He's not the sort who can run in behind defences and hold onto the ball? Just because he plays with a big man doesn't mean he can't compete in the air himself. He's not a short arse.

Odd,read his description of Gregory as a player,he is nothing of the sort,he plays with a big man up front at Millwall for starters, and he will not be handing a transfer request in,because it would mean him losing a lot of money
What description?

funny thing is that Gregory and Clarke are both 6'2 and I think Gregory would still be better value for money than Clarke at say 300k

Would love Gregory here. There's no chance though. Even if we sold DCL for £1.5m we'd use it to plug holes, not for transfer fees

Probably true. But better value doesn't put cash in the bank.

Millwall will be in a similar position to MK....they won't want a rival to be stronger.

Add to that the fee.....we won't be paying that kind of money for a player again in this league. Even if we were to sell DCL...who I actually think will be sold to fund the players we have recently purchased anyway.

All the pap about him being a blade.....that didn't work with McFadz, so why think it will here. We might try that line, but asking Gregory to lose out on over 100k to hand in a transfer request is not going to happen. Only way it would was if we could get him cheaper and pay his bigger signing on fee for him instead.

I'm confident this won't happen

Show interest, unsettle the player at his club, player hands transfer request in, then we go in with a realistic bid.
If it goes tits up like it did with McFadzean and he ends up at a bottom end championship club from Milwall not wanting to sell to a divisional rival, then so be it.
MK losing their best defender then Milwall losing their best striker is nothing but a boost to our promotion chances.

Wages aren't the problem as I understand it. The fee is ( not £1.2m).

Paying a lower transfer fee and making up Gregory's loss via a signing on fee probably means spending the same amount of money anyway so that's, as said, highly unlikely.

If we are going to end up selling one of our first teamers for in excess of 3m, then wouldn't this type of signing make more sense than Clarke?

When this was first posted, there was not the momentum regarding a bid for Adams.

Would replacing Adams with Gregory be a better move for the team?

About 1.5m might seem a hefty fee in League One but not when you are taking in 1.5-2m more in the other hand.

The going rate for a full back .:)

It's the sort of thing that's worth consideration but only if we had almost all of the Adams fee to spend. We still need to strengthen in a lot of positions so the best option would be to do what we should've done in January 2014 and spread the substantial investment throughout the team rather than on one player - even though we currently need another centre forward far more than we needed a right back.

Suggestion:

Sell DCL for £1.5m+, sign Gregory for £1.2m.

Look at it like that and it could be a possibility couldn't it?

But would it be wiser to spend any cash from selling DCL on at least three players? Gregory would be great for us though so it's debatable.

Stop it, I've just had an operation and laughing hurts.

I'd happily have him on board, althought I do wonder how much £££'s it would take for us to get him.

I hope so would be an excellent signing, should be as expensive as was quoted in the summer as hes out of contract at end of seasons

Wiki says he's only played 6 times this season is that right?

Latest down at Shirecliffe is that Wilder is very keen.

I put this on around Xmas time, think it was on the Webster and Gregory thread.

Wilder is definitely interested. According to Gregory "Wilder loves me" (and that's a direct quote)

He would love to play for United and has a £1m release clause in his contract.

Edit: just to add, the interest in Webster was confirmed as well
