Moore, Fleck, Clarke and Duffy are hardly "untested, lower standard" are they? All proven performers at League One or higher. Even Hussey joined us on the back of a very good season for Bury.
The four you mention are by far of a lesser caliber of what has been avAilable ....... If Duffey had any balls he would have pushed himself into the championship as he had offers to do so. Same with Fleck. Moore to be seen for longer. Clarke or Ajose? Let me think !!

Me thinks one or two wanted an easier life and have been caught in a bloody nightmare !

You are taking as if we have him for a season to look at him with a view to signing him!! Are you joking?

You are missing the point. He adds no value to the club and no value to the squad.
3 starts last season does not equate to a proven performer.

If we lacked what he offered he would be starting by now.

What is CWs criteria for the " right age " player? An 18 year old untested winger or a 30 year old conference centre back with 12 month sun tan.

It's all fucking illogical at the moment.

the fact it is low risk in itself makes it logical enough. It's not like we've blown our entire budget on him. How do you know he adds nothing to the squad? It's still early doors. He's at least another player to give us an option.

as for Wilders criteria for right age, I don't know you would have to ask him. But I would don't think he's looking at players all the same age. Balance is the key.

12 month sun tan haha. That made me laugh at least.

Get Baptiste on loan at centre back, morsy in centre midfield (to win those half arsed clearances our defence love much) and play mcnulty up front to support Sharp with a proper out and out 2 up front pairing and we wont be far off. Id also get Ched back (contraversial) just for sniffs and giggles.

I have said before, the signing policy by CW could leave us with a squad of no value what so ever. At the moment it is so poor looking with no balance and no system it must be a concern.

My opinion would be Brookes to be brought through instead of Chapman and Semple instead of Wright. For the amount of game time Chapman and Wright get, Brookes and Semple and I have watched both a lot
, offer the club more than the other two. Remember it was CW who blew smoke up Brooks and Semples arse to then sign players who only block their pathway and in my opinion are no better.

These are only my thoughts L1am pal.

What's really concerning about this season for me is how quickly everything has fallen apart.

I've seen us in numerous relegation battles that have started with poor form early on in the season, but it usually took far more games for the team to constantly play so bad and the players to totally lose confidence. There was always a bit of flattering to deceive at team and individual level and maybe a dozen games before realisation set in, but apart from the first half hour against Bolton, we've played like a team that's had their asses kicked for 40 games. Even Wilder seems broken already, even Weir toughed it out until late September.

Something has to have happened behind the scenes day one IMO. Some of the players we've signed were the best at there respective clubs, and even in the League One team, and the existing players that were retained like Sharp would always give 100% even on a bad day.

I've no idea what could have happened, but I think that the good news is that if it is just a rift it should be possible to solve it. The players might not be world beaters but they're not bottom of the table fodder, and I don't think Wilder is a bottom of the table manager long term.

Leeds Rhinos are having a go at this dubious double in Super League this year.

I'm sure the have been many clubs top of the attendance but bottom of the actual league after four games. It would be interesting to know if any club has actually finished bottom of the league while still having the best crowds in the division.

From the short game time Chapman has had quite clearly has pace to burn, so he offers pace which currently we are lacking for the high tempo game Wilder wants to play? I feel he adds that to the squad but needs a solid run of games to help him develop. At 18 he needs a few games to fit in with the squad and learn his trade. I do agree we need a level headed CB and a creative midfielder to go alongside Fleck and a quality pacey wide player.

Baptiste was in match day squad for Boro last week so might be tricky. Maybe Wilder isn't playing McNults as he wants to sell him.

Until he can demonstrate he can set the team up with some kind of tactical system which enables us to dictate the play, my jury is still out on Wilder.

From what I've seen he tries to set up a tight team which can nick a goal here and there. We don't have the players to do this. What's more, we can't pass the ball to another red & white shirt.

Every game this season, I've gone away wondering what it is they work on in the week?? And that I'm afraid is down to management.

We'll see, but I can't envisage Wilder making it to Christmas on current showing.

CW Management style? "angriest man I've ever met" maybe in jest but most humour is based on observation

You are missing my point Gains.

We already have a 19 year old SUFC player who needs to learn his trade. Brooks. Very highly rated with pace and skill. CWs words not mine.

Why teach a Middlesboro player his trade when we should be teaching our own. Especially with the limited game time Chapman will get this season.

