Billy Sharp

I'd say Billy would be better as the sole striker as he can actually hold the ball up, but there is the issue with height.

I actually thought about wingbacks and it would make a lot of sense if we hadn't reduced the width of the pitch!

Yeah I guess with the pitch narrowed he's trying to keep it tighter and it means that the outer two of the advanced midfield can get to the wings easier than a wider pitch would allow. That's my guess as to why he's done that.

Shit me, we could be going from a strikeforce of Adams & Sharp to Clarke & Lavery.

And that's so bad?! Lavery and Clarke have scored goals particularly Clarke and Lavery has pace. Adams wanted out so not fussed when a player wants to leave and we all saw last season how inconsistent he could be.

Whilst he was inconsistant the strike partnership had potential to grow. Their tally combined was pretty decent too.

Not too sure on the type of player Lavery is (pacey?) & he hasn't played much football since a spell in 13/14 @ Wed***day.

I'd say Clarke and Lavery between them have the potential to score 35 between them and also build a better partnership and understanding than Sharp and Adams did.

Lavery would be a nice option to have going of bits i've heard of him but for me if I had to pick a suitable, realistic partner for Clarke then I'd pick Matty Taylor.

I agree, but I don't think he's realistic. I think it would take a better option than us to tempt him away so soon after signing a new contract.

I think Lavery would be good coming off the left side in a correctly balanced 4-2-3-1.

The worst thing about this for me, is it appears that Wilder still sees Clarke as a fucking Target Man. HE ISN'T! He is a tall, black Sharp that isn't quite as fit and is a little more prone to injuries.

It's perhaps worth reiterating what I posted last season and how we are seeing it all play out.The strategy last season was to stay competitive until the big summer clear out: the owners did not see heavy investment as feasible due to the phenomenal money that was already tied up in bad players/contracts. The strategy now is to get the high earners out of the club, and transition to a more manageable wage bill with incentive based deals. Wilder has, on numerous occasions, stated publically, "I'm here to get the wage bill down". This doesn't mean we are downscaling in investment, just that money will go towards player purchases rather than big wages. Billy only has a year left on his contract and a year option - you do the math as to the current situation. Basham, Coutts, Brayford, Sharp and J Wallace are the last of the high earners and all can be disposed off in the summer. If Wilder has us in the top half and some of the constituents parts of a promotion team in place, I don't think they'll sack him. He must get recruitment right though

Sharpe has semental value is so much we never played him to his best during his precious spells with us despite him proving previous managers wrong. However, I would say Sharp is our top earner and I would much rather see a younger and faster striker alongside Clarke, whilst he still has the motivation to win a ball.

Further to the above. It appears clear to me that Wilder is doing a complete sweep and about time too. This will take more than one season. Have faith and let him do his job. Kop. Don't be idiots, give a Manager a chance to build something because it won't be this season we go up.

At the end of the day, that's his fucking job! He should be scoring for fun in this league, but he isn't, fact!
It always land in "but he scored 20 last year"!!
Thats the only argument for the man, and he's firing blanks now, and we can't afford for him to be in this form.
Id rather see Mcnulty playing with Clarke, how many was it he scored last season? And how many did Done score the season before!? Why aren't these players playing every week???

So it doesn't matter that sharp scored 20 but then you're telling us what the others have done previously. Genius

I'm trying to make the point that it doesn't matter how many any of them scored last season, the season before or the one before that, what matters is that it's not happening now!!
Surely you don't need to be a "Genius" to work that out, or am I missing something your argument is pointing out!????

Clarke ain't scoring either, in fact he has 1 less league goal than Sharp. So surely we need to get Clarke out the team as well?!?

Sharpe has semental value

Two points i'd like to address the crowd with, if I may.

1 Sharpe

2 Semental value...

Spanish translation
semental = Stallion, Stud, Sire.

Billy Sharp has the value of a stallion.

You wrote it, i'm just pointing it out.

Which school was this, because by the time he got to Ecclesfield (where I was in his year and in a few of his classes) I'm sure he was a Blade; he may not have been in primary school, I'm not sure.

Not that any of this is relevant to the ongoing discussion, though I am genuinely curious as I do recall there not being many of us Blades at Ecco and he was definitely one.

Anyway, back to the main point. Fact is, he's a Blade now. If he wasn't, he'd be playing in the league above. Regardless of who he supports, if he's anywhere near on form, he's one of the best two or three forwards in the division.

Yes mate was Ecco school. I didn't really know Billy because he was in the other half of the year to me but he was very good pals with one of my mates (they both played for Middlewood Rovers) who i still see every now and again and when we get talking about football (He's a pig) he always has a laugh about Billy being a Newcastle fan when they were younger.

But like you say there is no doubting he is a Blade now and you could see it was hurting him last season but just thought I'd mention it about him being a boyhood Toon fan

Putting Bladey Bladeyness aside and trying to look at things rationally, Sharp isn't getting any younger, is yet to adapt to Wilder's style and seems unable to form any sort of partnership with Clarke.

However, Utd are of course currently bottom of the league, struggling to create and score chances and selling him would risk alienating a (vocal) proportion of the club's support at a time when it's really needed

With the possible exception on not changing a losing side untul the fifth game this season, I've not been against anything that Wilder has done so far. My only concern is that's he trying to change too much too quickly. However, if Sharp was to be sold, it would require a quality replacement to be brought in. Taylor looks to be a good option and the strikeforce of him,Clarke, Lavery and Done would be balanced and have a good chance of succeeeding.

CANNOT get any more factual, rational and bang-on-the-money with that quote.
I'd like to further add, if I may.
No other player at Sheffield United is too.
Billy is past his peak! We need players who are not past their peak yet!

Sharp has been different player in the pitch now than previous season. Might be new tactic but also seems like it reflects to Billy's attitude as well. The team seems to be capable to play as unit either way. If losing one striker who can't perform like previous season makes it possible to bring in new and propably more suitable players i'd say it's worth it.

I've been told today by Sebastian (Billy's brother) that he's leaving because wilder wants to build the attack around Clarke. Ipswich is a possible destination it seems.
Been told that Sharp has an older brother but he isn't called Sebastian?
