Keith Edwards on RS - Time for change?

I like Keith. I just don't like Keith being stupidly over confident and tempting the commentator's curse.
 



I don't mind him, he talks bollocks alot of the time but, he did leave us for LEEDS! so he should be stripped, whipped, doused with salt and burnt.
Unfortunately that would be illegal, so RS is possibley the best place for him.

I don't know about you about but I have found Kevin Gage's columns in The Star to be very decent reads? Maybe he is worth a regular punt?

I think Keith is refreshingly honest and passionate about our club. He tells it as he sees it. You don't have to agree but bear in mind this is not a local lad, he's from the North East yet he's made Sheffield his home and Sheffield United his club - for years now.

He had the bollocks to call out Adkins when many of you on here were still defending him! Same with George Long. The guy knows what he's talking about and if it doesn't sit comfortably then that's maybe your problem not his?

Supporting Sheffield United isn't like fanatical Islamist. You are allowed to be critical if you think it's justified and you can even sketch images of the prophet Wildah and shout " Wildah Akbar" if you want!

Kevin Gage is good at his articles but no match for Keith on commentaries.

On the Radio Sheffield phone in tonight a Rotherham fan rang up saying he was driving home and listened to the 1st half commentary of our match.

He wanted to say as a neutral how he enjoyed Edwards commentary style.
Said it's good to hear someone so honest, telling it how it is instead of watering it down.
The Millers fan said he heard Edwards saying that defenders like EEL should stay in defence and not be asked to play on the right wing or in advanced positions. Said something about defenders being hopeless in attack, then when he got home he saw that the same defender had been pushed up front for the last 5 minutes and scored.

The Radio Sheffield presenter agreed that Edwards was on top form with his commentary last night.
He also mentioned that Edwards has a sense of humour and was well aware that he advised EEL should stay back in defence and leave it to the forwards to score. He often drops a bollock with his predictions ha.

Great post and I agree.
Edwards isn't afraid to criticise United and it can get him into hot water.
The only time he tempered his criticism was when Micky Adams was manager because he was a friend and Edwards wanted him to do well.

Conversely I've heard John Pearson doing commentaries for SW matches and it's almost like he's a member of a cult as he's rarely critical of the players or the manager.
 
Agree with that Sheffsteel when Edwards sticks to the football he's good, it's just his comedy that let's him down.
On Pearson, god knows why I was listening to it but I remember a wednesday match where they scored and all you could hear from him was, the only way to describe it is 'monkey noises' for about 15 seconds. Now I know he's a fan but FFS he's getting paid to do a job too...
 
Cant see where you have a problem with KIng Keith as I always find his comments interesting and humorous at times - in contrast have you listened to the pig John Pearson who screams when they score - how embarrassing is that ??

Firstly I take offence to the "many of you" comment because exposed was exposed as shite early doors, I called him out and I was glad when somebody finally had the bollocks to get shut.

In regards to Edwards stating how shit players actually are.....He's had it easy has he not? George Long made several bloopers and I remember Edwards actually defending Long despite a couple of these despite fans concerns, after a couple more and seeing that Long doesn't talk, he then went on the state the obvious.

It is more than easy to be a pundit and call out shit players in a shit team of players.......He tarred everybody with the same brush, nobody was any good but we could all see that.

But this is the same Edwards who touted Murphy as Shite....Stating that he didn't know how to beat a man and stuff and well and truly getting on his back and the same Edwards who didn't think Scougall to be good enough......How both of those have come back to bite him on the arse since.

Edwards is a hero of mine and I do respect what he has done, he has stayed loyal to the club post career and he has been a pundit for a long time however this doesn't mean that I have to worship everything that he does, this is my own personal opinion....one that I am welcome to and one that many others seem to agree with....I'm not trying to "hound him out" just stating the obvious.

As fans we don't want to here how Keith used to do it back in his day because truth be said, the game as a whole is completely different these days and where as back then you had physical lumps at the back who technically weren't the best and would kick chunks out of you.....Well we now have athletes at the back who are capable of picking the ball up and running 50-60 yards up the pitch.

And stating the obvious......You have to be solid at the back and you have to hit the target, we all know that.......But then when Billy or whoever doesn't hit the target we have to miss 2 minutes of commentary hearing how Edwards would have hit the target.......

As fans go I think the majority of our fans are quite clued up on the basics of football and how to achieve success.......We are all more than capable of stating the obvious. But it would be extremely refreshing to have some somebody positive on the commentary for a bit because truth be said it is contagious and an upbeat commentator who has good technical knowledge and says it how it is without throwing the book at everybody, well he would rub off on the fans.

Nowt personal against Keith at all...

Time for a change or keep status quo . Which one ..

Great times at BDTBL so not much to be critical on , thank fuck , but just things to pass constructive minor issue comment on .

His autobiography was one of the worst books I've read, boring as fuck. His commentary is second to none. Tells it like it is, no poncey flowered up bullshit, no excuses for underperforming players, just an open and honest opinion that's usually bang on the money. I know some of you can't take criticism of the little darlings, and highlighting that we're shit on occasion is tantamount to blasphemy but that's a bigger reflection on you than him.

Pearson is a grade A cunt, if you want that kind of plastic biased bullshit as opposed to Mr Edwards well get a fucking grip. We're Blades, known for our honesty and our no nonsense approach so stop whining about Keith Edwards, we're a bit better than that, or at least we used to be :rolleyes:

Commentator: 'So what is so good about Coutts?'

Listener: 'It's his balls...':D
 



I get bored of Keith's "in my day" rants that can last minutes when you want to hear what's happening with the game.
I never heard Gage but heard Holdsworth a couple of times and preferred him to Keith.
I have to turn the radio off now if the Staton/Pearson Wendy w@nkfest is on. You'd have thought they were playing like Real Madrid until the cousin ferkers with the Barnsley accents phone in to say how sh1te they were!

I think commentators should never say anything positive because it tempts fate, and never say anything negative because it'll jinx us. Best just avoid any appraisal of the match completely because superstitions definitely aren't meaningless.
 
my relationship with Keith Edwards is similar to the relationship between my grandparents.

He's been around since I can remember. I blank out almost everything he says these days. When I do listen to him I find everything he says irritating. I wonder if I would have been happier if radio Sheffield had hired a different analyser, but also can no longer live without him and find his presence strangely comforting.

He's mellowed over the years. During the Warnock era I think he really he saw himself as "super-pundit" who dished out golden nuggets of truth. In reality he was just constantly bitching about everything.

Now he sort of plays 'the affable oaf'.

Remember in the early Warnock years Edwards had a column in the programme and once slagged off Warnocks tactics and the column disappeared.
