...is Bob Geldof saving kitchens now?

You can never donate too much...just look at all then bands he saved last time..Bananarama...Ure, Sting, Bowie, Queen...etc etc list goes on...

True enough, and it resurrected Queen's career, although Bowie needed no help, he was always great.

As for Sting, I saw this on ITV 2 a few nights ago and couldn't stop laughing.....

Given the reviews of some on here, he's shit and not good enough for a League 1 side... the same people will no doubt be saying that he's a world beater and the club have sold the fans down the river again....

On the evidence I've seen so far, he is shit though and if he's anywhere near our first team this season our recruitment has failed.

If we can get a fee, get on with it. I doubt we'll miss old crazy legs. He's probably our fifth best striker, even though we've only got 3 others!

I would imagine that any youngster in the lower leagues, who is approached (if true) by a premier league club, suddenly has one of those cartoon-type "thought bubbles" appear above his head, with an image of himself sat in a sports car, with a trophy WAG sat next to him, parked outside a Cheshire country mansion, with the butler stood at the side of the car saying "Mr Calvert-Lewin, your financial adviser is on the line, asking where you would like your next million pounds investing, as you have too much in the bank".

I think you're probably right but DCL strikes me as a well grounded lad who would like to play first team first and foremost. That said we just don't know what goes on behind the scenes and for all we know DCL could no be really in Wilder's plans etc.

cant think of any other club where fans have this level of hate

Can you think of another club that has consistently underachieved to the extent we have for the last 6-7 years?

Can you think of a club of comparable size that's won nothing for 91 years?

Can you think of a club that has lied to it's extremely loyal support time after time whilst producing absolute shite on the pitch and still gets 20k through the gates?

Do you think there is something inherent in Sheffield Untied fans that makes them more "hateful" towards their club or do you believe it's a result of years of broken promises and underachievement?

Strange one this. He’s played so little it’s hard to tell whether he’ll make it. He is reasonably quick, over six foot, has a good leap and a decent touch. Those are some seriously useful ingredients in making a good player. What he doesn’t seem to have yet are positional awareness and physical strength and aggression to compete with battle hardened centre halves.

I don’t see him as a first team regular this coming season. More a squad player/ regular sub and playing cup games etc.

I’ve had for a while now a romantic notion that DCL and Che could be the next Deane and Agana if retained and nurtured but realistically, it probably won’t happen and £1million is decent money for a player so unproven and who might well never make it beyond the lower leagues.

If we have to sell one of DCL or Adams for that sort of money, I would be more inclined to sell DCL. If it happens, I hope that frees up the funds for us to build a squad capable of mounting a proper challenge and also means we don’t have to sell Brayford or Adams.

History tells us United will take the money, will it be reinvested in the squad, possibly, will it be invested wisely probably not. The quality of the squad is deteriorating year on year, our extended visit to the 3rd tier and falling position in it confirms that. Can CW change that, still to be convinced.

We have not yet played a game of football under CW,you're a clown

If the money is reinvested in team strengthening then fine.

Key word. IF.

It already will have with the 3 bids in.

I'm guessing of course, but there won't be the DCL transfer fee on top of the 3 bids already out there. The fee will already be spent so to speak imo

So here's the thing, and it's a little hypothetical so bear with me.

DCL goes to Everton and signs a very large contract to make him a millionaire overnight.

Adams, agreed by all to have as much if not more potential than DCL, sees what DCL gets and says...."Hang on, I've got more appearances, more goals and consider myself at least equal to him....think I want to go too"!

I fancy multiplying my salary by 5, and will sulk and stamp my feet til I get it!

So we might not have much choice but to sell Adams as well....and one or two others that see that kind of deal on the table!
Well then we should tell Che to get his agent to find a club that's willing to bid £1m + for him and he can go.

If we turn down Everton and DCL starts stamping his feet because we've stopped him becoming a millionaire what then? What do we do when he tells our kids not to sign new contracts unless there's a release clause or they'll get stitched up like he has?

Yeah but it is a damn fine toaster.....

Honestly my ex boss who was amongst other things a pig with far, far too much disposable income which he liked to flaunt all over the place like the total cockwomble that he was (you'd think working in Derby would get you away from the deluded fuckers but no) was very happy to announce he had paid 400 quid for toaster and a kettle.

All the toaster did was automatically pull down the toast when you pressed a button. Total cock machine.

