Isn't it right that there are specific rules regarding that stupid league trophy so that a team can't make more than 5 changes from the last match?

But....

Is this literally the last game (i.e. Leyton orient) or is it the last league game?

If it is the former, I can see us making 4 or 5 changes for tomorrow and basically play a full on second XI for the Grimsby game. I certainly hope so.

Grimsby game:
Ramsdale
Wilson Semple O'Connell
Brown Hussey
Whiteman Brooks
*Youth Player*
Lavery *Youth Player*

6 from Orient would be Lavery, Wilson, O'Connell, Brown, Hussey, Whiteman

It's a shame Reed and Chapman won't be available.

You have to play 6 first team players

I really, really hope we don't bend over backwards just to avoid a 5k fine. It would be rather small time and pathetic for a club of our size. But more significantly we'd be risking injuries we could do without ahead of a key period of games.

If we pay some of those players 5k+ p/w, then it's certainly worth paying 5k not to jeopardise our promotion prospects now we've finally sorted ourselves out.

Do they have to be on the pitch for a set length? Didn't Megson once take three off in the first five minutes for the pigs.

Then we should do it.
I guess it depends on whether the rule is "6 first team players" or "6 players that started the last game". If it's the latter then I think we'll make a number of changes tomorrow, which means we can make even more changes for the pointless match against Grimsby.

They seem to make the rules up as they go along in this competition so I've no idea what it is!

If the League grumble about us disrespecting the competition that would be highly ironic as they decided to devalue it with academy youth teams

It's ridiculous. Both us & Grimsby are out but we'll still get fined if we play a weakened team?!

Both teams ought to just stand in the middle of the pitch having a game of headers & volleys for 90 minutes.

It actually 5 and the rules state first team player is defined by the original rules of the competition but it can't find them

I reckon it'll be a certain amount of games played

"Each EFL Club shall play its full available strength in and during all Matches. The League will from time to time issue a policy as to what constitutes 'full available strength'. Any Club failing to meet this requirement will be required to pay a fine of up to £5,000. "

Not sure there's been any update on this:

"The requirement is not explicitly linked to any definition of a first team player, only in context of what is deemed to be ‘full available strength’. In terms of ‘full available strength’ the policy means –

(a) A Club must include in its starting line-up at least 5 out of the 11 players who started the Club fixture immediately preceding or following the relevant EFL Trophy; or
(b) A Club must include in its starting line-up at least 5 out of 11 players who have made the most starting appearances in League and domestic Cup competitions fixtures during that season."

"Club fixture" surely includes FA cup matches, which should give us the chance to rotate quite a bit for these two cup games, if Wilder wants to.

If the case I think many players will be rested for a further week . I am expecting 11 changes tomorrow

It will certainly be an interesting line up tomorrow.

Wilder will probably play a full strength side in both games anyway

He didn't do that even when we had a chance of staying in the crap trophy competition. He started Brooks, Brown, dropped Sharp, and the team in general strolled about with little care for the game. He might take the FA Cup somewhat seriously.

He definitely will take the fa cup more seriously. There is big money to be had especially if we draw a top Prem side in the 3rd round.
Having said that I think there will be a few changes today we will still be far too good for orient though.

Why on earth would we risk losing the prize money for winning this round and the potential income from the second round to avoid paying a small fine in a game for a cup we can't win and don't give a shit about?
