It feels good to be able to say that we head to Kingsmeadow after two consecutive wins, two wins from behind as well having shown some real grit, determination and passion. Something that we didn't see in abundance prior to the oxford game so I guess we can call it improvement?

The Opposition

Needless to say, one man who we will all remember will be the very frustrating Lyle Taylor who we brought down from Falkirk with huge hopes for him to succeed after being prolific north of the border, needless to say his career with us was some what of a flop. He scored 2 in about 20 games for us and that led to us sending him straight back up north of the border to Partick on loan before finally selling him to Scunthorpe......Funnily enough he drew the same blanks over there and they copied us and palmed him back off to Partick on loan.

Taylor did however find his feet last year with AFC Wimbledon and was a catalyst behind their promotion from League Two (where the hell did that come from?).....He managed 20 goals in 40 games and finished 4th top goalscorer in the whole of the league (Unbelievable Jeff!!)...

When it comes to the transfer market, Wimbledon did all of their summer shopping from the bargain but never the less they were fairly active and brought in 10 players without spending a penny. Ok we aren't talking a fine selection of big hitters and household names however they have managed to add a bit of experience for the step up to league one with the likes of Dominic Poleon (who we know a bit about after his loan spell), Tyrone Barnett (From Shrewsbury, been around and got multiple T-Shirts), and Dean Parrett (Still only 24 but played for a few clubs in this league).

Like us, AFC Wimbledon seem to have found themselves a scapegoat in new goalkeeper in Ryan Clarke who was signed from Northampton Town in the summer. I recall the 34 year old shot stopper having a decent game against us a few years ago when we beat Oxford at BDTBL in the FA Cup, but he seems to be the equivalent of George Long down there at the minute what with the fans getting on his back big time and blaming him for the clubs bad start to the season. The gaffer Neal Ardley gave his public support for the keeper in the press and asked his fans to get of his back.

AFC Wimbledon's form so far (most recent at top)

Wimbledon 2-1 Chesterfield
Wimbledon 3-0 Swansea City U21 (cup)
Rochdale 1-1 Wimbledon
Northampton 0-0 Wimbledon
Wimbledon
1-2 Scunthorpe
Wimbledon 1-2 Bolton
Peterborough 3-2 Wimbledon (cup)
Walsall 3-1 Wimbledon

League Form :- P6, W1, D2, L3, GS6, GC9, PTS5

In form Player:- Lyle Taylor (Would you Adam and Eve it) - 2 goals.

Like us it seems that Wimbledon had a bit of a poor start to the season however they seem to have made a bit of steady progress most recently. A win against a Swansea team in the pisspot cup didn't go without notice as the likes of Emnes and Tabanou played and were taught a bit of a lesson by the hosts.....Then we have the most recent games in the league at home to Chesterfield which was won in a similar style to ours having gone behind in the first half only to come out in the second half and peg them back before going on to win with a last gasp winner from ex blade Poleon. All in all a good three points against a steady Chesterfield team, it continued some good recent form and lifted them out of the bottom three and no doubt gave them a bit of confidence.

Betting:-

AFC Wimbledon 7/4 Draw 9/4 Sheffield United 6/4

I don't suppose the betting is any real surprise really despite the home teams upturn in recent form, after all they are newly promoted and in the bookies eyes we are going to be there or there abouts come May.

Again the odds are a bit wide on the draw front which is down to both teams struggles to keep a clean sheet and again the fixture is being touted around as one that should be included on the both teams to score coupon.

The most popular bet at the minute however is the away win with around 50% of the market share, then we have the draw with the home win not overly fancied.

As for me.....Well I don't like to be on either Sheffield team for obvious reasons however I fancy us to continue the trend with a Sheffield United win and both teams to score bet.

Should be a good day for you TGM
Blades match then the Brook fight at the 02
Sounds idillic :)

We were a complete shambles when Lyle Taylor played for us. He was poor but the circumstances were, to say the least, mitigating. In truth he's an good 4th tier striker with the potential to become a decent 3rd tier one and we'll need to keep a close eye on him on Sat.