..I think this toaster malarky will soon be deserving of it's own thread...could be the next Burn... :(

Ms Crab likes Lakeland, last time I went in and looked at Coffee Machines I thought they were having a laugh with some of those prices!

So if this is the case, and all our academy is good for is producing players for the first team that aren't quite up to getting us up, while also producing potentially very good players and selling them before they prove to have the ability to get us up then what is the point of having an academy at costs millions a year to run?

So far, the sale of the Kyles, Maguire and now looking like DCL has barely covered the build costs of the academy, never mind the running of it. We may as well give the job up if we are going to take this stance every time someone waves a few quid at one of our kids.
As for DCL kicking up a stink....the club telling him to knuckle down and make the first team would send a good message to the rest. You have a contract, earn a better one.

Of the forwards we have we are poor in the air - DCL is possibly the best in the air but he is way off being good enough to be a first choice starter. I suspect we are potless and, if the money is all upfront with a sell-on percentage clause attached, it could represent reasonable business as we have gaping holes to fill in the rest of the team and not the money to fill them. This would rather shoot this "half the side from the academy" malarky in the foot though.

Your plan falls down here because it optimistically pre-supposes that the proceeds would be given to Tufty to purchase some decent players for the squad ........ o_O

UTB & FTP

This is what I hate about the premiership, chucking a million quid on an unproven youngster is loose change. The article proudly proclaims all the lower league youngsters that Everton have snapped up. It is easy to mop up all the potential talent and then simply discard it if it does not materialise, meanwhile the lower league clubs get a fraction of the final worth with a gradually diminishing quality of their squads.

We all know what will happen, the merest whiff of a cheeky mill and big Kev will roll out the usual tired lines about, "Can't stand in thier way" blah, blah, blah. "Will reinvest.........in January" Blah Blah Blah. We will see bugger all invested in the squad and the cycle rolls on.

Trevor Francis £1m to DCL £1M how the world has changed (gone mental).

They should say the same to Che then.

DCL's market value probably is about a million. Just because we've previously undersold our best players, Murphy and Maguire for paltry sums doesn't mean he's worth any less. We should be held out for at least £5m for Maguire for one.
It's 2016 and footballers are expensive. Get with it

I see your point, but I don't see the logic in losing players deemed by Wilder as first team squad and making an already less than thread bare squad even smaller. Especially with so many on the list and already deemed not part of future plans. Especially Adams who is the flair and creativity we lack.

I understand we can only get rid of those on the list if people are prepared to take them, but we need 5 minimum as it is. Selling 1 or two more from the squad is making the problem worse, and we know too well the huge failings the club has in recruitment...and still has it seems bearing in mind we are losing many of our targets to rival teams.

Only one we seem to be clinging to is McFadz...because he wants to play for his hometown team!

Had to read that several times...are you saying that Adams has flair and creativity?
I think those are two of the last things i'd associate with him.

Knowing us it will be £1million in installments over 30 years with the first payment in 2 years time only if DCL plays a match for them. Also no sell on clause and we have to pay for his journey there.
Hmm , Everton ? Hmm !
Didn't they once send us a defective product called John Ebbrell for £1m and he broke beyond repair after 45 minutes of first game ? But when we rang them they said he was not under guarantee.
Didn't they get Hans Segers to throw the ball in his own net 3 times after they were 2-0 down at home to Wimbledon and heading for relegation themselves , such that we got relegated in their stead , in 1994 , by conceding in the last minute at Stamford Bridge ?
Didn't they lift a player called Jagielka from us after he'd conveniently and inexplicably handled the ball and given away a penalty which another ex-Evertonian Rhino called Unsworth despatched to relegate us one terrible day in 2007 when grown men shed tears ?
And didn't they pay us £4m , at the same time that Man City were paying £18m for Lescott , a lesser player ?
I'd be fucking careful dealing with Everton !
Especially if I was as useless at running a football club as Sir Kevin McIncapable.

Simply not true. The initial build cost was around £5M of which £800K was a grant:-

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/2511663.stm

Naughton, Walker, Maguire, Lowton, Slew have been sold for circa £16.5M since 2009 plus the value of players on the books (e.g. DCL)

Fair enough Sothall, I stand corrected.

though my point remains that we may as well wrap it up if all the good players are sold before being any use to the team.
At least Southampton play their talent for a season or two before selling and reap some benefit from them.
