Chris Wilder - What a man!

Had a few days to reflect now and after being at the Chesterfield game and I'm still buzzing. I must have watched the highlights of the goals over 10 times, they were all fantastic in their different ways.

Can't quite believe what a transformation Chris has pulled off in such a short time frame. I now can't wait until the next game every week because I can't see us dropping points at the moment. Contrast with last season where a lot of us felt going to watch the Blades was the worst part of the Saturday.

You can see it in games if we concede, no one is worried, because we have shown what spirit is in the side and that we will stick to our guns until we eventually pummel them. It has to be said as well, considering this style for some reason gets labelled as 'direct' its actually some of the best passing football I remember us playing. The difference is we actually pass it forwards well not just round the back.

But yes, im feeling fantastic about our chances to finally get up this year. I've noticed nearly every opposition manager in the last few games saying things along the line of best team in the league and best sheff utd team ive seen down in this league. This just makes it so much better coming from outside.

Finally, sorry to make this a Deadbat lengthed post, but we have goals absolutely all over the team now. Freeman has 3, midfield chipping in, all the strikers scoring barring done dodgy form and lavery still to get a proper chance.
Similar to bristol city in that they outscored teams and had goals from everywhere!

Lets get a big crowd on Saturday.

Totally agree.

Being a Blade we always tend to be a bit pessimistic.
I keep trying to down play our recent success.
I keep saying "yes Shrewsbury are near the bottom but they are fighting for their lives and it will be really tough"
Or "Away to Chesterfield is a local derby, form goes out of the window and its a real banana skin"
Or "we can't keep playing well and are due a bad performance sooner or later"

However Wilder keeps making me eat my words.
Our attitude and approach to games has been fantastic.
What Wilder has done seems like a miracle, we currently look unbeatable at league 1 level.
 
But it is difficult to be an optimist after all these years. On Sunday at half-time I was convinced that we would lose, and was not convinced that the tactics and spirit in the second half would be right. I am trying, Mr Wilder, honest, but forgive us if we still need time to break the habits of a lifetime. I still feel that the day I am optimistic at half-time is the day it will all go wrong again. It all goes back to the day that Hodgy broke his thumb against Bolton (ask your dad/grandad).
 
Half a decade of dross and disappointment digs deep into the psyche.

I also struggle to believe, but I'm starting to come round. I'm not one to storm ahead and say 'this is our year', but I do acknowledge that if we perform as we have been, we can get a result against any side in this division. The players seem to believe in themselves and there's a great sense of team spirit and camaraderie knocking around.

Cautious optimism is the phrase to use.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but you need to chill out a bit! :cool:

We have 30 more games and it's too much to expect that we'll continue as we have for the last 12, there will be the odd letdown here and there. So as Wilder has said, don't get too high when we win, don't get too low when we lose. But it's nice to not be dreading match days!

Of course, if we don't beat Shrewsbury by 10, it's car park time!
 
Have said in another thread, if and when this team loses a game, unlike last year, we'll shrug it off, and more than likely go on another run.
 
The big difference for me is that during last season, I was actually dreading or not bothered about going to games. Joking that I'd had a great day apart from the match itself. Was seriously considering not getting a season ticket for this season too.

Now, I can't wait for the next game, genuinely looking forward to the next one, and all the other knock on things like checking the tables, top scorers and what the other teams are doing.

In a nutshell that's it fella, what Wilder has done, by quietly going about his business, convincing players I wasn't that familiar with to sign with us, the result being that we now have a team that can play yet graft, they can express themselves yet dig in when called upon. CW's done a wonderful job, and shown proper management experience in not only creating a team we all feel proud of, but of making the present and future exactly what we Blades once only dreamed about. I'm not getting carried away, really I'm not, but I think many of us, previously cynical and not prone to grade-a bullshit, respond to what's happening at United in ways we never imagined would happen. It wouldn't surprise me if one of Chris' opening gambits when meeting a new recruit is to ask if they want to come to a club that's going places?
 
