Ok so it gets to the last game of the season, Southampton away and we are in the current situation...

A win will send us into the 6th play off spot, but will ensure Wendy's survive.

A draw will leave it all to chance, nothing certain at either end. We'd be waiting on other results but that could mean both we get in the play offs and the Piggies go down.

A loss will rule us out of a play off place, but will guarantee that the Pigs will be playing third tier football next year.

Which would you prefer to see happen?

We try and win... sod what happens to the piggies.

I want what's best for United more than what's worst for them.

If we win, we will be playing different league football anyways

I'd say a draw for me. While we have been playing brilliantly at the moment, I wouldn't want to go up too early. If we draw and it was down to chance and we ended up in the play offs I'd be happy with that. Just don't fancy being in the same situation as possibly Derby have been. A lot of things will be changing behind the scenes during the close season and if we go up via the play offs we will have less time to prepare for the season ahead.

I like how you worded that, Ive gone for a loss.

And before i publicly flogged my reasoning is simple i dont think that we as a team are ready for another season in the top flight. I wouldnt refuse it if we acheived it but lets face it its hardly been the perfect season, and only recently have the team started to play as such.

As you said linz we go out and try to win, hoever if we dont it isnt the end of the world for the reasons i have given above. If we loose and the piggies go back to where they belong that in itself is just an added bonus

I don't see how it is possible to go up too early.

Get ourselves up, bit more money in bank, higher profile, so what if we come down again, there is just as much chance of that if we stay in this league for another season and go up.

would you really sacrifice the good name of the club for money?

I just feel that at the moment if we were to progress we may end up doing a derby/sunderland and be a laughing stock

That's kind of what I feel too. I would rather have next season where we storm the Championship rather than sneak it at the last minute.

The thing is, who is to say we will be in any better predicament next year?

Its a very valid point robbie, but that is all dependant on who is the manager etc.

Youre right in that we may do very well next season in either championship or the premier league if blackwell is in charge, lets face it he is the only person thats been capable of getting the team playing as such.

But if Blackwell isnt in charge next season then the "New" manager has got to install his own stamp on a team that has only just been "Stamped".

There are far too many variables at this moment in time to say exactly how well we will do noext season, but i for one would rather us have another season in the championship. That way if blackwell is still manager then he will have a full season with HIS team. That way we will know if the team are capable of playing in the top flight

IMO

This was always going to be a one sided poll, i mean can any 'Blade' justify not wanting us to go up, yet want Wednesday to go down? I mean ofcourse we'd want both, but in the situation given, i certainly know what I and possibly the average 25k Blades would pick.

We should want to win. If it was a nothing match for us then I would still want us to win, even if it helped Wendy. Still, if that was the situation, I wouldn't be too upset if a Blades loss sent Wendy down.
We should want United to win every game, regardless of what it does for anybody else. Still, at Southampton I just might be too under the influence of lager-pop to care what happens.

A win for me. Could not care less. Hopefully Southampton will be clear off wednesday and could not care less

A win without doubt for me. All that matters is to me is United, not Wednesday.
If they go down then great and if they stay up then we'll look forward to taking 6 points off them next season.

ill take a win even if it means us not getting in the playoffs.
as you say i think it would be a rush to the prem, but on the other hand a day out at wembley would be good, and on my third hand, from past experiences we always fail at the final hurdle!

i wil take a win!!

is it only me that feels we would be fine in the premiership? we have a better squad than last season and we would add another 4-5 to that of blackwell's choosing as he already knows the squad just about by now and he would have the passion installed in the players for the premiership to fight 90 mins week in week out for every point

Well me and MAQ are on that side of the fence, through caution that is. I would love us to go up in my heart, but realistically I see us fairing better if we have another season in the Championship.

I disagree

I think we would be more prepared. Surely after the season we have had the lads to finish in the play offs would be a big achievement and one give them and fans plenty of confidence and two they will have momentum. I know it is a tougher league but we do have expericence and the knowledge of already going down and not wanting to go through that again.

I understand the trepidation were we to get there before we 'could do justice', but nothing ventured, nothing gained. We can't just say "Well, it'll happen soon."

Scabs and Weeds spring to mind.

Grasp the nettle!
