Nevr about money, far from it, always about the manager.

Lydon, why should a rest from the forum make anything I say unbelievable. I left and I came back, is that such a big deal? I grow weary of battling trolls and sad about some behaviour on here, that's all; I love the forum and have to curb my involvement, it can be addictive and there's more to life. Taking a sabbatical helps rejuvenate the batteries, is that such a sin?

I don't know you but I do know that Woody (and Currie) were my two heroes from 70/71 onwards. Picking a monicker like that automatically buys you some credibility in my book.

I've only been on here 18 months but I think that your big problem is that you wear your heart on your sleeve. You are sometimes painfully too 'pro' even when it is obvious you are fighting a lost cause. You are probably too old to change who you are, but don't let the responses get you down.

You are obviously a 'proper' Blade and have served your time. You have a point of view and are perfectly entitled to it.

I take the piss in many of my posts. Generally, if it it is given back I can usually nod a grin back but sometimes the red mist descends. T'internet can be a great resource but can seem a crap place too. Ignore all those nasty twats* and keep on keeping on.

All said and done, you are a Blade.

We are all Blades.

Even......Barney.....and er..... Pinchy er......we are all still, sort of.......Blades.

* Some of those really nasty twats may have been me. I think on those occasions my account was probably hacked.

I'll be accused of playing the martyr but frankly I find hardly any need to try to rescue morale on here while we are top of the league.

When times are bad it is really hard to strive for balance on the forum because the anarchists who often make things up have ready audiences and particularly young fans who did not witness all those goings on over the years and do not know any better; that worries me and the animosity inevitably spreads to the terraces. I'm a fan and on here my way of supporting is to remind members of the positives when all is doom and gloom. At times it's open season on here.

WHF did that to support Adkins and was villified and chased off here.

In actual fact I think the records will show that I started to suss out both Clough and Adkins before things went bad and I said so on here. I was against the appointments of Robson, even more so Blackwell, even more so Wilson and was in the car park that day. I do not have blind faith, nothing like but I have a sense of duty to younger fans who deserve to hear some balance when things are tough.

It takes all sorts and I am one of a sort, that's all. As a result I infuriate some members and this post most certainly will but it's what I believe.

Lads. I grew up supporting a small town club that were never going to do anything other than bounce between the bottom two divisions, played in front of sparse crowds and looked forward to local derbies against Mansfield as the high point of the season. I'd probably be still doing so now if I still lived there and their support didn't include so many small-minded bullies and bastards.

Being a Sheffield United fan is a privilege. There have been some desperate times but we all know that, in every meaningful way, we have potential that most clubs in our division can never hope to emulate. Finally, at long last we are at the top of the League and looking like the best bet for promotion. This season I am having more fun than I have ever known in all my 50 odd years of watching football. I don't blame anyone for not wanting to tempt fate but where we are now is where we have been wanting to be for years. The football being played at the Lane under Chris Wilder is way better than anything I have had the chance to enjoy before.

It's brilliant being a Blade. Enjoy!

'kin Clappers eh! Bloody board is infested wi em. Bringing the neighbourhood down. Does anybody participating in this thread remember what the original "discussion" was about, because It seems to have meandered down WWF alley via TD cul de sac and is now sitting on a house front step looking lost.

Hi Dane, you may think you contradict the OP but surely the fact that such money was spent and made no difference under the wrong manager all last season, proves the point that it's the manager and the management of the players that is most important. Also Clough spent a mini-fortune yet Wilder has reduced the wage bill and only paid nominal fees out relatively.

Having said all that I take Lydon's point that this season is far from over and it's early days. However the spirit in the club is palpable.

I think it shows that money and good management are both big factors. If we'd not been able to have Sharp in the team, would we be top? If we had a wage bill which was average for the league, would we be top? Sharp was still effective even under the "wrong manager" last season. It was the freebies and loans that didn't do the business. I agree though about Clough's recruitment. Money is necessary but it needs to be used wisely.

