League 1 Signings

Wilder in the press today talking about loan signings....looking a very familiar story.....he then says nothing will happen until premier league sides decide who they want to release.

Yesterday Oxford announced a season long loan for Dan Crowley from Arsenal, about to turn 19 and played for England youth and Barnsley on loan last year. They are also getting a couple more Arsenal players in to look around and see if they want to join on loan.

I'm a bit worried there's a lot of hot air down at the Lane and not a lot of action.

You may well be correct, but it could also be summed up as there's a lot of valuable contracts draining the resources at the Lane and therefore not a lot of money.

Not that I know a lot but an Arsenal youth must cost something in the way of contribution to wages etc.?

I'm sure the first pre-season game in a week's time will be hilarious at this rate. Tea lady and groundsman at CB?

If either of our last two managers had changed their tune and backtracked so much they would be getting lambasted on here. He's only been in the job for a few weeks and we've gone from 5/6 in for start of pre-season and more if we can moved players on to waiting for loans. Wilder appears to get a free pass because he's a Blade.

Weve had Man Utd youth before and look where that got us. Just because a player is at a big club doesn't mean he is any good ,for every Afobe there are 20 Cofies.

Talk about changing tunes ,fucking hell are you a manic depressive or what ?

Michael Twiss!

I believe Warnock rubbed Sir Alex up the wrong way so they just dumped their crap on us.

It's about youth scouting and being able to identify young players who will be able to do a job in this league. MK Dons and Swindon seem to be good at doing it. We really don't.

Michael Twiss was a Steve Bruce signing.

Not abusing you it just seems every post you make is a real downer on Utd.

That's nothing like manic depression, hence the confusion.

I want us to win the league. I want Wilder to take us up. I want Paul Coutts to suddenly become a good footballer.

Come kick-off I'll be fully behind the team. However, the weekly changing of tune by Wilder is making me suspect that we're more likely to be fighting off relegation than going for promotion. Do you not think it's ridiculous that in 6 weeks what he's saying has changed so much? I dread to think what he'll be saying come the end of August at this rate. It's all seems to be going a bit Micky Adams, but we'll see.

I just want to be told the truth. Instead of all this smoke and mirrors. If we have no money we should have been told this at the very start. It's all about Kev flogging season tickets then subsequently proceeding to sign no players since 1st June. We have a friendly in a week and don't have 1 pro CB. It's pretty obvious Wilder didn't expect to be in this situation so something's up.

Hasn't Bruno Ribeiro just taken over there? Doesn't look like he's spent much time in France playing or managing, but presumably he has contacts there or he's just raided the frees in the lower divisions

Brings a smile to the face when you think how the Jonny Foreigner will play on a cold night in Port Vale . Bit of a differance to the South of France . May have signed a load of Diegos.

  • Slow movement has been the case across the league.
No club in league 1 has done less business than us, so that comment is utter bollocks. Wilder is getting a lot of good will 'because he's a Blade and wouldn't lie to us' whilst talking more guff than any other recent manager in such a short space of time. I want him to take us up but he's annoying me more than both Nigels after just over a month. Then again it seems the majority on here voted leave so it's unsurprising many believe anything they're told.

Again, all rubbish players!

It's funny how people we don;t sign are suddenly classed as rubbish despite many being 'wanted' previously.

Although three of the five on that list come from Dutch clubs.

Remind me which of those players you have seen play more than once who you want us to sign

My point was criticising someone who writes them all off as rubbish (despite failing to meet the same criteria no doubt).

There are several players there who would be good signings. Which players have you seen more than once that you want us to sign?

Adding the Tea Lady and groundsman to last season's squad could have had us finishing at least one spot higher in the table.

for the second time which of those players have you seen play more than once that you would like us to sign.

Hutchinson
Novak
Worrall
Downing

For the second time, who have you seen more than twice that you want us to sign?

. I have seen about ten of those at least twice including 3 of those you mention (only seen Downing once) and not convinced any would be worth signing. Admittedly I have only seen Hussey once so I have no idea if he is a good signing or not

I would have liked us to sign Anthony Kay as one of our squad centre halfs provided we signed amother experienced centre half along side him.. Experienced. Knows the division and would help.Semple develop.

Worrall would be solid and reliable wide man. Can play both sides and cover right back.
Novak would add more fight upfront, largely from the bench. He can also play out side at a push
The other two are solid young CBs with their best years ahead of them

It's not about how many you sign it's about the quality we bring in. Clough brought 10 bang average players in which got us knowhere. Some we are still trying to offload. We may not get all our targets but as long as they are quality and keeps us heading in the right direction I'm happy

We were excellent in pre-season last year before getting thumped at Gillingham. Pre-season is all about fitness, tactics etc. I couldn't care less as long as we have a team ready for Bolton away

The idea behind this thread is just to keep an eye on what's happening with other teams in League 1 because I don't feel we're in a position, after 5 years, to assume we can go up if we sign a few decent players.

My comment was a reaction to what Chris said at the fan's meeting. We probably need to sign more players than almost every other club yet there's no other club which has done less business than us.

With only signing Duffy and Hussey so far (in theory good but ageing and decent) I'm not exactly convinced we're going in the right direction.

I think the league will be harder this year than last.

Pre-season is about fitness and gelling together as a team. We can't gell together as a team if we don;t have a team!
