He is bigger, faster and stronger

Bigger yes, stronger and faster is debatable.

What isn't up for debate is that Sharp is younger, has a better scoring record and has played at a higher level for most of his career. If Sharp leaves it will be to a club higher than us, Clarke would go to a team at our level or lower, what does that tell you?

There are actually still people who think selling our best players frees up money to bring in better players . I don't know how many times fans have to witness themselves being conned before they get it. It doesn't happen. The replacements are never as good and we continually weaken ourselves. Why on earth anyone thinks Sharp is now a terrible player, as opposed to one who's just struggling for a bit of form right now, I have no idea.

If at the start of the window someone had said we'll have be getting rid of Brayford, Adams and Sharp I'd definitely not have renewed. We're 2/3 of the way there. We're slowly devoiding ourselves of any quality and replacing them with players Bury and Oldham fans weren't even in agreement on. Unbelievable.

Poor Wilder jumped at the chance of taking the job with his boyhood club, but the restraints he's working within our obvious and as a club we're losing our pulling power and the bloke seems at breaking point. I don't think he, or anybody, can turn it around at this stage, without a board that's interested we're sinking.

Deffo faster from what I have seen in the games this season. If Sharp goes then we should bring in quicker strikers

Billy Sharp admits that his performances haven't been up to his usual standard and welcomes the challenges of the new, fresh, up and coming, not reached their peak yet players vying for the striker's role.

Billy posing with Junior Top Blade, who's in contention for partnering Big Harv up front v Oxford United.

CANNOT get any more factual, rational and bang-on-the-money with that quote.
I'd like to further add, if I may.
No other player at Sheffield United is too.

Except of course Calamity George, who is very, very, very young and gets younger with every schoolboy blunder he makes...

Can I point out that at this stage last season Sharp had a similar slow start?

In fact an even more distressing thought is that at this stage last season people were more excited in Sammon's goalscoring prowess!

*shudders*

At the end of last season we were further away from promotion than at any time since relegation. For a number of reasons we are not in a position to fund a promotion push by conventional means, ideally we would buy good players and play attractive attacking football under the guidance of a progressive manager and get promotion !! The only reason Chris Wilder got the job is because he was prepared to oversee the 'culling' with no funds other than those that he can generate through sales and by moving on the high wage earners. However, the really sad part is that McCabe new that only a manager with 'Blades' history would be given a chance of seeing it through without the fans turning on him,if it succeeds it's a master stroke,if it fails then Wilder becomes the fall guy.

I see your reasoning that selling your best player is always a bad move, but that was last season under a manager who signed him and now under Wilder, its different tactics and different players and Billy isn't playing as our best player is he? Nor was Brayford. Sometimes we have to let people go because for whatever reason they're not happy and not performing. Yes I'm all for patience and I'd love to see Billy stay and start scoring again but I think if he does leave its not the end of the world based on current form. Having high earners in he squad is fine as long as they represent value for money with better displays than the others, but when they are consistently the same as the lower wages earners then they don't represent value for money. Now I don't know what Billy's on and he's fully justified his wage so far but I think he'll be one of the higher wage earners and with a transfer fee and saving on wages I dare say we can buy a younger replacement like Lavery, who might compliment the team better. As I said before, when harry sold Peter Beagrie all those years ago he went and used to money to buy Deane, Bryson, Roberts. That didn't work out too bad did it?!

The Picture Of George Long...

Being a cultured man of taste and refinement, you will be one of only a few who will understand that comment.
The others will look blankly at the screen and ask themselves, "I wonder what other words he'll use today?" that we won't comprehend.

Nice work, Dorian!

...and Billy isn't playing as our best player is he?

And who, precisely is? Never mind, the top scorer must go.

Harry had the experience and nous to turn sow's ears into silk purses. Wilder hasn't. That's the difference.

OK. We sell Billy. Can you name one player who is available, affordable, willing to join a team at the bottom of Div. 3 and who would replicate Billy's goal-scoring?

I've had the same thoughts for years:

To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all

“Yes: I am a dreamer. For a dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.”

Those were the exact words used by Nigel Adkins when he was summoned by the board after the 0-4 at Gillingham.....

I did write...

And here you are too.

We're wasted on here...

"But I don’t want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can’t help that," said the Cat: "we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad."
"How do you know I’m mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn’t have come here."

Having looked at what Wilder did last season at Northampton I'd beg to differ that Wilder can't turn a sow's ear into a silk purse. Some fans are very quick to jump down hios throat when we've only played 4 games! Give the man time and as for Sharp, I'm not saying lets sell him, but if he does go than I trust its because Wilder has allowed the sale for the greater good of signing more players and shaping the team the way he wants it.

As for your question, I don't have the contacts or knowledge that Wilder has or has at his disposal. But I'll name you two that said. Matt Done and Marc McNulty! We can't keep all three of those, with only one in the side, its just a waste of talent. I thought McNulty would be the one to go, but maybe not. Lavery is my shout from another club, and no he doesn't have the same record as Billy but you might find because he has more pace that he compliments the side better. We all know we're crying out for pace!

you do the math as to the current situation.

Ok, I'm prepared to see Sharp walk and keep Clarke (although if he's the answer I've no idea what the fucking question is).
I'm prepared to read Silents irrational blaming of Sharp for us not getting promoted (despite having Dean Hammond grazing unnoticed in midfield for most of the season).
I'm even prepared to read Pinchy's laboured Bladey Blade shite on yet another thread (quite surprised he's so enamoured with Hoof/Flick/Chase as the new favoured style to be honest).

But I'm fucked if I'm letting THAT go. It's MATHS. There's a big fucking S right at the end. Always has been and always will be until the fucking Americans take control of the world and do away with English as the global language of choice.

Sharp and Clarke could develop a good partnership if Billy got closer to Clarke they would play well off each other. The sale of Billy is just another step towards relegation whoever comes in as a replacement (if anyone does) will not get 20 goals this season.

No issue with Shaep going and I believe it's for the greater good. What i won't take is this shit he's getting. He needs a bit more respect than he's getting

Totally agree with that, I really respect Billy and his love for the club is clear, and he's given his all for us last season. He's not suddenly a bad player and right now, as with Clarke, they're having to feed off scraps but I do think that Sharp and Clarke need to work as a partnership more but maybe that's not working because they aren't actually playing as a 2 but with Clarke deeper. We don't know exactly what is said to the two of them to make it work. We're only guessing and they certainly need more service.
