are these the arthurs that write plays
it dawned your thought process last night , slagging me off for using an u for an r , a one letter mistake then you saying he wrote books , but not using the o in author
a one letter mistake
that you found humourous
amazing how easily pleased you are
I thought a student of english language would baulk at using a misspelt word
thats why it whooshed , mocking my mistake with a word with a mistake in it
pretty pathetic

As haiku's go, I've seen better.

Worst nightmare would be if he doesn't release ALL the out-of contract players and doesn't transfer list Woolford, Coutts, Scougal and J Wallace.

He needs to start as he means to go on and steadfastly refuse to accept mediocrity and insist on 110% from all players in a Blades shirt !

If he starts like this then he will have my backing for the next 12 months and we'll see what he's learned in his apprenticeship .........

what my hope is he in adversity at northampton has stumbled on the correct formula to get players motivated
our biggest shortfall has been the passion in the team that drags we supporters along with it
we have become apathetic at games , we havent had our football erogenous zones tickled of late

Chris Wilder decides that Ched Evans deserves a starting berth alongside Marlon King. New Forward Coach Ashley Ward talks long and hard with Midfield coach Bruno Ribero about keeping players fitter for longer, while returning Head Scout Chris Morgan kills Pinchy in a car park brawl. However, new incoming Director of traffic Sam(antha) Hashimi says we are no longer a selling club but gets caught round the back of cesars selling Billy Sharp for a wrap and a gobble.

New Imperial Commander Kevin McCabe reveals himself as WWF saying "this hurts me as much as anyone else" while being torn a new hole from behind by Paul Woolhouse with a 18" black strap on, with Carlo Carlombotti looking on for japes.

And you thought it was bad now?

we were in a higher league , it wasnt as desperate

And Wilder has been plying his trade lower down than Warnock. Don't think the two are comparable really. Wilder's achieved less than Warnock had and achieved that less at a lower level.

I said this a while ago when his name was bandied about with the Sun Jihai posts, but the criteria for the last manager was someone with a proven record of success at this level and the next. Picking Wilder just shows that after a season our board want to take the appointment in yet another different direction. And then no doubt they'll insist that they're looking for consistency.

Everyone is on a clean slate while I assess them between now and Christmas, or Easter, or next summer, mmmmm

all managers progress at different speeds , Wilders done it the old fashioned way , from non league , got Oxford back up and consolidated them then took northampton out of the doldrums
We have just tried someone with a promotion out of this league and it was a miserable failure, Wilson had took a team to the prem , neither achieved what we wanted ,Lets see if Wilder can continue his upward swing with us

Wilder appoints McEveley captain!...

Go on, tell us your possible Worst Nightmare.

What news item would immediately puncture any feelgood factor surrounding Wilder's appointment?

Well, I can’t say I have any “feel-good factor” about the appointment anyway. Not a slight on CW, just completely disillusioned by the powers that be at BDTBL.

But I suppose a signing like Marc Richards would be an ominous sign. Or a statement that everyone starts with a clean slate?

"So Chris, how do you see the team setting up next season?"

"Well Andy, I think in Dean Hammond and Paul Coutts playing as a central 2 in a 4-4-2 formation, we have the skill, determination, pace and commitment to match anybody in this division. And in Martin Woolford and Connor Sammon, we have the supply and goals we will need"

Don’t you mean 1 4 4 2?

Also took Warnock half a dozen years to do anything with us.

Also worth noting Bassett couldn’t keep us up with another man’s squad.

Suppose neither of them were “decent managers” because I keep hearing that they achieve their objectives regardless of circumstances. Good job we didn’t have that view back then.

I appreciate the sentiment here but it seems as if there’s a perception that Adkins, Clough, Weir etc. just said “don’t worry lads you don’t have to give 110%, just try as hard as you fancy”. Clough and Adkins were hammered for changing teams every week but when these wankers are so inconsistent and only decide to even put the effort in for the odd game here and there before slipping back into their old lacklustre ways then it’s easy to see why players were getting dropped every couple of weeks.

Desperate or not, managers are more likely to succeed when given time to build their own squad and then tinker with it to try to improve year on year. Warnock appeared to have taken us backwards in 2004 and could have easily been sacked but we stuck with him and he got it right.

We didn’t do that because we weren’t bothered if we got promoted or not. We did it because our best chance of promotion was to let him continue to strengthen and build on what he had regardless of the odd indifferent season.

I’m disappointed you didn’t manage to work Mike Macdonald into that scenario somehow.

Absolutely. They just listen to the loudest moans from a section of the support and try to find someone that embodies that with little or no thought to developing any sort of footballing strategy.

Overpaid journeymen = Let’s play the kids and sign up and coming players

Lack of passion = Let’s appoint a bladey blade to give em a good kick up arse.

Players don’t care= name Billy Blade club captain before meeting any of the squad or knowing anything about their character.

Absolutely no thought about a player recruitment strategy, continuity in desired style of play etc. Just whoever will shut the loudest complainants up for a bit so Kev can relax for a while.

And when he fails sack him next May and give Brian the Blade a go as we’ve not tried that yet either.

So because Adkins failed, with certain mitigating factors, that means the board should go a different direction entirely with the new manager?

Because that's my point, really. That they had criteria for the last selection and now they've gone with someone who didn't fit that mould at all. Wilder gets a chance from me like anyone who joins the club would, but his appointment is still a clear sign that the board remains confused as to what it actually wants and is still appointing managers arbitrarily in hope that they get lucky. I hope they do, I'd just prefer judgement over luck.

If we were 'stuck' in the top half of division two but not challenging for a play off spot I'm sure both Clough and Adkins would still be here.

11th in the third - goodbye

It's not that Warnock and Bassett weren't decent managers. They're both a sign that chucking out someone with a record like Adkins for yet another change of course in management might be short sighted.

If Adkins were saying to the board the type of thing he was saying to the fans (Hammond's a good signing, we're playing well and getting unlucky and so on) then I'm not sorry to see him go. All I'm after is some indication that the board has a long term strategy.

I'm not criticising Warnock or Bassett at all. They have been the 2 most successful managers in my lifetime. My point was that they were successful because they were given time to be. That's what clubs need to do when they hire a decent manager. The 12 month turnover means it could be a very long time before we can look back on another manager as a success.
