Blade..born in the pig end of town
Makes two of us mate!
A Sheffield 6 lad all my life born into a family full of armchair non attending piglets or just not football fans. There are plenty of us about. Both my next door neighbours are Blades. Luckily I'm up the hill from the sty and the stench rarely wafts towards us

My nephew (son of my brother) was born in London on January 1, 2000, thus sharing a birthday with his grandfather and Tony Currie. Since then he has lived in Bordeaux and in Costa Rica, courtesy of his dad's work, and is now back in London. Never lived in Sheffield, therefore, but he was on the away end with his dad (and uncle!) at Charlton on Saturday, cheering the Blades on and was as gutted as the rest of us when that injustice of an equaliser went in at the death.
Also Danny Wilson's birthday.

Filey born and bred, blade since I can remember. After my dad and the rest of the family moved over from Sheffield in the late 70s.
Followed his love for the blades and wouldn't have it any other way. UTB!

Not quite that close fortunately..but school was interesting :)

Born in Leicester. My dad went to university in Sheffield in the 60s, and while there took my uncle to United games. When my dad left uni and reverted back to watching Villa (all 4 of my grandparents were also Villa fans, as is my brother), my uncle travelled up and down the country to watching us. He and my dad took me and my brother to see United vs Villa in the 1990-91 season (2-1: Bryson, Deane) and I was hooked from that point.

To be honest, I've been very pleasantly surprised in recent years by the number of non-natives who have taken us to their hearts and they especially have my respect and admiration. You actually consciously chose this difficult way of life, for me it was bestowed.

About 8 years ago, the season ticket holder behind me was a Northern Irishman, and when we weren't playing well (which was most of the time) he used to go full 'Ian Paisley'. Quite scary actually. There's a Chinese couple who sit in front of me and when we scored past Bury last week they went ballistic as did all of us. They're no tourists that's for sure, Spent the day with two lads from Suffolk when we played Man Utd last season and also met the fine gentleman that is itsinyerblood last season at the Millwall match. I'm currently working on converting my scouse mate at work, he already hates Wednesday so that's a start.

Anyway whoever you are and wherever you came from, welcome. I'd also be very interested to know what drew you here.

That's not around row SS in the middle of the Kop, is it?

I kid you not.....he was actually a Reverend!

It bloody is unless there's two of them. Noel. Mad as a box of frogs; massive Glentoran fan. I used to go to games with him back in the early Warnock era.

Re the original post, I know several in the south, notably a Southampton blade and a fellow Bucks blade who have both done hundreds of games but have never lived near Sheff. Southampton blade has done most of the 92 grounds with utd. These and several other southerners I've known for decades turn out for a decent number of games per year when they can but are not on S24SU as far as I know. I don't count as I was raised in South Yorks but have not lived north of Watford for 35 years but have still done hundreds of utd games in this time with these guys.
There are more southern, western and london blades around than many realise but the various factions have always tended to do their own thing which is fair enough but has always meant arranging lifts and shared transport has often been tricky and probably limits the number of games people feel they can afford to attend.

That was the day the female streaker ran on as Deano bore down on goal a few minutes in, and she hugged Tony Agana on the bench...having ruined our attack!!

Born in Stourbridge , grew up in Kingswinford (6 miles from Wolves, 4 miles from Dudley...) glory hunting Liverpool fan as a kid as my dad hated football and never took me to any local team as he preferred motorbikes so I raced MotoX as a lad.

I left home as soon as I could at 17 to work on construction sites around UK and I came to Sheffield with a mate who was working on same sites, he was of the other persuasion and I had a choice to go with him, a couple of his mates plus his Mrs or go with some other mates who drank in pub till 2.55 and then a quick walk to only miss first 5 mins.

24 years later proud to say I'm a Blade and so are all my kids.

Delighted to report that my lad, born in Nottingham and lived here ever since, is a Blade. Especially given the attempted influencing of free tickets from Forest and Notts County given away at school, his peers and football team mates allegiances etc. Oh, and not even put off by his first game - Wigan at the Lane 06/7 Season. Looking back, probably not the best decision I've made in terms of first game to take your lad to, but there's blind optimism for you. To put the tin lid on that day the train back to Nottingham was cancelled so had to wait in the rain for a coach back, took 2 and a half hours. Top day out. Still, he's kept with the Blades, never faltered. Proud.

