I think he was brought as 4 choice central defender and cover at rb because Wilder knew he was a cheap honest pro and had worked with him - and I guess he was happy to just be a squad player.

He couldn't get in Oxford's side last year and has never played at any decent level. So I think it's a stretch to assume he would be any improvement on the current guys - although from what we have seen it looks like they need some experience with them.
 
According to the Oxford board when he signed his legs had gone and was slower than Slowy Macslowface
 
To be fair, we could have another two threads, one saying why can't Chapman get a game with no options on the left and two why can't McNulty or Done get a start up top when Billy and Leon aren't playing well together? I just can't be arsed to start them because there is only CW who can answer them really, we could be waiting a long time for the explanations.
 
He is just a mate of CW's who has never been above the fourth division. He is too old and slow to get in any team , but CW thought it would be the decent thing to give him a contract at the Lane.

If he doesn't play on Saturday , he will never play.
 
How can he seriously step straight into the first team when he hasn't played a match for over a month?

This at a level he has never played in before...... Another player we have no idea if is good enough, but lets give him a 2 year contract anyway.

Fucking god help him - and if correct, why the hell are we giving a wage to someone that bad?
 
If he is ONLY here to play in an injury crisis then what is the point - couldn't Semple be that type of emergency player?
Semple was 6 months away according to Wilder - doesn't seem long in football terms really.

If Wright is not going to play when the defence is crap - what is the point?

Sounds bonkers to me.

If we use a slow aging left footed centre back at right back, I think I might just pack it in!

I also thought Wright was a good addition to the club as he was both a seasoned pro and a good example of a player with leadership qualities who could have been a great mentor to the younguns on the bench or behind the scenes .

For that to work though we have to have some younguns even near the first team set up :(

How any manager, no matter who they are, can determine a youngster is 6 months away is a bit daft, it's pure guesswork and there was no need to say it.

He doesn't know how he's going to develop, he could be ready in a few weeks or he could never be ready at all, but 6 months Chrissie? I think even you know that's guesswork at best.

He's trying to manage the situation to take pressure of him and Semple. And make sure Semple doesn't start getting billy big bollocks.

Not yet but if people start saying he's the next Kompany then he might start thinking he is.
As far as I can see, from the last few years, our kids appear to be mentally weak and lack the ability to dig in when things are going wrong.
CW seems to be setting out his philosophy that if you're not prepared to fight, you won't last long in our first team. I agree with that. We're a big club in this league, and the league above and we need the big club mentality - no passengers, failure is not acceptable. That includes the kids.

There's a reason why Giggs, Beckham, Scholes, Neville G got into Man U's first team and stayed there for a long time. There's a reason why Sharpe, Gillespie, etc were quickly bombed out and why other prospects barely got a look in.

That's why I asked before about what we do at the academy in terms of mental strength, because my impression of the kids is that they're nice lads but soft as shit. Is anyone at the club even looking at why we seem capable of producing technically competent players who can't even hold a place down in L1?
 
They cant hold down a place due to every manager that comes in to the club is shit scared to use them ... they dont have the time to give these players a solid run in the team. You cant tarnish a whole academy due to Reed being small and week.

The youngsters are in and out of the team like a gigolo's knob........

I never mentioned Reed or physical strength. I'm talking about mental strength. Scholes was a ginger midget with asthma but he knew how to impose himself on a game.

You can only get mental strength through playing games. Class 92' got to play games. When they were shit they kept playing in the team.

You can't replicate the mental toughness for first team football unless you play first team football.

Now, if you are talking physical toughness then go and watch the 18s and 21s. They never get bullied at either age group and are at times ridiculed by other clubs for their physicality. They have this at each age group because they play games.

Mental strength comes from playing at The Lane when the crowd are pissed off, we need a win, we concede a goal, we score and need to keep a clean sheet, this strength can only come from being in that position.

Take penalty kicks, you can't replicate the mental side of taking a penalty in a shoot out in training. You only get that by doing it in a penalty shoot out.

If you dont play the youngsters they will never get the mental toughness needed.

But when was the last time a player made a debut like the Kyles where you thought 'we've got one here'? Every kids' chances are limited and if they don't make a good first impression then they might not get the chance to make another.

(As I was typing I worked out the answer to my question - TK. Shame about his knees, tragedy really for him and us).

Fair enough. It wouldn't surprise me though if he said it to give him a reason to bring one of his old mates in. I mean what viable reason could there be to bring someone in on a two year contract at 30 years old to never even think about playing him?

He's not playing Semple and he's not playing Wright, the only difference is that Wright will be costing considerably more money to not play than Semple who could easily be cover.

I suppose Saturday could change my cynical look on this subject although I won't be holding my breath.

Come on Bush, how many clubs are in a position to say that.
Walker is in the top 5% in world football.
They are very very rare.

But I do get your point