We already have a 17 year old SUFC CB player who needs to learn his trade. Semple. Very highly rated indeed. CWs words not mine.

Why give an ageing CB a 2 year contract to sit on the bench? ....... The experienced player should be playing, the youngster gaining experience from the bench.

If we dont go up this year we will be stuck with a squad of zero value and no youngsters with an ounce of experience to come in when they are a couple of years older.

Possibly. Maybe that's why he kept his powder dry on Saturday, there's got to be a balance between how he reacts and say Adkins's, so he might be trying a different approach,

But let's be honest, Sir Alex hardly pussyfooted around his players did he?

Fair enough.

I don't watch the young ones enough to pass judgement on either Brookes or Semple but I do remember Wilder championing both.

The only explanation I can think of RE: Wright is that at 30 perhaps Wilder wanted an experienced backup option for CB. Should Wilson or O'Conell get injured we wouldn't have any first team CB's to come in. Wright will probably play at some point this season and we'll get to see if he is a decent option or not.

Point taken, quite nicely out aswell. I dont understand why Wilson started ahead of Wright, Wright was captain at Oxford last year? Surely has leadership? For the record I dont mind Wilson nor O'Connell. I prefer O'Connell though

Also knew when to put an arm round other players aswell

This is why we are all here. Its all about opinions.

Gains, i can't disagree with your point and understand it..... i would just like to see a younger player on the bench and the experienced one brought in to play.

I question a 30 year old coming to the club as an obvious back up player. To me it shows a lack of ambition by said player and quite happy to be paid knowing he won't play more than 10 games this season. All he is doing is preventing Semple who will be ready by November ( CWs words ) from progressing.

Well its quite obvious that McFadzean was gonna be the starter with O'Connell but as reports say 'Burton offered 150k a year more and Blades took their time'

If McFadzean and O'Connell were to be his first choice that contradicts his desire to play a high line. Both of them are slow. In which case, I repeat, why didn't we sign Mark Beevers on a free? He's not quick either but is more reliable than anyone else we could've got.

A glance at the league table means emotions are running, understandably, high but now is not the time to panic.

Wilder’s team is deficient but not abysmal and, despite 3 defeats, is beating itself, rather than being outplayed.

Of the four league games played to date, the only defeat not self-inflicted through defensive errors was at, league leaders, Bolton – where the overall performance was good.

Wilder will be hurting but now is the time for clear thinking, not hysteria. Having changed his goalkeeper, he now needs to deal with three more problems to turn things round.

1. Central Defence

Wilder has stated his need for another central defender. Given the 4 goals in 2 games emanating from central defender errors this has become a critical priority. It’s two early to judge Wilson and O’Connell, individually or as a pairing, but with the season rapidly disintegrating, we can’t wait to find out.

Wilder, needs to bring in an experienced, proven central defender (Baptiste would do the trick) to play alongside either Wilson or McConnell.

2. The Right Partner for Fleck

Basham has many attributes but has poor positional sense (which, adds to our defensive woes) and plays with his head down.

Wilder, needs to decide, quickly, whether to employ Fleck in the deeper role he played, last season, at Coventry or pushed further up. He then needs to sign a compatible, strong, six-footer to play alongside him.

3. Stop Playing Sharpe and Clarke as a Pairing

Wilder has a huge decision to make here as everyone can see that his current strike pairing isn’t working.

If he wants to persist with 4-4-2, he needs to put some pace alongside Clarke, which is presumably the plan for Lavery. Moving Done alongside Clarke is another option within the current formation.

Alternatively, Wilder could move back to his pre-season 4-2-3-1 set-up, which might look something like:

……………………………..…….Moore

Basham……..O’Connell……………..New CB…………Hussey

…………………………..Fleck…………….New CM

…………………Sharpe………..Scougall…………….Duffy

……………………………………...Clarke

Signing players when you’re rock-bottom is obviously more difficult, which is a key reason why it becomes progressively more difficult to escape a relegation battle as a season progresses.

Wilder’s current squad is well short of promotion material, but neither should it be flirting with relegation. However, no team can consistently gift soft goals and succeed, so at a bare minimum, Wilder must sort out central defence. If he can bring in an effective partner for Fleck and find the right attacking formation, a charge for the Play-offs could yet materialise.
