I think we are the most patient and most loyal but just fed up after six years at this crap level.

Plus a lot of people compare the noise we make with the away fans. The 800 Bristol fans would have been getting tanked up on the coaches for 4 hours. Away fans are usually louder than the home fans.

Not saying it was dog shit but our performance was not good for long spells the other night against a team who were non league a couple of seasons back. We are improving but it will take time before noise levels increase, the team is nowhere near good just yet.

It's true and until we start playing big games in The Championship or latter stages of a cup it's not going to change.

Didn't help attacking the away end 2nd half last night. That is one of the rule changes I would make let the home side chose which way they want to kick, it's supposed to be home advantage.

Agree to an extent but I think it will change if we keep this run going and mount a serious challenge. If we’re in the top 2 around xmas (and more so after the January window) then I think there will be a buzz about the place. It also wouldn’t hurt for us to dish out the odd pasting. Our goal difference always seems shit for a team supposedly going for promotion because we hardly even hammer anyone. I reckon if we can stay unbeaten in the next 4 or 5 games whilst dishing out at least one hefty scoreline (winning by 3 goals or more) then the lane will be buzzing again when the likes of MK roll in to town.

So are we the great supporters some people would have us believe HG?
In numbers, yes, I believe we are, but in creating a good atmosphere? Sadly not any more it seems.

Perhaps people have had to detach themselves a little from the games to tolerate what we’ve had to put up with in recent years? I think the atmosphere is improving but there’s still a way to go. Let’s not forget, it’s only just over a month ago (after Southend) when people thought we would be relegated saying this is the worst united side in history. So we can probably be forgiven for not getting too carried away having climbed back to 6th. As I say, if we mount a genuine top 2 challenge, I think the fans will be right on side.

Last night was the quietest it's been in a while, but I actually think the noise levels have held up relatively well given the previous years disinterested shite being served up. Not brilliant, but it could be much worse.

It's not arrogant to suggest that most away fans coming to a 32,700 capacity ground in the 3rd Division are bound to raise their game a bit, whereas for us it's a routine thing.

Of course, the atmosphere would be much better if the South Stand hadn't become so gentrified and the John Street wasn't a creche.

I agree with you on the noise as unless the Kop sings the other sides dont bother. I sit in the south stand now but rarely does anybody chant or sing - even the GCB song is only half heartedly sung which irritates me no end - I try my best but its usually a waste of time getting anyone singing unless its a really top cup match

I think it's too simplistic to describe our fans as good or bad.

Are we loyal?
Yes, fiercely.

Are we patient?
Yes and no, we're patiently waiting to get out of this divison, however at individual games I'd say as a group we get very impatient and nervy.

Are we enthusiastic?
Absolutely not.

To be fair I usually sit with my boy nearer the away fans in the Family Enclosure but on Tuesday night he couldn't come due to him not bring allowed to stay up on a school night so we sat on the kop.

Despite what other people have said, it was pretty loud.

I just think acoustics aren't that great around the bottom end of the ground.

I think it was loud at times, the biggest problem the Kop faces is that most who want to sing are in either corner, and the middle of the stand rarely keeps the song going, often 2 songs going at once due to this middle section not carrying over either of the songs! The lads at the far end (Gangway G I think) should spread themselves out across the Kop as they tend to be the ones that get most songs going!

Don't slag the fans...

On a serious note. I got slated on the "view from Peterborough" thread. It's quiet it really is. It's getting better but, I sit nearer to the away end than the Kop and despite what the Kopites say, the noise doesn't travel very well.. Hence the chant (again) "Is this a library".

I do wish we could sing at 0-0.
Why don't you get it going in the south stand/ family stand then?

Or failing that seemingly impossible task, join us on the kop and help generate atmosphere in the only area of the ground that sings

I would never criticise the level of chanting as someone correctly points out, how many of us on here actually get the singing started?

