Basham, like Done, tries his bollocks off, unfortunately they just don't create anywhere near enough, the only chance we have of any of them creating anything is if Done plays up top and how unlikely does that look all things considered? We desperately need a minimum of two creative players bringing in so we can start to look anything like a promotion looking side.

100% correct - 2 creative players are we "could" win the league.
Without these we should finish in the top 6, but as of last year it is no guarantee.
We have some money from the Che sale - some of it needs investing and we should start with Morsy - he looks a very busy player - just the sort for this division.

Was worried I was the only one that though this.

Making Billy Captain limits our options IMO.

Thought he was poor by his standards Saturday, yet not subbed. Hope this doesn't set a precedent.
I didn't think it was a good idea either. He's become our equivalent of Shearer. Undroppable.

Well if he's already played as a traditional full back and in centre of defence in his career, he's got no excuse for looking so shit at wing back last season then.
as I said it was when he was moved up front that he found his best position, and we've hardly used him like that.

Done is like Vardy. He's not a good footballer but he comes alive in and around the box and has an eye for goal.

He was shit until Rochdale discovered his talent as a goal nicker. So that's how we have to use him. If he doesn't want to be cover/competition for Sharp, loan him out to a club that wants him as a striker and then sell him in the JTW once he's got his reputation back. A year playing mainly out of position under Adkins has devalued him.

As I said a few weeks ago... impact player, no more. Ideally. Bit of an expensive impact player though so I'd consider any offers.

And for the thousandth time, he hasn't got pace.

Indeed he hasn't.

Neither had Rob "The Joke" Kozluk (no I haven't missed an "r") but the myth persisted.

I'll always remember Done coming on in the Play Off semi first leg v Swindon a couple of years ago and having a big impact. I think he'd been injured for ages and this was his first game back. Nothing wrong with his goal at 2:45, but it was disallowed. The Swindon player pursuing him just fell over.

We had loads of chances to win the first leg. Should have been at Wembley that year.

Christ those highlights show JUST how much we battered them that day. My Swindon mate had the audacity to text GET THE FUCK IN at the final whistle. What a tosser, we absolutely hammered them. Christ, that video makes me miss Murphy, he was class.

Whatever it is people see in Done, I don't.
He offers absolutely nothing on a football pitch.

Done and McNulty looked much more effective as the front two in pre-season than Sharp and Clarke have. He should have taken those two off, kept Done and brought McNulty on and tried it. Can't see why he's got McNulty bench warming when the front two can't even manage to get a shot in.

Why oh why oh why, after saying Done would be played up front and not out of position is he starting LW?
It doesn't work. It's never worked. It never will work.

I'm beginning to feel like a broken record here... another postcard in to Wilder....

It's almost as if we once had a left winger who could play in that position, but one day he was no longer there and playing for another team and we didn't bring anyone in so 'made-do' with other players who couldn't play in that position.

Isn't it, McCabe?

Did CW actually say Done would be played up front?

I thought CW said he wouldn't be played like Adkins played him (ie wide in a 5)

Not disagreeing about Done in a 4 - it's so clear to see - useless and unproductive - an experiment in the extreme that makes our management team look like numpties for persevering.

What are CW and Knill trying to achieve with it.

Currently Basham and Done are playing positions they can't play.

And the style of the team is counter to Clark and Sharp's skills.

Scougall is being brought on to play a position he can't play.

Early indications are that Wilder does not know what he is doing.

...to be devil's advocate - maybe he does know what he's doing but he is at a halfway house between 1) flogging and rebuilding the previous man's squad and 2) getting towards a side that he wants. For example:
  • He has the centre halves that the previous man didn't, almost.
  • He has the strikers that the previous man didn't;
  • But without the supply to feed said strikers, and;
  • Without the centre mids to win the ball, to feed the wingers, who will in turn supply the strikers.
As much as he despises square pegs in round holes, Wilder has little choice at present and it will frustrate the hell out of him. So what he needs is time. He has the strikers he wants, but they are cut off from the rest of the side, because the middle of the park is gash/out of position, so he plays long ball towards said strikers, which doesn't work out and makes him look clueless as a manager.

Yep, up front...

"Done said: “I want to play at the top of the pitch and the gaffer has said that straightaway and it is music to my ears. I can’t wait to get going."

'Only' 6 of the side brought in last night was Wilder signings, plus one from the bench.

2 of which are midfielders, 3 defenders and a forward.
He's clearly happy with Brayford as he has Freeman ready to come in for him.
He's playing Done out of position (it if is to believed that he wants him playing up front), even though we have Sharp up front who is not performing.

This is more Wilder's team than Adkins was ever allowed, especially at this stage of the season.
