Absolutely no idea who that is - assume a junior player or a triallist? I'll go Chris Bettney.

Ville Lehtinen, player we signed from Finland in the 90s, was in the reserves and got on the bench a few times for the first team but never made the break through

I'm guessing Mote is a corruption of Moot. Most towns in Cumbria have (or had) a Moot Hall. Keswick's is quite a tourist attraction. I'd never come across the name before being here. So I'd thought it was a Cumbrian thing (they're a bit odd!) but clearly not. :)
Given it's Manor area could it be a corruption of moat?

I think it was early '70's SB...I think the date on the photo said Jan1st 1970,but don't think we played until Jan 3rd v Everton when I checked.
If had a bet on the date, it would have been against Arsenal on Oct 7th 1972. Similar weather conditions

Staff room is the ground floor bay windowed room. This is where the real school smokers were. Above staff room was Biology labs, then Physics labs and top floor Chemistry labs.

1966-1973 best days of my life.
You must have been in my year. Bill Gangles the headmaster and Jepson with his gown as deputy head !!

As you say Bill Massey, 'Gangles' was headmaster. Deputy head was Buzz Scorah. Norman Jepson was history (?) teacher, I respected him but he still gave me slipper for cheating in exams. I think he may have become Deputy Head when it became comprehensive.

Don't think Massey liked football. In February 1972, 45 years ago this week he refused us all permission to go the Pele match at Hillsborough.

Jeez. Was it really 45 years ago!! We must have bunked off as I remember going to that game

Bill Gangles! Forgot we used to call him that, made me laugh! Scorer was deputy head in my time, lovely bloke. Jeppo was just a (history?) teacher back then. His son played for King Ted's in our year group and we used to kick fuck out of him for being jeppo's son, sad I know, but good fun ☺

Is this on Shoreham St at the town end?

Jeppo taught my Dad and me at Abbeydale ,he gave the hardest slipperings ,but was actually an Ok bloke. Massey was head and Pink Floyd got him off to a tee in Another brick in the wall. The deputies were Jeppo -OK ,Frog -cunt and Longley -permed tit. The best one was Vince Cooper ,the best teacher ever ,lovely bloke , could be really hard on people but got results and made school interesting.

Yes. Formerly Kennings and now the Showroom cinema and bar.

Its an Art Deco building and the Showrrom (a charity) want to refurb the windows but keep the aesthetics of the building. Sheffield doesn't have much decent inter war architecture, so if you fancy a film and can spend your coin there, you are helping an independent city owned organisation.

Just my two-penneth.

Never came across Vince while he was deputy but he was also a PE teacher and as you say top guy. Majority of our football was done by KD (Dowswell) with help of other teachers like Roger Dunn, Hugh Pashley, Michael Thomas. I think Longley taught me geography at some stage.

Longley was history in our year ,ladies man he never left Miss Nicholls alone. PE teachers when I was there were Dowswell ,hague ,Bate and Howard Wilkinson ,none of who took the football team ,that was left to the 2nd best teacher ever Mr Poore who was a chemistry teacher.

It's a good two penneth. If Brexit screws the Showroom I'm going to tie Boris Johnson to the nearest radiator and kick his fat arse until my foot drops off.

Some great memories here for me. I never bothered academically at ABGS (as it was in my day), lazy and apathetic was one comment in my report book (that was one of the better ones). Sport was the sole reason I attended school and I was never happier when up on Springfield Rd playing fields playing football, cricket and athletics or in the gym playing basketball.
Vince was my form teacher in 4th & 5th form, hard yes, fair most definitely. He was great with me when my dad died at beginning of my last year there, showed great compassion and understanding and I've always remembered that, he died tragically young.
Dowswell too was good with me and though he was less popular than Vince, he encouraged my sport, particularly football and even got me a trial with the pigs (that's for another thread maybe☺).
Dunn, Pashley, Malc Thomas and Richard Nosowski were also others who encouraged me sport wise but could never awaken the academic in me (how I've regretted that sometimes).
Sitters, Longley? After my time that fellah, but I played cricket with and football against a lad called Steve Longley who was a teacher, could that be the one you describe so amusingly?
