Lee Grant was my pick after scouring wiki.

Certainly has experience, and would be happy with his arrival. Guess it will be a loan.

Never seen the Lavery kid play, but if he has pace then he will do for me as he will be different to anything we have.

But Grant plus a CB, Midfielder would be great. We lack numbers when you look at the squad as I can't see the kids getting many games if any.

Brayford swap with Grant ???

Derby are looking for a right back, but I think they want a decent one. They're being linked with Chris Gunter at Reading. They've already got Cyrus Christie but as I said, they like their luxuries.

Screw this swapping business get Grant keep Brayford quit weakening one position to strengthen another.Make the whole team strong and get out of this woeful division quit being cheap bastards for a change!

Has anyone noticed how many massive clangers Lee Grant has dropped over the past couple of seasons?

Might be something in us moving for a keeper though, Long picked up a slight injury Tue, meaning he couldn`t kick any distance.
Ramsdale played last night at Ossett Albion, so if George is struggling, I don`t think Wilder would trust young Aaron just yet.

A "very" local team suggests one of the regional 6 to me. I'd guess this refers to the striker rather than the goalkeeper, because I still think if Wilder is looking for a goalkeeper he would have gone for Adam Smith from Northampton. Do we need a new keeper? I think we do tbh. Regardless of what you think of George Long (and I happen to think he's a quivering mass of uncertainty with an unsteady grip), you can't go through a whole season with no experienced keeper as back-up. And the fact we released Howard suggested to me at the time that there must be another experienced keeper in mind.

As for the striker bit - Wilder has made it clear he wants someone with pace, someone who will take players on and run at them, something we've lost since letting JCR go. Admittedly, JCR did run at them, leave them for dead, turn round and go back and run at them a few more times, then launch the ball into the kop, but at least he ran at them.

I'm a fan of that Gboly Ariyibi kid at Chesterfield. I like the cut of his jib. I reckon he would be a good one for us to sign. He was only on the bench the other week. I wonder whether someone's had a word with Danny and Morgs and said, "don't let him get injured - we'll buy him off you soon when we've got some money". I suppose it's too early to buy Ched isn't it? Let's keep saving up and maybe we'll have enough money in January?

Anyhow, it will be interesting to see who comes in, for both positions. I think we definitely need both an experienced keeper and someone with some pace - to break down teams like Bolton and Crewe Alexandra!

We were looking in to Lavery a couple of months ago, so wouldn't be surprised if it is him.

We've just sold a striker, lost our first two games due to not being able to take our chances.........can you see where im going with this?

Yet we apparently have the best finisher in the division in Sharp.....though for some reason he's not been at the races and looked a little off the pace.
Just bought Clarke who's generally good for 15-20 a season.
McNulty has been described as the best natural finisher st the club, while Done was bought to put the ball in the net after showing a nack for being in the right place to put the ball in the net.

So for me, we don't need a striker. We need someone who can beat a man, run at teams and open them up when they sit deep. For too long we've not had this and it's cost us. Even Murphy was better when he had space to run with it rather than beating players in the final third.

So pace and skills.....midfield goalscorer....Centre half. Get those three signings right, keep them all fit and we win the league. Simples

can't really change priorities because of two games. Our strikers are more then capable of scoring goals.

If we got Brayford off the wage bill we'd be far more able to make the whole team strong. It's not like he's a strength of ours either. It would have to be cash plus Grant from Derby anyway. But as I said, they'll want a good right back so it's a non starter.

God some people are very quick to write players off.

Ricky.....is this the same Brayford that was a revelation for us? The one who was right
Y regarded as one of if not the best right back in the championship....and later with us league 1? The one who had a twat of an injury and came back...then got another injury towards the end of the season?

It works like this. When you get a long run of matches (years in Brayfords case) without a bad injury your body is strong, super fit and agile. You only have to concentrate on your football and confidence is high.
But spend time injured and you lose all of that, plus you aren't practising your football. So not only do you have to build fitness, strength etc you have to rebuild your touch and confidence.

