Nevr about money, far from it, always about the manager.

At long last thank goodness.

We know it makes sense!! Not enough youth players for me as yet though - please don't go there though!!

As someone who watches the youth a reasonable amount first hand that's because none of them are ready yet Woody. Surely you don't want us to lose just so a few kids get game time?
Reed is miles off and he's one of the better ones.

Should be at least 1 or indeed 2 if we include Ramsgill on the bench each week. Not a big issue with Reed , he's still very young, should be out on loan though.

"I didn't, I didn't do this, I didn't do that, I didn't............" What did you do?

I supported them throughout. I watched game after game after game. Did you? I did, didn't you?

"Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel". To paraphrase, "I go to games, therefore my point of view is more valid than yours".

Two things. If you are willing to pay my transport fees to and from Bramall Lane (and away games) and fulfil my family duties with regard stuff I do at weekends (like transporting my granddaughter to school, for one example) then I'll attend. Gladly. Be aware, the cost to you, to simply fulfil some non-metricized criteria will be fucking vast, but if it ticks your box, then make it happen. Secondly, I have supported Sheffield United throughout. Right back to being a nipper. Even though I left Sheffield in 1979, the year we were languishing in the lower divisions. Even though I have lived 225 miles away from Sheffield for more than two thirds of my life, and more successful teams were readily available to support.

Try and stay on the subject of the argument (McCabe and his gash stewardship) rather than retorting to ad hominem and Bigger Blade bullshit. Leave that to Pinchy, eh?

The thread was not about McCabe per se, but your " argument" is though, see what I mean?

I withdrew the comments about you not attending matches but there has to be the point that those who do go have far more to tolerate than you Pommps.

Like who? Is there anyone on the board who go to every game - and I mean every game - from distance? If they do, I'd like to see what they do for a living and what their commitments are. This is the whole nub of the fallacy that to make comments on how the club runs and it's fortune hinges on whether you click the turnstiles. It's bollocks and it is the fucking Vauxhall Conference of any supporting argument. It's like saying 'if you don't sit in the House of Commons public gallery and watch and listen to the debate - every day - how can you have any opinion whatsoever of political affairs?' In fact, how can you form any opinion which constitutes validity to vote?

If people travel distances to watch United they deserve my admiration and respect as much as those who live within the distance to hear GCB being sung at kickoff. But their opinions have equal validity to overseas supporters who submit an opinion. They are no less Blades than each other, and it's the base level argument to suggest otherwise.

Like I say, I don't need a season ticket to suggest McCabe has jizzed a sizable amount of money away.

Anyway J O'C has just scored. Hurrah for us.

Where do me and the wife stand Pommpey. We have season tickets and travel 2 hours each way for home games plus a handful of away games. We are 69 years old. Do you "admire" us, don't see why you should actually, more sympathise maybe. Do you get to United's away games. Are you at Southend right now? Is it far?

Wilder will have cut the wage bill substantially by the financial year end . That's guaranteed unless we go really mad this JTW and we've no need to do that.

Do the sums Tezza - squad reduced by more than 10 players I'd say and Che sold for a big fee to add to cash flow. Big savings compared to last 3 seasons.

You don't need to do any sums to see we generate and spend a lot of money for this division, just a bit of balance needed, and you'd realise straight away we could be accused of spending our way out by other teams..... they all agree we shouldn't be here with our support and finances, but it's not all about money is it.... however it doesn't hurt does it...

Having enough money to pay decent wages, and a good manager that's going places is the dream ticket isn't it... you need both, any idiot can just spend away and take you nowhere... remember a certain Legend a few years ago..

I admire anyone who goes to the match. I respect their POV and even if I had attended and they hadn't, would never call them lesser Blades. If you are within 2 hours of BDTBL, then you are a shit-site closer than I'll ever be and with between 4 hour (on a good day with the A34/A43/M1 in good order) and 6 hours (as I have experienced) each way trip (between forty and sixty quid on fuel, twenty on food) I think attending each game is pretty much unsustainable, unless you'd like to foot that bill?

Southend is 130 miles away from where I live. That is possibly less than some hardy souls at the match today there from Sheffield. They deserve my respect ... but those sat at home watching from wherever also deserve my respect. They are Unitedites. They aren't any less Bladesmen.

If United play in the nearby counties, I do my best to attend. I do know supporters who don't do long distances like that. Am I a bigger Blade? Am I fuck. As the nearest games this season are possibly Oxford United and Swindon, my opportunity is 28 Jan and I am indeed planning to go, commitments precluding. I don't look down on those who don't go, even those who live close by.

Our home games are 115 miles away from us Pommpey, each and every one. Southend is 120 miles from you and you may have had the opportunity to go. I just make a point, rightly or wrongly. I understand the contra-arguement but I can't help thinking it. See what I mean. You have such strong, passionate views and yet you don't go out of your way when there is a local game.

