If he signs for us there will be a big sell on clause and guess what?

Charlton are the club that have bid for him. Not Sheffield United according to BBC radio Northampton

A player from another club and is nothing to do with Sheffield United puts in a transfer request and you put it in general blades chat ( I assume based on a RUMOUR from one or two fans- that we might or might not be interested)

I go on general blades chat to read about the blades and go on rumours or other sport to read stuff like this which is why the sections are there.

Is it difficult for you to understand this or are you wanting to turn this forum into Blades Mad ?

tufty to McCabe - kev, I know when I took the job I said we would bring some value in but there is this player who is nearly 30 and hasn't played a game in the 1st division, but I think we should spend 750k on him. No resale value but you've done it before...

Kev, are you there?

Need to turn the volume up, as I don't understand?

Just the news yesterday that all the formal bids made for Holmes had been made by Charlton. Disappointing that, Chris having known his qualities, we didn't even compete.

Got the nagging worry that all our signings will end up being frees and out of contracts. But, early days yet. We'll see...

My apologies my source was convinced he was going to sign I will be more careful with him in future

Northampton Chairman said he wanted to moved closer to home or stay at Northampton. What do you think the chances of him wanting to move north were, and do you think Wilder would have been privy to this information?

Chris, having known his qualities, might think either (i) he's not good enough for us, (ii) he's not worth the fee, (iii) he might not have wanted to bid for him or (iv) Every single one of them.

Personally I would prefer Harry Chapman from Boro, a guy very similar in position to Holmes and on the way up. Barnsley fans raved about hm last season until it seems like ran out of steam. If we do have any money I would prefer we spend it on positions of needs, CB and CM and the rest can be filled in with loans.

EDIT : Harry Chapman on loan that is

Each of them possibilities of course. In the same way that "Chris wasn't able to make a bid because we'll not be paying out on transfer fees" is.

We just don't know at this stage. Presumably we'll have more of an idea over the next couple of weeks though. The transfer scene's suddenly heated up today and it looks like things have started to get seriously interesting now.

Hopefully we're not approaching the season in a ridiculously cheapskate way & we'll soon become one of the clubs involved the interesting transfer activity.

Bit like free agency in the NFL. Let others get overpayed in the first few weeks
