Which game was that which you believe you saw?

SUFC 5 - 0 Arsenal. Some years ago, but IICR, the entire Cherry Streey end (as it was the cricket pitch then) suffered badly from the weather.

Pommpey even owns a video of us beating Swansea by a similar score some years ago.

When we beat Shrewsbury earlier this season, was that on a Desso pitch?

Your assurances of better performances on the Desso are undermined by the fact that we played like cunts last season. On the Desso.

pommpey

You might have seen them dominate - but you've NEVER seen any Blades side pass the ball around like we're doing this season!!!!

Do we do that away, then?

I'm not sure you see. We do tend to win quite a lot though.

Have they all got Dessos too?

Bert did not make assurances of better performances. He merely pointed out that our passing game (which we didn't play last season) is better performed on a decent pitch.
He was also at the Arsenal game, along with a thousand other games and he has yet to see us dominate for the entire 90 minutes.

Bert thought that the Royal Navy had discontinued the free rum rations. Obviously not.

Hang on. You have me confused here. You are saying that:

a. We play a passing game this season.
b. We have a better playing style

But:

a. We have a new manager and largely a new team
b. We still play on the same pitch

Now, just to clarify. Last season, we didn't play a passing game because we neither had the players capable of, the tactics are different (which are irrelevant of playing surfaces, because we still win away on non-Desso pitches this season) and we had a manager who couldn't motivate or strategize effectively against oppositions. But miraculously, this season because we have a Desso, McCabe's brilliant masterplan of buying the fucker is a doozy. Yet Bert still fails to answer the question or even shape the posit:

Why have we won on non-Desso pitches in the past (and this season) with the passing game, and some which have been effectively cowfields?

Doesn't Bert think he is being just a leetle beet fallacious with the real reasons why we are winning (Manager/Players and acquisition and hopefully retention thereof) rather than using this as some pointless Desso-fest with which to justify fuck all?

He was also at the Arsenal game,

... here it comes, as predictable as the 33 bus used to be ...

along with a thousand other games

Yup. Box ticked. Bigger Blade Qualifying Statement.

and he has yet to see us dominate for the entire 90 minutes.

Fucking no idea.

Run Ration went in the 70s, so a bit before my time.

What you are on about in context, nope.

How many shots have we had at making a successful appointment? How many managers have been here since the last fleeting brush with the top flight? How many have made a pigs arse of it? How many have mysteriously been sacked? Do you know why Blackwell went? What about Wilson?

I am still unconvinced we won't sell players, right up until the last seconds of 31 Jan 2017. I am unconvinced Wilder will be here next year. McCabe is an unpredictable catalyst in an equally unpredictable situation. I felt better with Bassett and his situation with the board back then than I do with Wilder and McCabe right now.

I don't trust McCabe any further than I could throw him.

pommpey
Really? I'd never have guessed.

Only 9 days now pommpers, not only are we keeping our best players but we are also buying and putting in bids for others.

Bidding for who?

Yup, seen a few inwards, Carruthers and Riley, neither proven world-beaters. Also achieved an extension of sorts on EEL.

For once we might ... just might ... not sell someone like Coutts, Lavery, Sharp or Duffy. Nine days. Nine days. We shouldn't be counting down the days until the door shuts, we should be anticipating a marque signing form the two divisions above to complement the hard work the midfield and Sharp put in and further strengthen.

This is all in the gift of McCabe, the man who has flattered to disappoint every year around this time.

And Bert is still not answering any of pommpey's questions, ref: the Desso pitch.

pommpey

How often has any team made a "marquee" signing in January that has made an immediate impact which has led to success.

Genuine question as I can't think of any of-hand.

Hoof = pitch unimportant
Passing = pitch more important
Bert = optimistic
pommpey = incredibly pessimistic about every single aspect regarding Sheffield United.

First you were predicting that McCabe would be selling but when it's obvious that he won't be you then move the goalposts and demand a marquee signing from the Premier League.

It isn't obvious he won't be selling. Remember that bloke Nick Blackman? Whoda thought, eh?

And yes, we need someone to fill Sharp's shoes. Remember that bloke Ched Evans? Whoda thought, eh?

Formation, tactics, capability of players and managerial acumen far more important than Desso pitch.

Again, Bert. Pommpey points out that this season we have beaten teams comprehensively on non Desso pitches. If we hadn't and we'd beaten every team at home this season with the same passing game and dominated teams as much as Bert said he'd have a point.

But that isn't the case, is it?

There is only one person that it isn't obvious to.

Pommpey, Bert. Deadbat's match reports are of the highest quality and unsurpassed in the media never mind on here.

FFS do not spoil the thread with all your nonsense. It drives people away from quality debates. There are plenty of threads about 'regurgitated hobbyhorses'.

Apologies, I'm doing three things at once - Chelsea game, Music playing and Forum. Thought I was still on Match Report. Sorry.

Even if it was on the match report thread you are out of order telling people what they can write about.

'Out of order' making a serious point of view without any malice, vulgarity or personal insults, just expressing a view which I have held for years and choose to say these days because I believe it more than ever. As a fan and a Forum member and an old man I have a right to say what I think surely.

Bert should be well aware that 'as an old man' qualifies WWF to intervene in most dialogues which feature a counterpoint to the bleeding-heart, pro-McCabe positivism we are well accustomed to.
