After just an hour we were only 2 up on Saturday when Wimbledon launched it forwards and Moore came rushing out. 2 of their players went for it and Basham and Wright both ran past Moore as though they were going to cover the goal. Moore got nowhere near the ball and it was headed over him, past Basham and Wright and luckily outside the post.

To my untrained eye Moore should have stayed on his line if he wasn't going to get it, but I wondered what somebody like Bergen think about what Wright and Basham did. It looked as though they assumed that Moore would win it and they were going back to cover the empty net. As Moore didn't get to it that gave the Wimbledon pair a virtually free header that could have just as easily gone in, made it 2-1 and a very different game.

Should one of them have continued to challenge while the other ran back, or did they do the right thing in assuming that Moore would get it - ie the mistake was solely his?

I put it all down to boredom.

Yeah I remember that incident, Moore is still not in the best of form but thankfully with Wright back in the side the defence looks more solid.

Basham and Wright could probably see that Moore was committed to going for the ball and if either, or both, of them had gone for it as well, there could be an almighty melee.
Best option to cover the goal-line.
If Moore gets lucky, no problem - if not, one of them might be able to block the ball on its way to goal. :)

I wondered at the time if Moore suddenly realised that he would be outside his area when he got to the ball and decided to keep his hands down - hence missing it altogether!

Players make mistakes and third division players more often than in higher leagues i would imagine. Hanson had a great game but gave the ball away a couple of times when we were in good positions and i would bet that every outfield player made a mistake or 2 during the game but it's quickly forgotten as play continues. Bit different for a keeper though who's the last line of defense.. Looking at some of the premiere league keepers i would say we are very fortunate to have a keeper like Moore.

I don't recall that incident at all so can't really comment on it but I mentioned on here yesterday that in the first half Wimbledon launched the ball forward and it looked like EEL was going to deal with it but Moore shouted for it, which made EEL hesitate. After shouting for it Moore then stayed on his line which made it look like EEL had made the mistake.

That's my view as well mate. You've only got to watch the Premiership and Championship games to see keepers making ricks every week. The better ones usually make less mistakes, I think Moore has every chance to learn and he'll make less as he gains experience with us. Let's face it, he hadn't played 30 games in 5 years before he came to us.

You're implying he actually knew what he was doing. Luckily unlike in previous years when we had c5nts like Collins and Doyle about, Wright put his arm round him. All sorted till next time

I was more worried about him getting injured in the first 30 seconds trying to stop the ball going for a corner. Spent the first 10 minutes looking in a bit of pain.
Hope it hasn't bruised up subsequently.

As for the incident in the OP, looked from the Kop like he'd come out and taken both their forwards out. Quite impressive.

With a keeper at this level your always going to get the odd mistake and to be fair Moore has made a couple this season.

But when you compare that to his general:
- Shot Saving
- Decision Making
- Command of the back line
- Ability to claim a cross.

He comes out as a very strong keeper who will only improve with regular football as he approaches his Peak.

Head and shoulders above any keeper we've had since Kenny.

You are having a laugh aren't you ?

If Ramsdale would have stayed Moores place would have been in jeopardy

I'm not so sure. Playing 3-5-2 is an attacking formation. It's not a way to play if clean sheets are a priority which they're not. It's inevitable teams will hit us on counter and score now and again.

I've no issues with Moore, he's a million times better than what he replaced.

Moore as a stopper, organising his defence, distribution is ok.
Commanding his six yard , his handling in the air is poor.
Any team with a winger who can cross a ball or has a long throw man we are in trouble.
But hey Jake Wright will sort it

his ploy worked , they didnt score
seen schmeichel at his peak do walkabouts outside the area
they get sent off they handle it outside the box so they all look like fish out of water

Simon Moore is 26 years old, 6/7 years until he's at peak goalkeeping age. We've got a gem.
Rubbish! 6 or 7 years he'll be finished in the game! What excuses are you trying to make? He's 26 and no one had ever heard of him until we signed him this season. We are beginning to find out why.

Caolan Lavery, Simon Moore and Ebanks LandRover!

3 very good signings methinks!

Spine of the team strengthened. Goals going in one end and prevented the other.

If we can land a defensive midfielder all the better but I'm optimistic despite the indifferent start.

Get behind Wilder! He's trying his best in difficult circumstances and he's never failed to deliver so far so....

UTB!

Looks like someone knew enough about him to suggest he was a very good signing?

Definitely would've handballed it if he'd touched it

I must admit, I was surprised how we managed to get him judging by his early performancss. That reason is becoming clearer. However, I still think he's a great keeper for this league.

Agree Bartyblade spoken like a coach have you got your EUFA a badge?

Moore is a good keeper.

Ramsdale, as I knew he would, has just got betterer and betterer since he left all those years ago....
Ah spoken like a true student of the game.

just watched this back and a defender joining the mix would have just made more of a problem. The keepers given the call and its his. Poor decision from Moore, he'd have been picking the ball off the floor if he'd let the defence handle it.