I moved from the kop to gangway C in the south stand last season, simply because I wanted a better view of the game, however I do miss the atmosphere on the kop. By and large, fans go to watch the game, I always join in with the GCB at the start of both halves but I quickly forget to keep singing if something is happening at one end or the other. I used to join in the singing on the kop but I'd look a bit of a prat doing that sat where I am and I guess many others around me feel the same.

I think the all seater stadia has also played a huge part in the atmosphere being lost. Maybe it's just the memory playing tricks but I'm sure it was much louder with lower crowds in the 80's than it is now.

Somewhat unrelated, but I'd like to see John Street stand split again, to allow adults to purchase tickets on there without a child.

I remember when it was built half of the stand (closest to Kop) was the family enclosure and the other half, just whoever. The stand is by far the most empty home end and I feel something should be done to encourage people to sit there and create a bit more of an atmosphere.

Alternatively, make it much more appealing for families to sit there.

Who wants to be "that" guy that stands up and sings on their own?

Singing is a domino effect, unfortunately the dominos don't fall in the edges of the kop either so they don't really fall on the south or John street.

H block on south try to start songs every now and then but not often.

They did Tuesday once we'd scored and sounded very loud. Didn't last long though. :)

I haven't noticed it being much quieter or louder than our most recent seasons. I am starting to feel more positivity around me. Even applause starts to generate a feel good factor to improve the atmosphere, and the last couple of home games have felt more encouraging (and have involved far less shouting obscenities at our players). Coutts has had a couple of "Coooooutts" shouts, as has Scoogs, and both those players only heard their names mentioned if it were in the context of "Get him off the pitch, he's shite".

Let's be fair, there's still a lot more work to go before we really start to believe that this isn't just a brief good run and the players need to show their current levels of effort and desire, with results, for the rest of the season. If we can keep up with that then we can start worrying about the fans if they're still not backing them.

It's taken us a long time to sink this low and it'll take a while to undo the feelings of negativity in the crowd.

This: someone once said that turning the club around is like turning round a supertanker, I think that the fans will turn at the same speed and get louder as the season goes on, as long as the players do their bit.

Again that's fine, but it's far from "best fans in the land" material.

19000 says we are patient fans
starved of much excitement of late , the noise will build as we look to get out of here
to be fair beating bristol rovers is lovely . gets you a bit giddy
but its no where near as exciting as beating a villa or newcastle

the noise does get affected by the quality of who you are playing
the noise when pesch scored v forest is reserved for big occasions

Yeah, it's going to take time. Most of us are still feeling ashamed of just being in a division this low and no amount of being told "you're here on merit" takes the sting out of it. But if we're playing the same brand of football as the last two home games, and we keep up results anything like the last half dozen games, I'm sure the atmosphere will return.

Definitely agree with that and was going to post similar myself.

The south stand is dead but there's not much space available. John Street on the other hand is always half empty - largely due to the 'must be with a child' policy. How often have we seen our players celebrating in front of nobody on that side after scoring at the Bramall Lane end? We could start using that space much better.

When there is any sort of atmosphere it only comes from the Kop. The club could do more to try and create another noisy area. The Bramall Lane end of John Street would be ideal. I think plenty would move over there if the pricing was OK, I would. It'd be good to move away from the Kop without moving away from the atmosphere.

A good way to get a bit of noise from the fans would be to stop the slaphead Sinclair from playing John feckin Denver at every opportunity, he more than anyone has destroyed the atmosphere at the lane till we as fans are almost waiting to be prompted by the tannoy to get a song going. Tom Hark was my pet hate for killing natural goal celebrations but now not content with playing John Denver at each kick off he plays it at the final whistle killing any ovation from the crowd at the end of the game, I'm only surprised he hasn't found a shit song to play when we win a corner or a throw in.

I sat there for one of the Cup games once. There are plenty of miserable bastards in there who would sour milk with a glance. I stood up at half time and when the bloke behind me came back after queuing for his Bovril he asked me to sit down and the players had only just started coming out of the tunnel. I suggested he didn't tug on my sleeve again and stood until kick off while he told everyone around him. I bet he posts on here :)

It doesn't matter. We shall take over and overpower them.
