Another thing this deal could suggest - have we learned our lesson from Morsy last year?

He had 6 months left on his contract and we didn't want to know, with talk of us choosing to wait until his contract expired.

Carruthers has 6 months left and we're apparently paying a decent fee for him.

Maybe it's also a very early answer to any questions about our ambition and intentions in this transfer window.

This signing would pretty much optimise everything that wilder is trying doing and trying to create.

Carruthers is a proper work horse and ankle biter, his fitness levels are immense and to be honest he remind me of a young Gerrard. He hassles and chases, no nonsense tackling and wins the ball, he is always looking for a killer pass and he is box to box.

A player like this in the same starting xi as Duffy could well be brutal....

If this news breaks tomorrow I will be overjoyed because he is a player who can make things happen...And dare I say it? He can make the step up as well should we achieve our aim.

As much as I love Coutts and Fleck I think we could do with a goalscoring option too. At the moment we seem to be scoring goals from sources we never actually knew existed (ala Freeman) so it's fine, I'm just thinking longer term

Could be a good one if Wilder can get the best from him.

I think given the fact that Sky, the Star and various other journos are reporting it as SUFC makes it very likely that it's us.

Great signing this one if it comes off. Strikes me as a similar move to Fleck. Gone a little stale at his current club, needs a change of scenery to reinvigorate his form.