So that makes you a bigger Blade, and your opinion more valid? It also makes your unbending loyalty to a man who has squandered considerable amounts of opportunity and cash sustaining this club in Division One for too many seasons an absolute and never open to debate? I see.

So tell me this. Would my attendance have altered any of this? You are arguing about moving the turnstiles and witnessing games, I am arguing about mismanagement of the club. Get some perspective.

I think Woodwardfan has won this debate against pommpey by an absolute country mile.

Well done WWF

After what I posted to you last week I must say that you are a very big man to say that now. Did I get you wrong Brownie?

I've tried so hard over a long time with Pommpey. I recognise qualities and weaknesses in Pommps, we all have them, but he is anti SUFC doing well, he hopes for further failures. I have to fight that, we will only succeed with a United club.

You are 30 years my senior WWF, so I believe that someone with your knowledge, wisdom and experience should have their opinion taken perhaps more seriously than others.

I've particularly liked the way that you have taken Pommpey apart on this thread

The point I've tried to make before, which turned into bigger Blade nonesense, is that there seems to be no limit to your demands on how much McCabe should inject every year. I can't help to find that ironic, given the number of games that you attend (next to none, by your own reckoning). I accept your situation makes it very expensive, and isn't comparable with mine. I would also suggest that the vast majority of people who were demanding more investment would have seen a seated BTDBL more than a handful of times.

When you criticise the mistakes made by McCabe, I'm right behind you. He's been a right fuck up, in reality.

You have tended to spill over from that, and really go for the level of investment. Given your situation, that remains to be a bone of contention in your posts, for me.

Age is no reason for allowances unless we are talking about the past, the long past. I actually think I'm a modern football man, more's the pity, I hate the modern game!!

Hey Brownie, thanks for the latitudes you have allowed me. I know I'm a pain ( quote Lord Bos).

UTB.

The point I've tried to make before, which turned into bigger Blade nonesense, is that there seems to be no limit to your demands on how much McCabe should inject every year.

No. I insist he fulfils his duty to the club and its fans by stopping selling our best players and supporting the manager in his campaign to get us promoted. That isn't a groundbreaker or a showstopper. Getting rid of Blackman, Quinn, Lowton ... et al hasn't exactly been a successful gambit, has it? And don't echo the 'if they want to go, we can't stop them.' Murphy signed a three year contract, leading us all to believe he'd be here a bit longer than he was.

Again (and I am fed up with repeating this) it has no influence on opinion which, how many and if I attend games. Did you vote in the last election? How many Parliamentary sittings did you attend? I bet you have an opinion about NHS spending though, don't you? If I attend some sittings, does that make your opinion less valid than mine?

When you criticise the mistakes made by McCabe, I'm right behind you. He's been a right fuck up, in reality.

I'm glad we agree. I'm sure many fans overseas who haven't been to a game for years (or ever) will agree also.

You're right, and it is. And its not just level of investment. It is level of uninvestment also. Sell talented players and the results tell their own tale. We now have a clutch of talent, steered at last by what looks like the definitive package in management. I pray McCabe doesn't buckle at offers before Feb 1 and get rid of someone like Duffy for a fast buck who is, like much of the team, turning it on for us at the moment.

And finally, I hope McCabe fulfils his pledge that 'think Liverpool'-style investment follows if we go up, to enable Wilder to continue the fight.

In fairness, the OP is total and utter bollocks. It's almost all about money. Who are the 6 richest teams in the country? Who are the top 6 teams in the country? The same six...

Quite right at that level, but we are not there yet nick. At our level it's the manager and the manager alone, with a splash of a certain level of cash of course!!

There's been nothing wrong with the level of investment. It's been about how we've wasted it. Given that, sales become inevitable.

None the less, the capitulative sale of Blackman is an example of another ridiculous decision.

I refer you to a post of yours a few months ago, where you estimated the income from gate receipts in an attempt to argue against the level of McCabe's input. Your numbers were wholly ridiculous. Couple this with your annual rejection of the facts, laid out in the accounts. It's quite clear that you are unprepared to view the financial side objectively.

So ... you agree ... McCabe has spunked an inordinate amount of cash, and flogged key players who would more than likely have had a positive effect o our restoration to the Championship. I don't doubt you'll also agree then that his hiring of manager has been absolutely shit, since Warnock was forced to resign. I mean, saving his face rather than being publically known to have not had his contract renewed. McCabe's hiring of these managers has cost us many, many sacksful of cash, has it not?

And you want to dig up old posts. Good one. If it ticks your box, then fill your boots alcoblade. My facts are that year on year, we have been disappointing, despite pretty good income from gates that have not dipped below 15k. The only other consistent certainty during that time apart from the gates, has been Kevin McCabe, and the selling of talented players. Do I need to examine the accounts to see that?

No. I don't. I'm glad you have shut up about how many games I have been to, mind.