Grinding results out is going to be the norm for us in this division purely because of who we are and how we are perceived. I think in Wilder we finally have a manager who can see this. If we win on Sat to make it 3 on the bounce, the division will start to take note.

I feel like a kid again mate I honestly do, I can't wait.

I'm a bit gutted that the undercard starts a bit early because we are going to struggle to get over on time never mind have a pint and there are a couple of fights I wanted to see such as Nigel Benn's lad and Kid Galahad. The doors open at 5pm and initially we were heading back over to Waterloo for a couple of jars and then jumping on the jubilee line I think but now it looks as if we've got to make a decision to miss a chunk of the undercard and drink before hand or whether we head straight over to watch as much of the undercard as possible and pay £5 a pint for piss lager.

Forget the Ale enjoy the sport .

Echo that CBC - sounds a great undercard, as well.
My advice is don't drink the Weasel piss

It's guaranteed that we will lose.

Remarkable how so many people can be fooled so often.

there are a couple of decent bar/pubs within the O2 .

I know it's very bad of me but I'd 100% take a draw.

We've got a bad record against promoted L2 teams and we'll be an even bigger scalp for Wimbledon than we were for the others. It's a tight little ground and they've improved recently. A defeat there would crush a lot of this momentum we've built up, a draw wouldn't really change much. A 0-0 and a decent performance would do me, not that we should play for the draw. I think we'd all have taken 4 points from Gillingham and Wimbledon away.

we usually lose these types of matches as small newly promoted L2 teams are our bogey teams. Likes of Stevenage Crawley Exeter or Hartlepool . Especially Fleetwood they thought all their christmas had come at once. Fleetwood chairman wrote in the programme we were "biggest game in their history" & at bramall lane, the way Fleetwood twitter went off you'd have thought they were playing in the fa cup final

I'd prefer to smash them but you're right. As a rule of thumb if you win most of your home games and draw most of the aways you'll be in the promotion race. Four points from two away games would be decent.

We do have a bad record in these games. I keep thinking of our defeat at Wycombe in our first year down here. Plus Poleon and Taylor will want to do well.

I suspect a narrow defeat, just because it's something we do. That said, if we play like we did against Gillingham, I think we will win.

I'd be happy with a 0-0. We haven't bagged a clean sheet in the league yet, which is something I'd like to see some improvement on. They need a win a lot more than we do, so I'd like to see us dig in and frustrate them. We're in a rare position for us recently with this game - We're clearly in better shape than they are. That makes it tempting to go full pelt and try and win 3-0, but that could prove to be costly if we're not careful. I'd prefer to err on the side of caution with this one. If we can grab a 1-0 that's grand, but these plucky little promoted sides always step up a gear against us and even at this early stage, some bet-hedging would be wise. We need the "marathon, not a sprint" attitude tomorrow. Smash Peterborough next week at 'om. Then we're fully up and running.

On second thoughts, we could really do with a win with Peterborough being our next game - it'll be a nervous game against them. We owe them one though. But I'd still take a draw at Wimbledon.

We have better players and are now playing with a bit more confidence, we shoukd take the game to them and maybe second half after they run out of ideas finish them off, our bench will be strong and a big asset later on 0-2

Honestly think we will beat them comfotably. We are by no means the finished article but things appear to be changing and we will have more options from the bench on Saturday.

Given that their ‘keeper seems to be the target of the boo boys and has shattered confidence, I’d like to see us try to exploit that. We knew Howard was dodgy on long shots but didn’t test him once. I think we need to be pumping high balls and pot shots at this keeper and Sharp and Done need to be on their toes for anything that drops.

It’s very tough to predict how this one will go but at a guess, I’ll say 1-1. Reckon either Poleon or Taylor will notch for them. 3-5-2 is good for controlling the midfield but can always see us caught out on the break if they weather the storm as we can get easily outnumbered at the back.

This is the sort of game all set up for that "Crewe moment" (or "Yeovil moment") that's become so depressingly familiar.

Under CW? Can't see it happening.

He did, unfortunately it was Willem rather than Jermain.
