Exactly. I'd say he's just bigging himself up to their fans, so that when they sell, and they will because they have to, he can play the victim and it'll be "poor old Flicker, sold down the river by the board". He'd be better off being honest, surely their fans know they are in the shit?
surely no fans would ever believe that over a player sale, would they?

What's his Bramall Lane appearances to goals ratio?

Great signing, not others about his age etc, we now have 2 experienced strikers both capable of getting 20 goals each. We've got Mcnulty , Done and DCL as back up and have to accept that Adams is going (much as I'd like to keep him)

Now for the monster centre half and Morsy !

No arguments on his ability, but is he the big bossing forward we need? Not sure on that one myself, but i hope he can be.
I think he is just what we need. Poor mans Chris O'Grady or is that a bit harsh? Either way he's a decent signing for this division and one which should solve some of the problems of the last few seasons, since cresswell left at least

Billy and Clarke certainly have goals in them if they can work together. I do think we need the pace of Che though so hopefully we'll keep him as well.

I think Che has lost some of his pace since he bulked up. He doesn't seem as fast to me as when he first came. He can be sold for me. To fund a couple of quality league 1 players. If quality is the right word! But you know what I mean!

Not a bad signing and hopefully not one who's played well against us and will be shit for us. Not the nicest bloke in the world but a league 1 experienced pro. I'd now be fairly confident we have 50+ goals in the front line even if Che and DCL leave. Just need 20-30 goals from MF and 10 from defence now.

I wouldn't say that I have any love for Clarke, always struck me as a bit of a knob BUT his record in this league cannot be questioned. You can only realy judge a player on his last season and he got 19 goals, despite missing 10 matches due to his Dad being murdered outside a pub.

The worst scenario for us is that his legs have suddenly gone this summer, a la Higdon but I trust CW's scouting much more than Cloughy who I honestly doubt ever saw Higdon play.

Can Clarke handle the pressure? Well again that is for CW to sort out.

There's nothing wrong with short term signings like Clarke as long as...

1) You don't fill the squad with them

2) They're not on daft wages

3) They will contribute for the duration of their contract

A big part of ensuring number 3 is focusing on players who've been performing well recently, ideally in the division you're in. Duffy and Clarke fall into this category.

If we can't afford the younger players who've excelled in this division then it makes sense to sign the older, more affordable ones - especially when we've been in L1 six years and promotion is an urgent requirement. Resale value is not a priority, reliability is.

Clarke, like him or not, will score us goals this season and that is guaranteed. He may be slightly older than we want but it's the experience we have been desperate for for the last 5 years or so. We aren't going to build a team around him because he is going to have to work to get a place in the team just like every other player under Wilder. Would be great to keep Adams too but looks increasingly unlikely at this point. GK, CD, MF & a winger would be the areas I would like to see strengthened but we will have to wait on the ins and outs to see any of them. We are moving in the right direction and putting ourselves in a position to challenge this season, despite some wanting to be continual moaners.

Billy Sharp 15-20 goals a season, Leon Clarke 15-20 goals a season, Matt Done 10-15 goals a season (maybe?), Che Adams 10-15 goals a season, DCL ????

Adams may be going because I think teams above us will take a gamble. Sharpe is a tough cookie, him and Clarke almost came to blows at BDTBL last season, two fiery players, both can score at this level.

Swap McNulty for Done

Swap McNulty for Done

Yep, I knew I was missing someone, even more embarrassing as my mate was chatting to McNulty tonight as well! Top banter with the lad to be honest, ribbing him about Portsmouth, going on loan again and are you trying to grow out your blonde hair!

Competition for places in the attacking positions, selecting players on merit, rotation and a team that can create chances could see us score a lot of goals next season.

Sharpe and Clarke are both greedy when they get in the box, would they ever pass to each other?

No good forward passes when in the box, that's why they score so many. That wouldn't be a concern for me to be honest. It would be if they don't link up in general play though !!!

Totally, how many times have we had players in recent years who you're screaming SHOOT at and they take an extra touch or pass to someone else, too unwilling to take the chance themselves

just been having a look on the coventry city forum about leon clarke. Mixed views on there some don't seem very happy about it others aren't bothered and go on about that they never liked him. Although they seem to go on a lot about how their owners (SISU or something) are screwing the club over refusing to invest in the team etc rather amusing read tbh

I think most of us will agree that CW has 'hit the ground running' (in sharp contrast to Badkins) and has totally transformed the look of the squad. So far, it's been a good summer - a major clear out and some exciting new players. Hopefully all the negativity won't re-surface if/when Che is sold. All these new players will need funding in some way and Hammond will have blown a hole in the amount of money we have to spend.

Well done (so far), Wilder.

Now we've signed him or about to, it's good we have another striker capable of getting on the score sheet on a regular basis.

However, signing Clarke was the easy bit

Hope I'm wrong, but because Wilder takes no shit and Clarke acts like shit, just wondering whether there will be an eventual clash of personalities.

Clock is ticking

For those worrying about Leon Clarke's professionalism or potential lack of, our favourite David Flitroft's words on Leon Clarke might be comforting. I would say just given Clarke's career in the last 5 years or so, he's sorted himself out. Basically after Swindon he lost weight and has scored a one in two or better in League One and that's earned him the move back to Wolves, although sadly for him it didn't work out, probably because they had better forwards. Then back at League One we've seen what he can do at Bury. Can't wait for him to put on a Blades shirt!

And a nice reminder of the ability of McEveley too

Were knill wilder and Clarke together at Bury?

Yes, the thought of Jimmy Greaves and George Best in the same team fills me with dread....

Spackman ?

Err no. Very harsh. If anything Spackman was over-achieving at the club. I'm not sure he had any choice but to resign did he? He was treated appallingly.

McDonald and Green were cunts (and I don't use that word lightly). It wasn't just Fjortoft and Deane being sold (and Hutchinson, and the attempted sale of Gareth Taylor, and....), it was the way they went about it. The story goes that Spackman rang Deane to find out why he was late at training, to be told by Deane that he'd been sent to Lisbon to talk to Benfica!

McDonald and Greene were snakes, nothing was ever their fault. The only time they talked in the press was to twist the knife into a departed player/manager ("Deane asked for a transfer", saying the same about Fjortoft and calling him lazy, saying Spackman quit because he couldn't hack it without Willie Donachie, and so on).

By their own admittance they were in football to make money, in any way possible. They are the sort of people who shouldn't be allowed anywhere near football.