Class is permanent, form temporary. Brayford has lost no love for the game, and will get fitter, stronger and quicker if he can steer clear of injury. But the more he plays, the more he trains the better the crossing will be. The better his ability to get back and be in the right place to carry out his defensive duties. The more his confidence will grow that he isn't carrying an injury and to put concerns over his fitness behind him.

And finally.....I find it comical how folk assume Brayford is paid several times the salary of most of the squad....he isn't. If we move him on, we still need to find a good full back. Assuming we can do that for a reasonable fee, we then have to pay him. Losing Brayfords salary won't cover the arrival of "several" players. But I guarantee it WILL make us weaker in that position....absolutely 100% for certain.

Lavery had a good partnership with McNulty at Pompey.

Lavery (and McNulty and others) was mentioned by Wilder when he was asked about Portsmouth's best players before Northampton played them last season. There's also the Paul Mitchell link as Lavery was on loan at Chesterfield the season before that.

Doesn't quite fit in with what we're supposed to be looking for though.

I agree they are more than capable but we only have three proper strikers, I feel we need one more, someone with different attributes to what we already have. For me, the key attributes for a striker should be one or two of the following - pace, power, ability to skin a defender every now and then, a venomous thunderbolt shot or an absolute beast in the air. I cant really apply any of those attributes to our strikers. I see a lot of people wanking over a new "defensive" mid that I just fail to see as a massive priority. Ive been to both games and I thought our defence and midfield have looked pretty good, rather solid, the attack however is leaving question marks and we have little options in mixing it up. LW ST and GK for me

Love the bit about JCR, so true. Could never understand why he didn't just cross it or run along the line towards the goal when he beat a defender.

Berty sez 2 signings cud appen. Mebbe. Both men, ageed between 18 n 35, likely t cum from divisions 1 to 4 and positions 1 to 11. Might appen afoor d transfer window closes (if d fax machine is fixed). FACT. Source: Septic Peg. Any one who disagrees, twats d lot of em.

No, it's obviously not the same Brayford. He's been a totally different player since signing for us permanently, and it's not only due to the injury either. He was poor for us before he got that injury and before that he was poor for Cardiff too. There's no suggestion whatsoever that he'll rediscover his best form. He had a long run last season without injury and showed no improvement.

You also think James Wallace will get over his injuries and get stronger. Unfortunately injuries fuck players up for good. Knee injuries, as Brayford had, are notorious for it.

He's surely on at least twice the squad average wage and you've also got to consider any potential fee we get for him. That would free up a fair bit of space. It wouldn't single handedly fund the cost of all the players we need, but in addition to the Adams fee it certainly could. And I'm equally certain that we could get a replacement better than the Brayford we've seen for the last 18 months.

That is bollocks Ricky.
Cardiff didn't want to sell him, Cardiff fans were full of praise for him when they had him in the championship.
Fact is, Clough got the best from him, but we got rid of Clough.
He then played under Adkins.....a man who managed to make a squad worse, cause disharmony in the camp and piss people off. His tactics were dire, he didn't know his best side and couldn't organise the piss up in a brewery. Any wonder he wasn't his best....but was still better than most.

If you think a long run without injury is a few months you are missing the point. The fitness of professional athletes is way above anything you can contemplate. You don't just get that back from a bit of Physio waiting to get the all clear to return. It's hard graft over months off the pitch....but it's matches that really bring them up to speed. That simply cannot be replicated on the training ground.

As for salary....don't speculate. You don't know either the average salary in the squad or Brayfords cut. I can tell you he got A big salary at Cardiff...but had a 50% cut when they went down. He then took a further big wage cut to come here. Figures I don't know in detail, but contrary to popular belief we did operate a strict wage ceiling under Clough and Brannigan. Granted he may have got a bigger signing on fee and release fee from Cardiff, but as for salary it's not anywhere near Hammond levels of 17k a week.
Ignoring the contradictions you make regards selling him....how much would we get for this shit full back then? On your description he's worth what? Shall we say £250k?? That won't get a right lot will it!
