McCabe on DoF

He sniffs a bit. Waffles a bit. Then says we're not having a DoF because we'll have a technical board.

I'd suggest a DoF would chair such a group, but as it is, it's not at all clear where final responsibility lies for football strategy. So no change there.

No. He is not going to employ a DoF.

The technical Board will be:

Owner rep(s)
Manager (and maybe rep)
Football administrator
Academy rep - seemingly in place to shoot down any potential transfer with 'little jonny can play left back!'

It's staggering that our chairman should now have the revelation that a league 1 team should pay league 1 wages with incentives for promotion. Revolutionary foresight!

A technical board. Just like Liverpool had under Rodgers. Or Villa and Newcastle have.

So instead of finding one person who knows what he's doing (which has proved almost impossible for us so far) you have to find several.

Has anyone ever had to work under a committee? I have and I found it soul destroying as every meeting the same shit was discussed, with the different stakeholders and their different agendas, all conflicting, all refusing to budge and all wanting things well beyond the budget.

Can't wait til Travis says 'x can play....' and Wilder turns round and says 'no he fucking can't'.

It strikes me, listening to that interview, that he's just looked at what Premiership clubs do (or even one club) and decided to mimic it. It makes no sense to have an Academy rep. We're in league 1. We're not Chelsea with 80 odd development players all around the world on our books!

Exactly. If Wilder doesn't know which kids are good enough he shouldn't be in the job. It's like KM refuses to accept we haven't got many who can step up right now. I used to work with a kid who'd ask you how to do something, argue if he didn't like it 'can't we just....' and then go and ask other people the same fucking question in the hope that one of them will tell him to do it how he wants instead of doing it properly. I seriously lost patience with the little cunt.

I get the impression KM is doing something similar.

I do hope that young Travis does not get above his station , with all this adulation and new power . I would hate to see him with a cut lip and black eye . Wilder is the ultimate boss over all things football .

What we have to watch with this supposedly football technical committee is too many cooks.

Is McCabe again not seeing wood for trees and creating too many chiefs and not enough Indians .

Chris Wilder to me , seems the only fella who knows about football .

Haven't we all. Most annoying people.

If he wants 5 people on it, there are 4 who will be solely interested in pleasing him. I can understand it when you're planning signings say in October for January (how we laughed) but when you need many against the clock then I don't see how decisions are going to go through quickly.

If you've ever tried to organise meetings, you'll know how difficult it is to get everyone in the same room.

There's always one middle manager who sits at his computer saying 'yeah, I've just got to finish this' like he's really important and you just want to say 'this meeting's been in your diary for a week, learn to manage your time so you're not wasting other people's you prick'.

or like the pigs have and most other football clubs have now

Whats wrong with good old fashioned Chief Exec? Same job as but less divisive.

He waffles a lot then basically says no, agreed.

What concerns me is the order in which he speaks about the technical board. He speaks in order of his perceived importance in my opinion, he perceives the key players to be:

Manger reps
Football administrator
Then the manager, in that order, as an almost afterthought.

Worrying. I stand by what I've posted elsewhere of late - I'm not fooled by the optimism generated by Wilder's appointment. It has the potential to be a false dawn, very little appears to have changed at the top of the club and if owt, they're getting more stringent with their cash - Christ. He long has had, and continues to appear to have an "I know best and you're just the peasants in the terraces" mentality. He's quite clearly shown, time and time again, that he doesn't know best.

Nothing new here. He said at the fans' forum the board had considered it and for now didn't think there was anyone both qualified and available.

I think he said:
Owner rep and that it could be more than one - I assumed that meant him and the Prince
Head of football admin, with respect to player contracts - Stephen Bettis?
Manager
Academy Manager

Sounds to me like we are making a Bollox of it all and we haven't even got out of May yet.

I wonder If CW is thinking he has made a monumental blunder coming here already?

So not a 'technical committee' as such, just a meeting between the parties that should be involved plus Travis.

Wilder says 'I want X'. The accountant says whether we can afford it or not, the owners' reps then make the final decision.

Wendy tried this at the back end of the 2014-15 season. Adam Pearson and Glen Roeder to 'assist' Stuart Gray. Both didn't last two minutes before they were gone. And then Wendy's form picked up...

Just wondering? - Anyone know of any other DoF set-ups at other clubs in the division? Or whether clubs we might want to emulate have had DoFs?

(I ask because I don't really know of any examples, of how it's worked out in practice.)

yeah, sounds reasonable to me. Not a procrastinating bureaucracy but some basic controls in place that we obviously didn't have when Clough went mad bring loads of dross in.

Wilder says we want x player , as he will make the difference . Travis and the rest say no . We don't speculate to accumulate . The concern is Wilder gets frustrated as we are . Time will tell , but time and tide waits for no man , especially us , we have to get the right players , right blend to escape this league . Hope the technical board realise that and don't have there own individual agendas . Hope young Travis is sensible and does not get above his station with dreams and ambitions .

UTB and Wilder.