Why do you keep bumping this thread WWF? For a 70 year old bloke you appear to have an almost childlike need to be the centre of attention. Let it die it's natural death, I'm sure you'll think of another me me me thread within the next 3 minutes.

Well said Ted, I'll take that too !

WHF wasn't chased off here, like you he put people on ignore almost everyone in fact. There is a difference between blindly agreeing and supporting every action taken and supporting The Blades.

WHF was quite frankly wrong in almost every way last season- even Mcabe agreed as he gave WHF hero Adkins his cards.

Wasn't going to add to the fire but read you had Sussed out Clough in particular and though "that just isn't true".

Not that it matters in the grand scheme of things but for "the record" you came back saying you were wrong and we shouldn't have sacked Clough and got Adkins in. You did a 180 on the whole thing.

For the record if you stopped being "right" all the time and were perhaps a little less upright then perhaps you wouldn't attract people to your posts like flies around poo. But for the wrong reasons.

What I will say is what I did previously, go you for being so positive but in your fervour to be happy don't think you will drag everyone with you. Everyone on here is a fan, but everyone has different versions of the truth and while it can be annoying that is how it should be.

We are a good open church , let's keep it that way . No need for anyone to take there bat and ball home , if not agreed with . We all come from different angles with our stance on all things Blades . Who is right and who is wrong , fuck knows , it can change by the minute. All want same goal at the end of the day .

Woody also remember it's not all you , likes don't count for nothing , and we have a mixed bag of ages on here which is positive not negative .

Some great posters on here who are a shit load more knowledgable than me , who even a top when taking the piss .

Think and read I should coco.

Bladesway the point about Clough was that I criticised him consistently and didn't 'clap him' once I realised how poor his signings were - something you disputed and you argued with me long enough and about Clough's quality as a manager. If I said we should have kept Clough once we all realised Adkins was so poor then that's all square with what I said above anyway and the whole desire for continuity.

Anyway, Ted's right, this thread has become all about me and it's not intended but I just can't let comments like yours pass without my view I'm afraid.

I agree with your third paragraph but I never think I am right all the time, opinion is sometimes fluid and certainly can be changed by listening to others, one of the main pluses of a forum.

First season when he kept us up and got us to a cup semi? Brought Brayford in and galvanised a doomed team? Thoughts?

Wilder has shown us all that it's not about money and funds to spend. It's about leadership and knowing the game. knowing a player. It's about the manager, the man. Every football club is all about the football manager. Some of these top clubs have to get their manager right or they are lost, regardless of their cheque books. Forever has it been so.

Chris Wilder is the right man in the right place at the right time and he has enough bottle to say he thinks the Board "have been brilliant".

WE ARE UNITED, at long last. I wondered whether I would ever see it again. Harris did it, Basett did it. UNITED again, feels great.

Go on Chris, become a legend, make me a happy Blade in my 70th year. When Leicester did what they did, the lovely stories were about all their old fans. I'm one, just do it Chris, I've always loved you, ever since you and I sat in the stand at Wrexham away in some sort of cup game all those years ago. You were injured but you were there, just like us with your mates, all True Blades', as they say.

Just do it.
Totally agree. He is showing just what crocks of shit the Nigel's were.

Not sure which Lord I should listen to this of all weeks Bos.;)

It's not about the money is it, but it's a bit odd us spouting about it after paying off 4 managers until we hit the jackpot buy getting wilder and then backing him with a shitload of cash (at this level) as we also backed the previous managers, other teams in this league can accuse us of buying our way out should we manage it this season.... they'd have case, wouldn't they.?

Totally agree. Although we do get double, treble and even quadruple the attendances of our rivals
So logically we should have the biggest budget in league, excluding the teams relegated from the CC.

This is new territory for Wilder.....he's never had the luxury of chasing decent well rated transfer targets at any point in his 15 year material career.

Wilder will have cut the wage bill substantially by the financial year end . That's guaranteed unless we go really mad this JTW and we've no need to do that.

Do the sums Tezza - squad reduced by more than 10 players I'd say and Che sold for a big fee to add to cash flow. Big savings compared to last 3 seasons.
