Woolfords interview, regarding CW

He doesn't seem to realise that it doesn't matter if he stuck two fingers up or a thumb up. He was clearly taking the piss out of the fans either way.
I suspect that's why CW acted as he did. Woolford was a scapegoat in my opinion. People weren't happy that we signed him up having let the more talented Murphy go. Personally I think he did try on the pitch but the clearly sarcastic thumbs up meant he had to go.

Freeman and Coutts were also transfer listed yet obviously knuckled down, showed the willingness to work hard in Wilder's system and now play every week.

Which reminds me, has Wilder actually confirmed if they've been officially taken off the list? Can't recall any of the local media specifically asking him.

28 games
1 goal (in a defeat)
Zero assists
Zero good performances

He should be ashamed of his contribution last season, and be apologising for it.

It is not true that he contributed zero assists. He had at least one. I saw it with my own eyes at Swindon. He played an absolutely superb pass through to Billy Sharp for our second goal.

He was lazy, overweight and slower than any other player I can ever remember playing for the Blades.

Given your ID, I can't help seeing a little bit of irony in this.

Fwiw, he was generally poor every time I saw him, except late in the season when he replaced Done (who was playing dreadfully at wing back) a couple of times and did improve things on those particular occasions.
A player who I have no doubt in 20 years time will be a "God, do you remember him playing for us?" "Wow, I'd forgotten all about him" name to drag up when showing how good your Blades memory is when discussing times gone by.

At least one assist. He crossed for Edgar’s header at home to Bradford.

He seems to want to tell anyone who will listen that it is someone else's fault for his shitness. No Martyn, you were bombed out by a man who knows what hes doing cos you were and are total shite. Another Adkins masterstroke.

Woolfords interview, prior to Saturdays fixture at Fleetwood,

He said regarding CW: “The new manager, for whatever reason, decided on his second day in charge that I was not going to be part of his plans so I was straight on the transfer list and never got a chance to try and turn things around there. “From that point of view it was disappointing because on the back of a bad season I’d gone away in the summer, I’d grafted. I’d worked hard and I was ready to fight for my place and prove people wrong but I never got given that chance. “Pre-season from coming back really fit after the summer you kind of go backwards a little bit as the lads are getting the games, getting the football and the proper training. “I wasn’t getting that really so it was disappointing in that respect but again it is fuel for the fire and it just makes me more hungry to do well. “I was training on my own at times, I was left behind when the lads went on pre-season tour which I can understand because he’d made it clear I was not part of his plans. “On the other side of it, as I said to him (Wilder), it was disappointing that I never got chance to show him what he had there in front of him.” Woolford is not expecting a great reception from the Sheffield away following. He said: “I’m man enough to take that on board, whatever is thrown my way I’m ready to just get on with things if anything it will spur me on even more. “One of the big things actually is I gave the fans a thumbs up on the last game of the season and for some reason some of the fans thought that I had stuck two (fingers) up. “It was a thumb, I’ve told them that, but they don’t seem to be listening. But it is what it is and it is water off a duck’s back really.”

CW as a Blades fan will have already watched Woolford play and heard comments from other Blades fans about his performances, to have made a decision about him, as soon as he got the job. I'm surprised it took CW as long as two days to make a decision that he was to be made available for transfer. Woolford was brought in by a totally useless joke of a manager pal of Woolford's and he was only just edged out by Hammond, as the most disastrous signing Adkins made. He was lazy, overweight and slower than any other player I can ever remember playing for the Blades. He looked like a Sunday League player, suffering from a hangover, after 10 pints the night before.
Regarding the thumbs up the crowd incident, Woolford was substituted in the defeat to Scunthorpe, after another of his inept performances and was jeered by the crowd. He then gestured to the fans who helped pay his extortionate wages for a season, when he had contributed nothing that game or all season. Everyone who was there knows his gesture to the crowd was a sarcastic, disrespectful response to the fans reaction to his performances, yet this useless dog shit player attempts to justify this in his interview stating "IT WAS A THUMB, I'VE TOLD THEM THAT, BUT THEY DON'T SEEM TO BE LISTENING".
Good riddance I say, to one of the worst players ever to pull on the red and white shirt, although its really gutting that we had to pay him off, to get rid.

Knowing our luck he will have the game of his life against us on Saturday - hope he plays as shit against us as he did for us last year !

Players are always motivated against former clubs but this is a bit of an extreme case with Woolford. Considering the short amount of time since he left and all the circumstances, he's going to be incredibly motivated. I think Rosler will be smart enough to start him. He might not be very good but he's likely to have a stormer. Fingers crossed he doesn't!

Thumbs up if Woolford is crap
Thumbs up...etc

Last season ..... the tea lady had more bollocks than Woolford, and contributed more to the squad !! o_O

Goodbye Martin ...... you sit alongside Dennis Longhorn in our all time hall of shame .......

Who even is Woolford? Giving himself some credit thinking he'll get stuck, not even sure I'd recognise the fella.

Well, Freeman and Coutts both got transfer listed and both worked hard and are now regulars in the first team. I think it show's just how awful Woolford was/is, that CW knew that he was a no hoper from day one.

After reading that, I actually wish we had Woolford back and had never bothered with Wilder ...

When he was subbed off against Scunny on the final day, the jeers were clear as anything - a final thank you to a player we all hoped we'd seen for the final time. At the time, I saw the thumbs up - and it was a thumbs up - but it was clear as day that it was a sarcastic response to the jeers. I don't particularly agree with jeering at any time but I respect people have the right to do it. If those people were contributing to my wages (£4k a week at least?), then I might understand it even more. I'd say he's nailed on for a goal tomorrow - but he's f*****g s***e so I'm confident he won't come close.

Even Adkins hardly selected him as a starter last season. Adkins won't admit it, but I'm sure if he could turn the clock back he wound't sign Woolford. Woolford can have no complaints at not been given a chance this summer.

I don't really think he's the sort to inspire fear at the thought that a super-motivated Martyn Woolford might be starting tomorrow.

It'd be a bit like, in seasons gone by, thinking that an ultra-motivated Marcus Williams or Nyron Nosworthy could be coming up against us.

Some players would do well to have a good look in the mirror.

How's the bench at Fleetwood Town Martyn ??

No transfers till January, So I suppose ever body is off the list until the end of December.

I think Adkins just needed a signing and went for him because he was available on a free.

Can't believe all the stick he took today.
Grown men in there 40's and 50's calling him an oxygen thief.
He wasn't the greatest signing by a long shot but calling him that is really sad.
I thought our fans where better than that.

He is far from the worst signing the club has made. The downside for him is even though he didn't play much, he never did much when he did play.

He doesn't deserve the abuse, he is just a player we should not have signed.

He's past it. He may have really looked after himself ahead of the new season but overall he's past it and we'd had a full season to see that. If he really was up to it, why didn't he show that then.

Got rid, moved on. Right decision by Wilder.

Totally agree, it was an embarrassment. It was the same fans who completely lost their heads after Fleetwood scored and began shouting at our own players. It doesn't help.

I am surprised that you are surprised it happened.
I can understand your displeasure, but it is what happens.

The ball boys were certainly slowing ball retrieval back, but the abuse one lad took from a Blade (right of the goal if standing behind it) seemed a bit extreme. Thought his composure in the circumstance (and i'd say he was 15/16) was exemplary.

There is this undercurrent that won't go away - it's just the way some people are.

You are best just leaving them to it - sadly.
