Would he come back? Doesn't get much play time at Everton could be possible if we return to the championship
Debate about the handball in 3, 2, 1....
Really??No thank you.
But would he take a wage cut I doubt we could afford his current wage he's getting at Everton
Cynic! You can call me a cynic, but I just don't see this one happening.
Really??
Don't see it happening, but yeah would love him back at the lane
100% yes. Love how snobby people get.
A 35yr England captain is a better than we have had in at least 7 years. Jagielka as the central CB is a no brainer.
He would come back too.
If he signed he'd be the best centre back at the club, no doubt about that.He should be good in the middle of a back 3, although that's not somewhere I recall him playing before. But there's no guarantee we'll go with a back 3, and I think Wright would cope in that role anyway. I don't think he'd be outstanding in a back 4 or anywhere else, he seems to be deteriorating rapidly.
I don't think he gives a fuck about us. I'd just see it the same as signing any other 35 year old on big wages. His connection to us counts for nothing for me. I don't think this squad needs a big name either.
If we were to sign him, and I wouldn't rule out Wilder being interested, then it would have to be within the wage structure, and ideally on a one year contract.
He would come back if the money and contract was right. If not he would go elsewhere .
Up to Wilder IMO , but doesn't fit the DNA plan of hungry 24 / 25 year olds .
If he signed he'd be the best centre back at the club, no doubt about that.
I dont care about his connections either, although they would only work in our favour if they were a factor.
I can see him joining Sunderland if they go down (or stay up) in the summer. Think he'd see that as a better bet - for wages and prospects etc. Although, let CW chew his ear off for 5 minutes and who knows.
We'll definitely need a couple of players of that ilk - experienced, older, wiser - at that level. A majority of the successful teams in the Championship have them.
I'd like a Glen Murray type striker.I'd like some experience, but ideally someone 28-31 who can still run. And then another centre half in addition to them.
Considering his age, I doubt he'd get an attractive offer from another Prem club so if he fancies continuing playing for another 1-2 seasons a Champ club is the most obvious destination. There will be others willing/able to offer more £ but playing and a pathway into coaching at Utd may well appeal.
Given CW's tendency to target players with a link/affection to Utd (Sharp, McFazdean, Gregory etc.) this wouldn't surprise me if it happened. I doubt he'd be able to play every game but a combo of him and Wright would be good to fulfil the 'organiser' role at the back.
I'd like a Glen Murray type striker.
Yeah - I only want that type of striker (ie mobile, strong, clinical, experienced) striker, not Murray himself - we're someway off competing for that kind of player I suspect. As good a player as he is, Murray is on ~£30k/week
Given his age next season should have been his last year with us if he came back.
We look like we might have got back two years too late?
