Bert suspects that our Nowegian correspondant might be able to name this lot.........

Great memory. I too think Simpson kept some of his hair. Score was 3-0, and I think the keeper was one of my favourites, Jack Kelsey. Always seemed reliable. Do you remember the fog that night? I was on the Kop, and we only knew a goal had been scored from the noise of the crowd. Very weird. When was the last time a match was played at the Lane in fog like that? We were worried the match would not last to the end.
I remember the fog as well.
I thought I had got the goalies name wrong and now clearly remember it was Jack Kelsey as you say.
Strange how the memory slips up sometimes but it was 1958 59 years ago.
Not 1957 as I first thought as the month I started work was 02 September 1957 so the 3rd round cup would be played January 1958.

I do not recall Simpson being bald but he possessed a cracking shot on him.
I recall he levelled the score at Highbury in 3rd round cup in 1957 when we brought them back to the lane and won 3-1.
Arsenal's keeper Jim Funnel broke his arm, no subs then.
Was working late so just got into ground for evening k/o creeping into the lane end, John street corner entrance, it was packed out.
Had already travelled to Highbury by coach for the first game.

When I saw him he was at the end of his United career KB and I was at an age where anybody hadn't got a barnet like Jagger was bald as a coot. I've just dug this old pic of him up from 1964, I'd probably think he'd got a full head of hair if he was playing for us now. ;)

I got to know Bernard quite well when he owned the Prince of Wales at Baslow. I think he run that pub for the best part of 30 years. A smashing bloke who used to get so much stick off me for ending up at the dark side. He did used to say that at least he took them down to the 3rd though in mitigation. ;)

You never lose it, do you?:)
