor match to be honest :)

Kang Ho Lee was in the net, not Haber.

Not long after i'd finished telling Ross for the 3rd time about what a good player I think Chanot is... he went and sold the keeper short with a backpass!

A few tasty challenges from the Matlock lot, other than that, nothing much to report other than me and Keenzy experiencing "paranormal activity".

Here's some pics from last night:

I didn't take notes last night as they'd have ended up slightly damp so this isn't comprehensive.

United fielded a very small team height-wise so it wasn't too surprising when Matlock opened the scoring from a corner. In a crowded box, Ho Lee found himself surrounded by defenders and attackers alike and in the scramble, the smaller lads couldn't stand up to Matlock physically and the ball was eventually headed home.

Maxime Chanot, who has previously impressed, didn’t do his ‘keeper any favours for the second goal. A sloppy back pass got caught on the wet (and frankly, bloody crap) pitch for Matlock to poach and fire past Ho Lee.

The lads seemed to be chasing the game for long periods; unable to produce a string of passes and the high tempo at which they were trying to play the game didn’t suit their concentration or the miserable conditions.

Another corner made it 3-0 in the second half, again, Matlock using their height advantage in the box. Zeyn S-Latef produced a classy finish but it was only a consolation for the Blades.

Scorers for Matlock: Ashley Foyle, Ryan Laight and Simon Barraclough.

Teams -

Matlock Town:
Richmond, King, Featherstone, Harrison, Laight, Foyle, Jackson, Warne, Cropper, Barraclough (c), Hannah

Sheffield United:
