Done.

I think Done isn't good enough. Apart from one season he's never been a prolific scorer. I like his work rate and some of his finishing has been superb. But he didn't do it often enough and I've seen plenty of him and other good players down the years to reach an opinion that's he's not the answer.

By all accounts he had a good game on Saturday but I remain to be convinced. I think Lavery will take his place very soon and we'll be all the better for it.

I somewhat agree that he probably won’t prove good enough to be the main man up front for a full season if we intend to chase automatic promotion due to his technical shortcomings. However, I don’t read too much into the “he’s only scored in one season” argument as that’s the only season where he’s been played consistently as a striker.

Last time we got promoted we didn’t really have 1 striker who was the stand out performer. Shipperly, Kabba, Webber and to a lesser extent the likes of Pericard, Akinbiyi, Dyer and even Deano played their part. I’d say Done is good enough to play a part along with Sharp, Clarke, Lavery and maybe a new striker in January depending where we are. It’s about having people fit, playing the right players for the right games and playing the right combinations to compliment each other. It’s also about the form of individuals at certain stages of the season. Sharp and Done are doing quite well just now so I’d be inclined to stick with them leaving Clarke and Lavery on the bench. Depending on how each does with their time on the pitch, that could be subject to change.

People forget that he played up front and was generally poor – which was likely a factor influencing his switch to elsewhere in the team.

Has he really had this run of poor form up front?

Started really well and got injured. had to sit out a good while at the end of the season.
As for last season, I'm pretty sure the man with the golden CV didn't give him much of a go up front. Whether he deserved that chance is another thing but I don't have a vast recollection of him continually being poor when played in his favourite roll (I could easily have missed it though, spending too much time trying to spot the invisible work of our mid field genius).

He was tried alongside Sharp for a bit and looked poor from what I saw – you clearly had effort, but there seemed to be little understanding and little goal threat. And to be honest, prior to Saturday he hadn't exactly stormed back into the role this season. That's why I'm hoping he's reached a turning point on Saturday – we haven't seen him since those very early games play up front and contribute either with goals himself or helping to create them. We saw both. This is encouraging.

If ever there was an example of how a shit manager can fuck a player up it is Done ,when he left the pitch at Coventry at the end of last season he was a broken man ,played at left back with Che Adams miles away in front of him totally clueless at how to help him ,Coventry gave 3 different wingers a free run at Done and he was run ragged in the wrong position ,hopelessly unprotected by a clueless prick who hadn't got a clue. He now has a manager who gives a shit and is a changed player and he isn't on his own.

There's also the weather to consider regarding the opportunity our strikers have.

Come the winter months when the pitches become unpredictable then having a player like Done who chased every ball will add more value.

Games where playing nice Football isn't working, then having a bigger, more physical player is going to help.

Important thing is Wilder has options and different ones at that.

Conditions may dictate which ones are effective at different times.

Done and Sharp appeared not to communicate or even celebrate goals together. At Wimbledon this appears to have changed. Got to be a good sign.

Worrying for Clarke at the moment, he's good for playing with a target man to see out games but as a starter with Sharp, Done, Lavery also fighting for that position you have to worry.
I think what it is with players like Done and Clarke is that if they were at smaller clubs, their position wouldn't be at any risk and they'd be consistently getting games and thus producing their best form. As was the case with those two at Rochdale and Bury respectively. I'm sure there's other examples of players we've signed in recent years too. It is one of the reasons it is important to try and keep a consistent team, but at the same time making sure you're not repeatedly playing players who are constantly falling below expectation.

Back up/ competition for Billy I reckon.

1 from Sharp and Clarke to partner 1 from Done and Lavery. For now, Sharp and Done start with Clarke and Lavery having to try to take their chance from the bench.

A lot of time and effort spent to sign a player as a bench warmer though.

When Lavery is fit he us going to be about fourth choice.

Which is a great thing! Having 4 good choices upfront who can score goals is a problem we haven't had since we have been in this shit league.

Too often we have been dependent on one goal scorer - Ched, Blackman, Billy. When Clough was here we played half a season with no strikers!

Let's enjoy this season and having the option to change it around!

Disagree, he's only scored one and doesn't look particularly deadly infront of goal but I do like his work rate and attitude and how he stretches defences. I think it's working at the moment but Lavery will be a better option than Done once he's fit.

Why? He hasn't scored goals at any point in his (admittedly) short career so far.

Done, for me, is a bit like Vardy. He's not very good technically but knows where the net is.
Hopefully we can hang on to all four this season and not limp into the final games with a lack of firepower.

The main reason I don't like Done is because he reminds me of the bloke that drives the fire engine in Trumpton.

Remember Wendy v Leeds? 6-0? It's all you need to form that opinion :)
No I don't. I don't live in Yorkshire any more so have little interest in small time provincial clubs in the second tier.

Done's goal at Wimbledon was superb. His second feint took the Wombles keeper and defender out of the game. If Messi had scored a similar goal, everyone would be raving about it.

And how many times have you seen him play 90 minutes? What does having 'more quality' even mean? Sorry but that's drivel...
Seen him against Leeds for Wendy, and 2 games in his chesterfield spell, as well as once in the tele for Plymouth and he's impressed me every time. I thought more quality was pretty clear? Is saying that's Sergio Aguero has more quality than Chris Porter drivel? It's a fair comment.

On the ball he's better, makes better runs and is seemingly a better finisher.

Done has his qualities but Lavery is a better player. It's not a sight on him.
