Billy Sharp

Nowt like being controversial on a Sunday night but he's scored 20 should have scored 40, was rubbish first half yesterday and not much better in the 2nd half. Lavery works much harder off the ball for the team than Billy and I think he deserves his chance to partner Hanson up top. Got talking to some Boro fans after the match and they said we were the best team they have played this season by a mile but couldn't believe how little trouble Sharp caused them all afternoon.

You have to have the knack to be in the right place at the right times, Billy has this and it would not be clever management to drop your top goalscorer at this crucial part of a season.

I like Lavery too but we're getting results so why change anything?

And there you have it, a perfect example of the footballing intelligence and attitude of a large percentage of our fan base.

How many other players have scored 20 goals this season in all 4 divisions? How many players have scored 40 goals in the past two seasons in all 4 divisions?

Putting the ball in the back of the net on a consistent basis is one of the hardest things to do in the game. And Billy Sharp does it on a remarkably often basis and it's why we're top of the league.

I don't care about people's perception of what he does and doesn't do for the whole game. I care about his intelligent movement and anticipation in the box to get unmarked and score goals...and that's exactly what he did in the 87th minute yesterday to get a goal.

At most other clubs Sharp would be held up as a club legend. At ours, muppets still try their hardest to criticize him.

40 goals + in the past two seasons! Last season those goals stopped us from getting relegated. This season they'll most likely get us promoted.

Thanks Billy! Keep up the good work lad.

Billy is a goal scorer with 20 this season already to go with the 20 last season,he caused them trouble in the 87th minute when his poachers instinct put him in the right place at the right time, enabling us to win and claim the 3 points,I trust you laughed your head off at the Posh fans when they made the comment about our Billy

Keith Edwards used to disappear in games then pop up and score
20 goals is a remarkable return for Billy especially as he is probably singled out as the player to watch by other teams when they play us

Aye, not a patch on your beloved Basham is he?

Better take the top scorer out of the squad in February cos he hasn't scored 40 goals.

Never read such utter fucking bollocks in my life.

The best striker in the first division and he plays for us.

You do know we play in the first division right?

I think I can put that down as a bite then  By the way Bash was brilliant again yesterday.;)

A strange opinion of a player that has objectively contributed huge amounts to our current league standing. Couldn't care less about performances if he's scoring 20+ goals by February. Yesterday's goal was a great example of why he is such a good player. You could be forgiven for saying 'anyone could score that' as you would be correct. But just watch his movement as he drifts to the back post. That's anticipation at its best and is a quality that can seldom be taught to a striker.

Billy is the best striker we have had since, well, I aren't sure actually. We haven't had a striker similar to him since Edwards, just an out and out poacher. I aren't saying he's as good, or even the best since Edwards, but at what he does there are very few players around as good as Sharp. Got absolutely no issues with him being in the first 11 next season, if we're in the championship. That anticipation is of the highest quality.

We are way too quick to compare our players to higher levels and i think fans jump the gun on occasions, but there is no doubting this fella's record and ability to score goals. A true goal scorer and a legend in the making.

The one thing that fuckin idiot did right when in charge was to bring Billy Sharp back.

I didn't agree with him being made team captain(just added pressure, prefer centre midfielder or centre half to be captain).... but credit to Chris Wilder and Billy..

Should have scored 40..... FFS

But Sharp isn't the type of striker to cause trouble all afternoon, he's the type of striker who will stick the ball in the back of the net regardless of how he or the team are playing.

I do like the type of striker who scores goals, there's something a bit special about them.

Should have scored 40 is unfair
But COULD have scored 40 is a slight exagerration but not far off.

We create more chances that any other team in league 1 and possibly the best in England.
So all our strikers will get plenty of chances. There's been several matches where Billy could have scored an hatrick in one half. He's missed half his penalties and had several goals disallowed for various reasons.

However scoring goals is the most difficult task, so we should covet and cherish any goal scorer.

We're lucky to have him, he is class.

Let's be honest, if he wasn't a Blade there was bugger all chance we'd have attracted a championship player with his goalscoring record to drop down a division to join us.

A lot of fans take him completely for granted. Any other player with a similar record and we'd be seeing multiple threads of fans petrified we haven't got him tied down to a longer contract. Of course any other player with his talent would have requested a transfer move last summer after our dismal league standing.

Little trouble except scoring the winner you mean ?

Did you ever see Keith Edwards play ?

The attitude towards him this season has been disgraceful quite frankly, not least on this forum.
The club owes more to Billy than mere gratitude, and he barely gets even that.

I was quoting an earlier post that said he should have scored 40 which is bollox....
he misses chances because he fets into goal scoring positions.even Ronaldo Messi and Keith Edwards have missed!!!.I expect him to miss chances.. I'd be more pissed off if he wasn't getting into a position to miss them..

He's come back to his boyhood club on half the wages... Along with that is the added pressure from his two previous stints.. he's got my respect
