As for the top paragraph: the paedos need punishing. There's no two ways about that. But prevention is cheaper than the cure, and if by understanding how this comes about and reducing stigma about talking about it (at least in therapy/with the GP if nothing else) then a lot less kids are likely to be harmed. I don't want any more victims of this shit but I feel as though I have the foresight to consider how we can actually reduce the numbers of kids getting harmed. Lynching people after they've done it prevents fuck all.

Totally agree. I read a book called vigilantes in the summer all about people taking the law into their own hands. It was really worrying about what lengths people go to
to get revenge.

This whole story about poor woodward and white etc is unbelievable awful for the no doubt many other players involved. I would like to think that measures are much tighter now than they ever have been, and working in a school I realise that safeguarding is a massive issue. A very local headmaster recently was sent down for using a spy pen to watch kids (and staff) in the toilet recently near where I live. I almost sent my kids to that school and have several mates whos kids are there. Such awful stuff.
 



Meanwhile British photographer David Hamilton has died in Paris. He made his reputation by photographing very young girls in erotic poses; photos which would probably get this site closed down if they were posted on here. He had also recently been accused of rape by some of the women he used as models when they were girls. It looks as if he has killed himself in order to avoid facing the music, and yet, once upon a time, these very pictures made him rich and famous.

This illustrates that any group of youngsters is at risk when proper supervision is not provided. It's not just young footballers, or young models. I've no doubt that similar scandals are waiting to be revealed in the cinema, theatre, all sports, politics and other activities as well in which adults have been in positions of authority and power over children and teenagers.

It also tells us that we live in very different times to when, not so long ago, people were paying big money for photographs of little girls in their knickers and calling them works of art.
 
Just read on Twitter that both Gary Speed and Alan Davies were coached by Bennell and both committed suicide. Could be a coincidence but makes you think.

Taken from the Telegraph but you do still wonder about it:

"Mrs Speed’s lawyers, Harbottle & Lewis, denied that his death was linked to Bennell.
In a statement given to The Sunday Times Magazine, they said: “Whilst Gary Speed knew Mr Bennell through football connections, he was not a 'victim' and thus played no part in the investigation. The Speed family have been assured that the police investigation at the time was exceptionally thorough and there is no legitimate reason to link Mr Bennell to Mr Speed."

Look at the link to a 2011 story in my previous post.
Told that he would now be left in peace, Bennell replied: “There's no peace now. How can you have peace when you've killed somebody?"

He added: "To me, killing someone is what you've done to them, because their life's never the same again ..."

That's about as close to a confession as you're going to get. To me it reads as though he considered that he'd killed Gary Speed.

You have to wonder about the throughness of that investigation, seeing as it didn't turn up any of the recent allegations, despite at least 2 of Andy Woodward's managers knowing what had happened.

Somewhere in Bert's old record collection is the album by Eric Clapton's Blind Faith. The original sleeve picture would be illegal now. It wasn't then.

Perhaps the family just don't want anymore press attention and feel his children etc have suffered enough. I wouldn't blame them for that, they have suffered enough. Could be nothing, but strange councidence if that's the case.

I would have a huge campaign to try and get these people to come forward and give them help rather than wait for them to commit a crime against children and then deal with them. A prevention is better than cure approach.

I just believe there's a cure for Sexual Orientation.

To me the needs of the the young, helpless and vulnerable far outweigh any needs of these sexual predators.

Scorpions' Virgin Killer also had an album sleeve that has subsequently been banned.

People often wonder why the victims don't come out earlier but look at the initial reaction from some one here when the Saville stuff was coming to light. I can't imagine how tough it must be revealing something like that happened to you then have people who have no idea who you are say you're a liar or just after money

Very categorical. I'm assuming this is your opinion only as not all the "experts" agree? or have you done your own research and this is your conclusion? In which case I'd love to read it.

Sexual orientation is related to gender, not age. The fact that bennell assaulted young boys is because he's a criminal, not because he has gay tendencies.

Sexual orientation is related to the orientation of one's sexuality, in whichever direction that might be.

What about people who are attracted to kids but don't do anything? Are they criminals too? If not, what would you class them as?

Acting on Paedophlia urges/desires means you're breaking the law, this is what makes him/them criminals.
