There are two clubs in Sheffield. It goes without saying one is bigger than the other. It's debatable which one that is, within the city. But Barnsley is a one club village (running water and electricity will be along shortly). You should always dominate, yet the South Barnsley massive take the honours.

But they remain the bigger of the two clubs in your city and it would take a prolonged and successful stay in the Premier League for you to even close that gap. In my opinion. Sorry but there are large numbers of Wendy supporters in Barnsley particularly in the south and pit villages too. I worked primarily in Barnsley for a good few years and they were rife. It's well known that many decades ago buses ran from Barnsley to Swillsborough on a match day and in the days of going to watch united one week and Wednesday next it often happened with the tykes and the unclean. Even now I know of at least a dozen people from Barnsley who support them and I'm a rare visitor nowadays. They are the first to admit that there are a fair few of them

There’s plenty of pork in those murky areas that lie close to the borders of North Sheffield/ South Barnsley (Stocksbridge, Penistone, Chapeltown, High Green, Deepcar, Thurgoland, Thurlston etc.) As you get further into Barnsley, I think the blue and white contingent significantly dilutes and most Barnsley fans dislike the pigs about as much as they dislike us. In both cases, it’s significantly more than United or Wednesday dislike Barnsley.

I’m happy to discuss football with other fans that wish to post on this forum. You’ll see plenty of discussion with a Worcester fans and a Northampton fan as well as a Burton Albion/Nigel Clough fan on here. It’s not being a supporter of another club causes the insults. It’s not even being from a dirty backwater shithole like Barnsley (well, not directly anyway). It’s the pathetic, thinly veiled crowing which says very little in a long and drawn out way. It’s all indicative of a spotty teenager with too much time on his hands who has become a bit giddy at the arrival of the internet in his village.


Nothing against your team by the way. In fact, I admire the way the club have committed to building with young players and that they held their nerve when the club were bottom with so many villagers getting their six fingers stuck in their rotary dial phones to spew bile on football heaven. Well done Ben Mansford, Lee Johnson and latterly Paul Heckingbotham.

Good on 'em I say. Was speaking to a dingle colleague yesterday who is worried about them going up; he thinks they're not ready for it. Can't see a succesful season ahead for 'em in all honesty.

I think it will be very tough for them in the championship with the lack of experience they have both in the playing staff and management. But that doesn’t take away from the season they’ve had and what an achievement it has been for them. If they manage to get Fletcher back and keep Hammil, they might even have a chance of staying up.
