For once I'm relatively ITK here.

The extension he signed involved a release clause. One that we can match if we're serious.
Barnsley were interested pre-Winnall sale, they'll be more so now but their first choice is apparently Bogle.

2 Blades up top, that'd be unreal.

The release clause is £1m and it was put in there at his request. His wages shouldn't be a problem either.

Is the release clause able to be activated now or only in the summer?

I think he could be the most likely signing for us up front in this window. Could he play well enough with Sharp though?

And just to think, Morgan begged Clough to sign him. £200k I think it was

The amount of good players Clough (and Adkins) passed up is unreal.

Yeah he did, 200k plus add ons. Clough decided on McNulty instead and the rest is history. Now we can potentially sign him for 800k more.

I didn't ask as I assumed it can be activated at any time. I'm not sure about the partnership with Sharp, they do play a very similar role.

Gregory is a willing runner, and he's quite athletic. I think they'd suit but it'd take a few games. It's not an overnight fix. Would mean the end of Clarke imo which is a shame but it just hasn't worked so far.

Yep, Gregory, Mawson, Morsy, Daniel Johnson to name but a few.
All while trying to pursue fucking Chris O'Grady and fucking Dan Burn respectively.

Wilder's transfer market approach has made both of them look like complete and utter amateurs.

He'll be 29 in Summer, so no spring chicken, but at 6ft 2" would give us some height up front (if Clarke is moving on for some reason).

And Dean Hammond.....that dragged on for a while as well

In fairness we offered Mawson a contract but he opted for Barnsley over us. He was wooed by Lee Johnson.

be a great signing imo not sure we would pay a million however but i think clarke and mcnulty will both be moved on neither will cut it in the championship if we get there

Adkins should've never let it happen, his potential was way above anything we had and we were desperate for a centre half. If we've allowed a manager to 'woo' them to fucking Barnsley over us something has gone very wrong.

Personally I think he would be a cracking signing. Currently in form, hard working and works the channels. Could you imagijne this guy playing for Wilder. He would bounce off the walls in the tunnel on the way out

Send McNuts, Scougs and Clarke to get the deal done for me.

If so, and I'm not doubting the logic of your point, should Clarke be moved on he'd expect a payoff relative to the three and a half year contract he was offered to get him to come to the Blades? I checked the player's contracts but Clarke isn't currently listed.

Is it really a good idea to post on who's been seen at Shirecliffe or the Lane before they've signed?

If I was trying to quietly sign someone decent and then the day before someone publicises it to the world via the bots that hoover up everything on this site I'd be livid.

No problem with anything already in the public domain or papers though.

Make no bones about it there's no quiet signings these days. Soon as one team is interest the agent will be trying to ring around and find a higher bidder with a better wage for his client and a better fee for him. A post on a forum won't change anything.

I think we'd easily find a buyer from 2/3rd of League One, as well as Donny and Pompey in League 2. Clarke will still be hot property.

Hope so, just a pity we felt we had no option than to offer a contract of that length.....oh well, first let's sign Gregory, or whoever, then decide on whether CW still wants to keep Clarke.

Barnsley offered him first team football, we didn't, it was as simple as that (worked at Barnsley at the time and a mate of mine got told off by the chief exec for tweeting saying he was at the ground being shown round)

Probably not SB, but on this occasion, no one has siad he has been seen...........yet

If any of the above does happen and Clarke is deemed surplus to requirements and shipped out, will Wilder and Knill get any abuse on here, should never have brought him in, , such as waste of a place, far too much money, 3 1/2 year contract etc etc, because if clough or adkins were still here the amount of stick would have gone on for around a week, the answer is, of course they wont because Wilder has too much support. However it would be a (slight) black mark dont you think? or would it be he's a good manager and realised his mistake and acted even if it has cost us?

I completely agree, maybe though Mawson had the foresight to see where both us and Barnsley would be at the end of the season.

Based on the fact he's playing PL football now, seems like a masterstroke on his part.

Is this aimed at me?

If so, I should point out that I'm not in the know, and don't know anything about Clarke's contract. I just happen to be friends with 2 footballers at other clubs who mention the odd thing here and there in conversation.

I disagree, I think finding a buyer for Clarke would be difficult. I doubt many clubs could offer comparable wages to what he's on here.

I think it's a valid question, but there are (to my mind) two mitigating factors that would absolve there being too much blame:

1- Clarke is of a calibre at this level that means he can be moved on fairly effectively without horrendous losses being made; and

2- the speed of his departure will confirm once again that CW isn't too proud to realise his mistakes and put things right quickly (Adkins and Clough both terrible at this).

Bonus third reason, we are top of the league, CW is currently my favourite person in the world, closely followed by AK ;)
