As taxpayers, we all pay for the Policing outside the ground. Clubs only pay for the Police presence inside as established by Harris v. Sheffield United Football Club Ltd (CA 1988). Admittedly, I expect there will be more Police in the ground, but the main operations will be between the Lane and Railway station.

The Met had done a job on Millwall last time and prevented 100 or so of their known morons from travelling/turning them round as soon as they got to Sheffield. And that's the thing. The Police know who the idiots are.
 
Gods sake, will have to haul my arse out of bed now to give millwall a kicking. Seriously though, there will be only 1 firm handing out kickings and it aint millwall or blades. Syp will be polishing them batons right now. UTB
 
So this 'flag day', it's not what I'm thinking is it? Where the Millwall fans are selling 'flags' in support of their chosen charity, you drop 50p in the tin and some kindly gent or lady carefully pats a sticker showing your support for Battersea Dogs Home on your lapel.

The Millwall fans at Rotherham liked to throw their money around, the only problem was that they were pretty indiscriminate when throwing it. If you google Millwall Flag Day. you should get a flavour of it...
 
Remember last season when we played them at BDTBL - after the match there were loads of groups of Blades hooligans congregating and looking for bother so it's just as much our idiots as theirs. But if they will label it Flag day, I guess it's inevitable

I googled it and got plenty of stories about what Millwall fans did at Rotherham a year or two back. But I'm still baffled at what a Millwall flag day is, other than a day for a ruck.

That's the one, and the beasts sometimes put the sticker on your suede jacket before you have time to tell them not to, and then refuse to pay the dry-cleaning bill. It's an outrage.
 
We've instigated pretty much all of the bother with Millwall in recent times as far as I can gather.
They'll cause havoc at Rotherham or Doncaster but are comparatively timid when they come to Sheffield. I've certainly never had any trouble from them either home or away. Then again it helps when you don't go looking for it.
 
I've never forgiven them for the Can Of Fosters Thrown At My Nose From Point-Blank Range At Toddington Services incident.

Do you remember them falling over themselves in the Bramall Lane Lower to get to United fans in the South Stand a couple of years back? That was the worst disorder I've seen from away fans since Leeds in 2003 (though not as bad).

I think it dates back to the 70s/80s when some clubs idiots (Including ours) used to leave stickers or visiting cards at the scene of any bother, a great deal can still be seen at away grounds if you look around for them when you go, they are usually along the lines of "When you wake up. You've been visited by Mansfield Massive".. The sticker/cards are usually emblazoned with a 'Stone Island Badge'.

Depends how long back. My attendance at football was pretty sporadic between 2010-2014.
I doubt they would've lasted long on the South Stand in any case.

I have actually. Well nearly. Had a drink with a couple of their lads in Frankfurt in 2006. Good laugh tbf.
 
They've never taken Dempsey's.

They did though beat us at their Pole Day Danceathon.

Would have been in that window, aye. They didn't get into the South Stand, but I hate seeing stewards getting battered (they're not all bouncers) whilst plod aren't in attendance.

No interest in the game - just being twats. This time I think they'll be in the upper tier.
 
I've noticed this feeling this season, for the first time. Most of our promotion campaigns, successful or otherwise, have featured cup runs, and/or games in hand (possible exception of 08/09 playoff debacle).

This season though, we've had a few moments of getting the points on the board, pressure on the other teams. Suits us beter I reckon.

The only time I've ever "played against" my own club. The case was tried, at first instance, by Mr. Justice Boreham (and his wife, who always sat next to him, wearing a hat, on the Bench) in the High Court of Justice, sitting at Sheffield.

Reg was very ill-advised to fight the case. The common law authorities were all against him. He never had a chance. Then he was daft enough to throw more money at an appeal, also doomed to fail.

A couple of interesting ironies:

The plaintiff was the now defunct South Yorkshire County Council which was not a body corporate, so the case had to be brought in the name of of its Chief Executive, an otherwise inconsequential man by the name of...John Harris.

The SYCC legal team was led by the late David Bentley Q.C, later to be the fearsome Judge Bentley Q.C, a lifelong Blade who followed the team, sometimes in my company, all over the land (occasionally driving us home in his battered old Metro after several pints). He was assisted by a much younger version of me.

Without a doubt, they were last season.

At least they picked the right side to have a go at. I've seen both Cardiff and Swansea charge towards the Family Enclosure before, blatantly without provocation either. Scumbags.
 
March 11th, Fa cup quarter final day.

Millwall host Watford in round 4, if they win they will be one more win away from the quarters.

That would be 'flag day' fucked.

I remember the League Cup match in '03 when loads of Utd fans ran on the pitch at full time to give it large and goad all the Leeds fans............who were all housed in the upper tier!