You cant go on a run like we have and be anything other than a good side, which injuries/suspensions aside means when we lose we will definitely come back again, and again, whats the saying about ability being permanent, form being temporary, understand people being slightly worried about being overly confident but stop worrying, I'm not not predicting for certain what the rest of the season will bring but I am confident, and increasingly so, that we will be successful. if you were feeling good about us 3/4 weeks ago what do you feel like now? none of us are stupid enough to go overboard at the moment but we have every reason to feel confident about the near future.
 
On our run of being undefeated we've had JOC, Basham, Fleck, Done and Clarke all out injured or suspended whilst having players like Lavery gaining fitness week by week. Now I know Clarke never started with us on the run but he will turn out to be an handy addition to the squad.

What i'm trying to say is we have players who can come into the side and still do a good job when we get injuries and suspensions, and from what i've seen up to now, I think this squad of players is better than the squad we had when we first came down to this league. Some individuals from that squad were obviously better but as a squad, for me anyway, this seasons is better.

For me, apart from signings, the best thing he has done is change the mentality and attitude. I don't expect us to win every game, I know we'll have dips and I'm not even getting carried away thinking we'll get promoted because as someone rightly says, there's another 30 games to go and a lot can happen. It looks at the moment as though it will be a 4 horse race between ourselves, Scunny, Bradford and Bolton (of course that can change), but what I'm confident of now is, that it won't be from a lack of effort, attitude or hard work from the management and players.

And that's ok with me.

Agree with all of that, and one thing that we must be open to is a dark horse appearing out of nowhere, such as Barnsley's great run. I'm not taking anything for granted, and just about anything could happen to derail us, but no doubt Wilder is aware of this and has plans to address any problems that come his way. Of course there's no accounting for the loss of a goalscorer like Sharp through injury, and should that happen then it will be interesting to see exactly how Wilder and the club respond. What I do feel though is that the single most important factor in our present and future is the competency of our management team, something I'm increasingly confident about.
Whatever the next few months bring it will be nothing short of twists and turns and, I hope, good news when it matters.
 
Thank the Lord we got him. To be honest, although he had a decent record, I just couldn't get excited about him becoming our manager.
This was after hoping and praying we would secure Adkins services (although I blame my Scunny loving mate)
What Mr Wilder has done in such a short period of time is nothing short of a miracle, make no mistake, we were a completely broken squad.
Loving it!!!!

It felt weird on Sunday. I woke up and just didnt have any pre match nerves. I enjoyed mi brekkie, got ready, went to the game, watched us win handsomely, then came home to enjoy the rest of my day. At no stage even when we went behind, did i doubt that we wouldnt win. Just total confidence in the lads. Normally im the 'if it can go wrong it will with Utd' type of fan cos ive been kicked on the danglies so many times over the years with them. It just felt very odd...this confidence thing and tbh it felt good. Long may it remain as i could get used to it.
 
Same here. A mate of mine was in the Chezzy end and just texted "lol" after their goal. I sent back "3-1 Blades" and I wasn't too far off. Like you said I just *knew* we were gonna take it. Chezzy were sitting far too deep and giving us acres of space. Goals were bound to happen.
 
I just love seeing some of our players expressing themselves and clearly enjoying the football they are playing. Last year it looked like it was a chore to some of them ,even when we won. They couldn't enjoy it or express themselves and show what they can do. Just watch the 2 wing backs ,they have so much energy and enthusiasm ,constantly have a smile on their faces ,Lafferty and Freeman are only 2 examples of this , it is a constant throughout the team.
The days of Neill Collins handing out bollockings after another cheap goal ,and the right winger not wanting to play in front of the dug out seem a distant memory.

When Chesterfield scored I said to my mate 'too early, we've come back from one behind loads of times this season, Chessy will shit themselves and sit deep'. I would have still expected a draw at least if we've gone two down. Although tbh, I wasn't that worried when Wolves scored their first two in the POF. I was just thinking 'providing we can hang on til half time we can get back into this' as they scored the third.

I was the same.
I knew at 2-0 down we still had a great chance and expected a come back.

Early in the 2nd half think Ward hit the post
Then we had a penalty....I was saying this is the start of our come back.
When we missed it deflated the fans and we lost belief.
Also it didn't help that we went down to 10 men when Ward was sent off.

I may have misunderstood but are you confusing Wolves with the Burnley game?
