What was bad luck at Scunthorpe?
I'm usually an optimist, but I need to raise two key points;
- we didn't deserve the goal
- the red card was an absolute gift.
So why on earth didn't we go in for the kill? We had plenty of opportunities to get another goal, so why didn't we put them to the sword?
If I was Chris Wilder, I'd be fuming tonight. You can't see out the last 20 minutes of the game worried about conceding when yer 1-0 up against 10 men. That should have been put away after their lad walked.
Am I being too harsh? Did anyone else walk away from that game feeling like it wasn't a win?
New regulations meant dog food companies couldn't put chalk in their products anymore, so it went away. We shall tell our grandkids tales of white shite but they will never know it.
No that's Mark the Pitsmoor pig.Der Der!
And now in the chair is Tom, a critic from Sheffield, and Toms chosen specialist subject is, shit.......

Bristol Rovers were a big physical side and not without some ability going forward. They had good opportunities but weren't good enough to take them, Easter in particular. They didn't have a defender on the bench (but had 5 in the starting line-up) and dealt with anything we had going forwards relatively comfortably in the first half. We were lucky to go in level. Thank goodness for Moore. In the first 15 minutes or so they were by far the better side. We seemed to struggle with the 442 formation and didn't look like scoring against their 352. They switched to 442 and it cost them the game. Easter's sending off didn't seem to hurt them and we were hanging on at the end. Coutts can't defend to save his life, still owes us a goal, but tonight was the best I have seen him perform for us. Sadly a number of our players (Sharp, Duffy, Freeman) weren't at the races tonight, but and its a big but, we ground out a win. Best player on the pitch for me was one of theirs - Boateng.
That was last season. What's really getting on my tits in all of this is the fact that whilst dog shit it may have been , it wasnt white dog shit .
Whatever happened to white dog shit ?
Those are the persistent doomsayers, not you. Plus those who expect a top class performance every week and can't even be satisfied with three points.
I'm not actually fully agreeing with any one in particular, just my own thoughts but football is what it is. If we start putting results down to luck because of a five/ten second event rather than a 90+ minute game of endeavour and ability id say we would be missing the whole point of the game.
I think you also said we were poor, I don't agree with that either btw and nor did anyone around me. My fear is always that we won't get that second goal cushion as I'm sure many peoples is, but last night we didn't need it. We scored a good goal and even if it had been a goalmouth scramble, as the idea is to get the ball in the net I can't see why it's lucky. Same as good defending prevented Rovers from scoring. That's the idea, don't let a goal in and score goals yourselves.
The Rovers fans on Roy's thread don't seem to think we were lucky either.
Yeah there’s always one or two persistent doomsayers just like there’s always one or two who won’t have a bad word said no matter how justified (blade too long for example). I’d like to think most of us can watch a game and comment both positively and negatively depending on what we see even though we won’t all have the same interpretation.
I suppose it’s all rather subjective. My take was that they moved the ball better, created more, worked our keeper more, looked fitter and quicker and even with ten men, looked the more likely. But we did score a good goal, somewhat against the run of play in my opinion.
As I say, I would say there is an element of luck when you win a game whilst creating less than the opposition. For the same reason I say we were a tad unfortunate not to take anything from the Bolton game. But credit where it’s due to the likes of Moore, EEL and O Connell for keeping them out.

Theres fortune in all gamesDiffering views are the lifeblood of the forum Dane!
I shall expect Deadbat to mark both bad and good luck in his match reports in future though.![]()
the only thing that grinds my gears are huber critical people who whinge when we win
or treat a good away draw as failure
some moaning about beating rovers, whats that about
so we scored against the run of play
not like we havent ever dominated games and got suckered
the game that got us in league one , middlesborough at home
we murdered them had 15 odd clear cut chances got clobbered by a late breakaway
thats football
I was told there was no such thing as luck in football when I said wed suffered from more than our fair share of bad luck
so if we get any its way way overdue
Saying we didn't play well and got a bit of luck but happy with 3 points is not moaning. It's just an honest assessment. Similarly, I've said we played decent at Bolton and were a bit unlucky to lose. It's called balance.
In what way did Middlesbrough at home get us in League 1? We were relegated by a distance with Barnsley at home confirming it.

HOW CAN YOUR NOT DESERVE A GOAL? SERIOUSLY, A GOAL IS A GOALI'm usually an optimist, but I need to raise two key points;

I didn't think you were moaning. You were wrong, but it wasn't moaning![]()
if wed beaten barnsley wed have gone down
they only equalised as our players realised that
was the previous home games v boro that set it up
I didnt say it was you who had moaned
threads like that was dog shit after a win
really
as I pointed out leicester won 5 of 6 on the trot with hard fought , lucky even , 1-0 wins
if we win 1-0 with our only shot at goal with 8 deflections
its a good win
the table says so
We went down with a whimper by some distance. Putting it all on the Middleborough game makes no sense. I’d say the week where we lost to Scunny, Derby and Palace (all relegation rivals) was the most defining period if we were to pick one.
I said that was the game it became clear wed go down
had the returning Henderson not missed 4 or 5 open goals wed have won and given ourselves hope , but the loss to an Emnes breakway goal was a very big nail in our coffin
it put us bottom which was soul destroying , more than any other gameYou said "the game that got us in league one". I disagree. As I say, I think the 3 consecutive 6 pointers we lost in the space of about 8 days (one of them from leading 2-0) was what made it clear we were going down.
it put us bottom which was soul destroying , more than any other game
it knocked the proverbial stuffing out of us
perhaps if you understood footballers mentalities a bit more
rather than just your view
not my logic was also the papers accountI still reckon losing 3 6 pointers in a week, one from 2-0 up does more damage psychologically and mathematically than losing at home to Boro. It also gave a lift to all of our rivals down there. Perhaps if you understood numbers etc. instead of your own made up logic.......
