Just saying he can shoot, not that he has a good track record :)

Maybe this is an area of his game where he can improve... but anyway if he can get back to bursting forward and causing defences problems I reckon he'll create goals for other players.

Personally I think his form since April 2014 is his true talent level, and he'll never contribute such that he's worth a place in a promotion chasing team, but I'd love to be proved wrong.

Could go either way, really. Sensible thing would be to give him a chance and reassess in January - if he's still off the boil by then, get rid by all means.
 
Scougal is a lucky boy to be given another chance. He did nothing last year - and didnt take his chance in the first team when given it.

Dont get me wrong, I dont dislike him and I think he has something to offer - but he was lucky not to be transfer listed. There were players who contributed way more last year - who ended up being shown the door.

Was he ever played in the right position last season? He's another 'specialist' CM, ok in a three when he's playing in the hole with two behind him (one supporting/overlapping, one holding) but played anywhere else, a bit shit.
 
Get rid, he has had enough chances. Doesn't contribute a great deal and only really fits into a 5 man midfield. Dribbling 10 yards and passing it sideways along with a bit of chasing/closing down isn't enough. Can't be classed an attacking midfielder when he seems to be incapable of threading a decent ball through to a striker or muster the strength to strike with any real power.
 
He's worth keeping. Has shown what he can do and is still young. I doubt he earns a massive salary in football terms either. As long as he can stay fit I'm happy for him to stay.
 
Doesn't score. Doesn't get assists. Never puts in a tackle (despite running around a lot). Nippy, but can easily be caught over 10 yards. Cannot win headers (bit obvious that one). What is the point of playing him - nuisance value?
 
Scougall will get found out by Wilder.
He's not what we need.
He will be out on loan to some no mark outfit .
 
in Scougall's first half season with us when he did well he played in an advanced role and did well. Since then, he has not. Going to give him the benefit of the doubt

IF we keep him, the only sensible thing to do is loan him out for the season and if we get promoted, give him a chance in the Championship where he'll get more protection from referees.

He has evidenced that he can't be consistent and effective in this agricultural Division .....

He's been playing in a shit team whenever he's had the chance. Players like that can flourish when they get protection from their team mates.
 
I can tell you first hand he's not happy about not playing, and he thought that he wasn't getting picked because he wasn't tall enough, as did another one who also hasn't been released, put a nasty fucker next to him and reed and you will see what they can do, yes they get bullied, but clearly have enough for this division....

He has been playing in a shit team, you're correct ...... but he needs protection from referees to flourish and that's never going to happen in this agricultural Division ....... therefore he and Reed, are not likely to be effective and consistent in L1.

We need players who are both effective and consistent to escape our self-imposed exile .....

I think it shows a difference between Wilder and Adkins that Scougall has been given another chance, while Coutts has been transfer listed straight away. Wilder will want players who can run, quickly, often and for long, for his high tempo style. We'll have to see if Scougall can take that chance, but for me it shows that Wilder has a clear idea of what's required from the players and won't be sticking with some individuals who make us vulnerable, even if they're decent at certain things.
 
Scougall played well for Fleetwood by all accounts so that will have gone in his favour, as will the fact he doesn't look knackered after 60 mins which was true of most of our midfield last season (Hammond, Coutts,Flynn especially). Wilder, according to the Stir, has got time for him so we shall have to see. For us last season (and the last few months of Clough) he seemed to lack confidence and hid, didn't seem to want the ball. I can't see him playing effectively in a midfield 4. Number 10 role perhaps. His physique is against him and, if he is to play in an attacking midfield role, he will have to do something about his finishing which is about as accurate as Basham's heading and passing.

True. I wonder though whether we could play Billy as a lone striker? There's a couple in Aguerro and Defoe, that spring to mind; little blokes who'd you'd think couldn't do that role and need a partner. Allardyce recently said he'd been 'brainwashed' into thinking Defoe couldn't play as a lone striker at West Ham and made a mistake in letting him go.
Billy did it with Donny and he's more experienced since then and playing a division lower.

Not that I'd do it just to accommodate Scougall

Blimey , at one time we were not satisfied or content with mid table championship . Now we would settle just to be in the championship . ( this would only be for one season , and if we didn't get promotion to the premiership , we would again sack the manager )

What's mention of promotion doing in a Scougal thread?
 
As we're waiting on new arrivals, Scougall and McNulty returning effectively means we have four "new" additions, and Done returning to an attacking position is a fifth.

I think Blades fans need to get used to a completely new playing style this season, and we should give alle players a clean slate. Some on here are already struggling in this respect. The roles, the positions, the philosophy, the team balance will be very different. A wide man, for example, may not be quite the same as it has been. Let's hope the individual players take their chances and that Wilder gets the balance right.

I agree and Scougall can become a key man IF Wilder can get him to believe he is as good as he could be.

Scougall has to persuade himself to take responsibility and produce key moments and not back away whenever opportunities arise. It's all between his ears because he has ability.
 
Scougall was a good example of Adkins' complete failure to do any background work on the squad. Completely hopeless out wide, not good enough for a midfield 4, everyone and their mum knows that. He can play in a 3-man central midfield or just off a striker, same applied to Baxter really. Instead they were both played out of position and when we finally switched tactics to have three in the middle, neither were here.

Hopefully his fresh start plays to his strengths, even if it's just as an impact sub.

How many slates do some of our players need, most of them need showing the door.
