Do you mean Dennis Finnigan? He was a defender. Jack ? Parks scored a lot in the Central League but I can't remember him playing for the first team.
I meant Finnigan pressed wrong
button (easy done with my smart phone) he was a centre half and rarely got a first team chance. He was tried at centre forward in the reserves but was never good enough
to make it work in the first team.

Delighted with Knill's comment about quick thinkers. That and quick, clever feet are far more important than raw pace. That Luton Shelton, he was bloody quick.....

I always quite liked Luton Shelton though he could be very frustrating. I thought with experience and coaching, he could be a very good player. Remember reading Pep Guardiola’s comments about him being the main threat when Barca played Valarenga in the champions league. Those sorts of players are at least handy impact subs.

4-2-3-1 would suit Done and Adams to a tee. Sharp will be fine in that formation.

Duffy is essentially a winger is he not? Looks a worker though and will adapt.

In the three an interchageing Done, Adams and Duffy, looks great. Wish Baxter had behaved himself, he'd have a field day in that formation. Scougall can play there, in fact maybe better than Adams IMO.

As for McNulty, I'll never forget what Fulwood once said " he can be anything he wants to be". At the time I thought, I know what you mean, BUT, what about general play/ team play. McNults is the calmest goalscorer ,given the final opportunity of putting it in the net, I have seen since Edwards. That instinct/ natural gift is exceptional and should be built upon.

Could play as the front 1 if Sharp is out injured.

If that’s how we go, I think I’d play Done on the right and Duffy on the left. Both cutting in towards goal rather than driving to the byline. Done had looked far better as an inside right forward than as an out and out left winger and our full backs would relish the space created by those two cutting inside.

Love it Pinchy. who would you have in mind?

Here lies the conundrum. Those players are extremely difficult to come by at this level. O Grady had a lot of good attributes but wasn’t prolific. If Cresswell was younger he would have been good for the role (and was still OK for a bit). Garner was good for Preston. Very good all round forward. But the only way to get one at this level is before they become proven. Akinde looks promising and is one I’d like us to sign. I’d hoped Lyle Taylor would fit the bill when we signed him but it wasn’t to be (though he’s coming back strong now he’s a bit older).

Have no recollection of him playing up front though I was only a kid and lived near the Lane so reserve games were a regular thing.

Yes he had a spell in the reserves
Playing centre forward and scored a fair few goals it didn't last but for a short time he was scoring for fun.
It was John Harris experiment Denis
didn't have the nous to make it work at 1st team level.
I used to live on the same road as him (bates St,sheff10) he died at a very young age only 44,he was a part timer and worked as a porter at the
Hospital,nice fellow was Denis.

He was also a rock hard fucker on the field of play and the training ground. I had the cuts and bruises to bear that out!

He was 54 when he died. Died watching a match at Hillsborough. He scored 14 goals in a spell in 1964 for the reserves including a hat trick of headers in a match

Correction: He went to Halifax in Sept 1966 where he played 40 games scoring 14 goals
Correct Silent , Jack could never repeat his scoring feats in Northern Intermediate at 1st team level in higher leagues.
Loved him when he played in juniors and was convinced he'd make grade. What did I know!

Didn't he score quite a few for the reserves though, or is it false memory syndrome on my part?

Yes I got it wrong silent he lived at 44 Bates street but as you say 54 is quite young.Saw most of his goals for the reserves,it was humorous at the time
as he had the reputation as a clogged not much of a foot Aller. He also wore old fashion boots which had the stiff high ankle protectorsf
