I only remember Ewood Park of the early 80s as being shit. Concrete terraces to stand on with the toilets being a square building which could accommodate about 8 people, after about 5 minutes a river of piss started flowing out of it and down hill, then people just pissed up the walls at that point. Thinking about it that was where the fans in the seating on the terrace next to us smashed up the seats so they could throw them!

Surely Bury is pretty grim.

Bury's is a nice little ground in a nice little town, in my opinion. Hardly glamorous but I'd say it's pretty low down on the shithole scale in comparison to Hartlepool, Vale, Grimsby etc.

Mentioned this before, but last time we were at Port Vale, driving back, we saw a group of OAP Skin birds outside a pub (seriously), all aged late 50's or early 60's, in crombies and doc martens, like aging rejects from "This is England". Burslem, what an absolute utter shit hole.

Mentioned this before, but last time we were at Port Vale, driving back, we saw a group of OAP Skin birds outside a pub (seriously), all aged late 50's or early 60's, in crombies and doc martens, like aging rejects from "This is England". Burslem, what an absolute utter shit hole.

Went to Vale back in about 95. Terrible game ended 0-0 and a terrible place

That was 96. Very bleak. Getting rained on the entire game and a bloody awful game.

(97 was also 0-0, but that was the infamous Ainsworth tackle game, so you'd probably remember that!).

I must be one of the few with a bit of a soft spot for Vale. In my first season they were our rock solid competitors for second place, and one night whilst I was hunkered down in the back of my parents' car being driven across the Snake Pass, it was announced on the radio that Wolves had been promoted. From which I deduced Vale hadn't won that night - a huge result for us as they were so consistent. If they'd won I'd probably have a different opinion...

That and I once worked with a consultant who was Vale fan and a recovering alcoholic. Lovely bloke - he knew all about the Blades, and he let me copy gigabytes of music onto my work PC which kept me entertained for years.

Total randomness but upon such things warm feelings are built.

You're quite right, but as I think I mentioned at the time, there was a punk nostalgia weekend on in Burslem so there's a fair chance they weren't locals.

Yep. We sit in South Stand F so get to hear the away fans and I remember them singing it because I thought at the time how ironic it was considering I've been to Port Vale on a few occassions and can't see the attraction myself.

It's amazing how many fans from small non-descript towns get to BDTBL and then decide then want to go home again mid-game.
Personally, if I was a steward I'd open the gates and say 'there you go then. bye.'