You're not from T'Cross are you, Esa lad?:)

Early years in Grenoside myself, one of 3 blades in my year at school (another one who's dad had actually played for Wednesday!). Then off to Oxford and Northumberland before returning to Sheffield. I was born a Blade (3rd generation) and have never waivered. I well remember crying in school in Oxford the day Tony Currie was sold and my teacher not really understanding why I was so upset, heathen that she was!

Certainly sounds like it might have been. Wasn't very keen on Celtic as I recall!

"Although his passion and knack of remembering songs has got him in trouble at nursery, asked recently by his teacher why he was being mischievous he replied "I'm Sheffield United, we do what we want" - the wife wasn't as impressed as I was!"

Have 20 likes, one for you and 19 for your lad!

me 3 but they're plenty more! Grenoside now at Wadsley bridge. Or is it South Barnsley??

Sadly not....though I am familiar with some of the more lugubrious characters on said estate...

I was born in China and lived there when I was a kid. Moved to Sheffield a few years later.

I didn't really get into football until I was about 9 years old. I asked my parents if they'd take me to a Man Utd match and they took me to a Blades game instead, because it was quid a kid.

Had a season ticket for the next eleven years.

Always makes me smile when people say things like 3000 fans travelled down from Sheff to the Charlton match. It wouldn't surprise me if 15 to 20% of these didn't travel down from Sheff from what I saw and read but live elsewhere.

First ever game was at the sty. Don Megsons testimonial. Second also. Pigs 1 Man U 3. Went with my best mate and his dad,a wonderful Irishman from Wexford who favoured the pork.. Then went to the Lane and experienced everything I didn't get at Pigsbro.
Blades aren't born. They're called and answer the calling. That's how it is.

Was talking to a Chinese student sat in the Bramall Lane corner stand at the Shrewsbury home match.

He told me that football is getting really big in China and he supports his home town team Beijing Guoan
Their league has just finished and his team finished 5th in the top division.

Said he's been to a few of our matches this season and finds them entertaining.
Surprisingly said the standard he's seen from us is probably slightly higher than the top teams in the China top division. Said his favourite player for us is Mark Duffy, really rates him.

He also mentioned the links between the Chinese community and SUFC asking me if I'd heard of the Chengdu Blades. Told him of course and I already knew they'd gone bust.

I was born in Scarborough, but my dad is Sheffield born, so I got his team.

#1 daughter was born in Slough, but we moved to between Nottingham and Loughborough when she was 6 months old - she stuck with the Blades, through thin and thin

#2 is a Forest fan (nominally) but doesn't really care (I'm fine with them supporting a local team - so Forest, Notts, Leicester or Derby) or my team. No other options are available

#3 is a nominal Blade, and again doesn't really care

I'm from Clacton on Sea, born in Colchester but moved to Sheffield in about 1980. Wasn't bothered about football as a kid, my Dad's a Bantam (from Shipley) and my parents used to go to Valley Parade but I never went. (As an aside, they were meant to be at the BCFC-Lincoln game there in 1985, but couldn't attend for some reason for which I'm forever thankful!)
To my eternal shame, I paid lip service to the South Barnsley lot in my early teens despite not giving a toss about footy, as my best mate was one. I've never worn their colours or set foot in their death trap though. Please don't judge.
When I was 17 my mates took me to the lane, don't actually remember who we played but it was toward the end of the Bassett era. That was it. Blades in my blood and under my skin. Twenty-odd years of pain and disappointment later still sucking it up. I don't see those lads these days, but if our paths ever cross I must remember to thank them. The bastards.

Born in Lichfield to a father from Folkestone and a Mother from Sheffield. Moved to Sheffield when I was 6 and initially taken to both grounds. Only one choice for me, and my brother, and I have paid for it over the years! Spent 34 years working in the south of England, but maintained my loyalty and been a regular attendee since the mid-60s. Met Blades resident in Devon, Somerset, Berkshire and Surrey. Just retired and moved back to Sheffield, ostensibly so my wife could be near her parents but the real draw was a season ticket for the first time! My son was born down south and has been suitably brainwashed. He now lives in London but, happily, remains a loyal Blade.
