mine remember going in 4th division was there realy a grass bank or did i imagine it also did a wall collapse ,got in for nowt that day jumped over a fence won 5 1 think edwards got hatrick

I saw Chris Guthrie score a hat trick there in a League Cup game. They must've been really shit back then . . . . .

I think the game in Div4 was Easter Monday but my memory is a bit hazy. I know I fell over (pushed rather than fell) when Kenworthy scored from a free kick and damaged my elbow.

Remember a night game at the Shay, going on the football special train and coming home in carriages without lights as all the bulbs had been 'removed' probably to by thrown at opposing fans!
Chris Guthrie scored (was it a hat trick?)
Other memory was a market stall (metal frame) flying through the air!!!

FOOTBALL SPECIALS them were the days remember going to southend and there was about 50 on it strange thing is dont remember the score and it wasnt when arnott scored that goal either

my dad was in the rubble at the front after the small brick wall gave way,we were chanting hooligan at him all the way back through huddersfield

The Easter game at Halifax was memorable, they took the lead then it was the Keith Edwards show

We went in the wooden main stand, it was roughly half and half Blades/Halifax, no aggro just friendly banter

Saying that remember Blades battling with Leeds fans in that shed on the opposite side

Div 4 game got there early and a family had actually got picnic blanket out on grass bank behind goal chomping on their sarnies .

At that time Halifax were in dire straits ( again ) can remember all the sympathetic Blades coming out chanting " your going bust , we're not "

Remember the wooden stand....don't know how it ever stayed up...worse ground I had ever been to at that point.

We were literally 2 yards behind the wall ,big fuss over nothing to be fair ,everyone was just laughing. Surprised its pay on the day ,hope they are going to cope ,it must have improved massively.

Looking forward to tonight and no doubt I'll be reminiscing to myself of that fabulous day out in 82. Despite falling behind in the first minute there was little doubt in our minds we would win. TK free kick and penalty, 1 from Steve Charles and a brace from King Keith. Like so many games that season it could have been a lot more. You would think a 5-1 romp away from home would have been the stand out away performance of the season but it was easily overshadowed by other games. Tells you just what a fantastic season that was to be a blade. Definitely the best in my lifetime

Maybe around 1915 or so, not sure when;)

Both teams were taken off during a thunder storm, never been heard of before but the weather can brew up round those parts.

Remember it as though it was yesterday but no clue what year. What day was yesterday by the way!!:)

You are indeed right about the grass bank - behind one of the goals from memory.

Lots of Blades there that day.

UTB

I remember a grassy bank but have I got this wrong about speedway?

Ditto I was in the main stand that day, didn't the gates get forced just before kick-off and many Blades got in for nowt? Like many grounds in Div 4 that season, United got what should have been the home end and Halifax fans ended up on the shallow shale banking away end.

Only time I've been back since was a couple of years ago to see Sheffield Eagles in some kind of cup final, tidy little ground these days.

I recall reading in the Star that Guthrie had the unique record in Football league history, of getting a hattrick of headers twice v the same club, Halifax. Ours was a 4 2 win in League cup.
He did it for Southend United too.
