Starting with Hammond and Woolford I suppose. There is sharp also but which of Cloughs players would he keep and you'd be satisfied with, Che?
I'd also keep..........ermmmmmm........I'.m stuck, I'll get back to you Boo. :)

No it's not! It's about a ridiculous decision to sack a manager after one full season when he improved on the season before bearing in mind he came in half way through when we were in total meltdown. Obviously to the people who genuinely hate clough the cup runs which will have brought a few million into the club are not allowed to be used in the argument.
This thread isn't about sacking Adkins to be fair I think the majority would accept giving him another year the same people who thought clough should have got another year.
The way people talk about clough is astounding we have had managers who have relegated us who doesn't get the amount of hatred clough does. Micky Adams is a saint compared to clough. Wonder how clough will get blamed next year if we don't have a good season?
I can't remember anyone saying anything in the same lines as what Clough has had said about him, then this being remotely compared to Micky Adams.

Well firstly, I doubt that anyone favourably compares Micky Adams to anyone. He was a complete disaster, and if people don't mention him much it's because the memories are too horrible.
And whatever happens next season, Clough is no longer a factor.

My position, despite certain perceptions is not actually "pro-Adkins", it's about putting what's happened this season in the context of the circumstances which preceded it.
People unfortunately, only see what's in front of them, ignoring all other factors.

Excuse my ignorance, and I might be completely wrong, but surely that's a matter for the clubs and not him?
His pay slips still have his parent club's name on them? Unless he sets up a direct debit and pays us?

Its up to him. If he wants to facilitate the move its in his interest to sign the altered loan agreement. This transfer dragged on and on as there's little doubt Adkin's wanted the club to find the money (50%). He wanted Hammond to start the season with a pre season at SUFC - I thought it'd happen early August. Its fairly common for players to facilitate these type of moves. Some of its just creative accounting to help clubs get around SCMP.

The worse financial decision the club has made since Robson. Hopefully the "non footballing reasons" will be revealed in the fullness of time (very dangerous ground). I'd honestly rather have Megson and "ra****" Ron managing the Blades. Hopefully McCabe keeps a much closer eye on the club henceforth. The people claiming that Hammond is on 20k are miles away btw. Try less than half. Its cost him 2k a week to play for our club and I genuinely feel sorry for an honest pro, doing his best and getting pelters (obviously his legs have gone).
Explains his absence at the lap of appreciation. While he was a disappointment, I do think the abuse was too far as he at least gave it everything unlike many others. This non footballing reasons is getting very odd. I originally thought it was just a fall out but 'very dangerous ground'?! Christ :/ Hope we find out someday.

You act as if you're very much in the know. Hiding behind a forum user name.

You're throwing around all kind of insinuations. Why don't you stop being a coward and either post what you know on the forum, or PM me and I'll check whether you're spouting shite or telling the truth.

Very dangerous ground? Get some balls and either put it out there fully or shut up with the cowardly inferences.

If you're right with your information then you're not on dangerous ground at all. If Clough has done something wrong and you or your contacts have evidence/proof what's to fear about putting it into the public domain?

Hello all, I'm at a loss to understand this thread, it's way too long for me to read everything, but I don't have the time or the inclination,so I apologise if what I say has been said and argued against. I was OK with the sacking of Cloughie, I would probably have given him another year, but when it happened and Adkins stepped I was was fine. But Cloughie doesn't deserve all this abuse. How did he sign all the players, was there no one writing the checks and negotiating the deals, if it was only Cloughie, then he's gone even further up in my views. He had a side that could play at a higher level than League 1, unfortunately we were in League 1, so he had to find a way to win with that side. BUT, I firmly believe if we had gotten promotion, we would have been strong in the Championship, but alas, we are where we are. The football this year has been farcical at times, I have gone from angry, to despondent, to going home with a smile 'cos I can't imagine how it can get any worse. I've watched us go down to the 4th division, I watched us get promotion to the Premiership, I will watch them in League 1, because Sheffield United are my team, the 11 players will come and go as will mangers etc, but SUFC will remain. Cloughie can't take all the blame, as he can't take all the credit for taking Burton up, but he did get them over the line, who cares how many defenders he brought on, he got the point, and we are were we are. Move on

Ignore that point pal, it's just another example of a fool who hasn't got a clue what they're talking about, making stuff up thinking it's/they're clever.

Trying to pass their bullshit off as fact.

He didn't bring any defenders on at all. Not when Donnie had 11, 10 or even 9 players on the pitch.

He brought on Callum Butcher an attacking midfielder for the injured Stuart Beavon and he brought on Robbie Weir, a central midfielder for Tom Naylor, a central midfielder.

Name one Clough signing that has left us for richer pastures?
How many of Clough's signings are playing for clubs below where we finished this season?
Clough's full season was the worst i've seen in football, skill/entertainment in 40+ years of watching SUFC.

Adkins has failed to deliver this season. The playing squad he was left with, barring one signing and one left over from Clough's era, has been dismal.

Clough deserves all the abuse, if not more, for the way, he left this club.
No one can convince me otherwise.
Congratulating Clough... what for?

Sick and tired of "congratulating" ex-managers who don't give a fuck about Sheffield United.
Sheffield United. Our Club.
Fuck him...

Are all these midfielders under 5 foot 8 and built like 13 year olds?

Doesn't really matter cos he didn't sign either of them.

The only midfielder he signed was Hamza Choudhury, an 18 year old kid from Leicester with a massive affro, he's probably only 5 ft 8 without his hair but his hair makes him look 6ft 3.

Put him straight into the first team in a promotion battle.

He also brought back Matt Palmer from a loan spell at Oldham, another kid who'd played two games at League One level and he IS 5ft 8 and built like a 13 year old.

Pathway for youth but the difference is he trusts them and still gets results.

Cloughs players were playing for him because they were his players, let's give Adkins the chance to fully have his players here to play for him. This surely is basic common sense, something McCabe has in abundance :D
This is professional football not bleeding a schoolground ga.e where you line up to be picked. Do you honestly think guys on a few k a week in front of 20 k supporters with a multi million pound career at stake think I'm not going to play well today because the wrong big is in charge ? Wow

Clough got backed a lot more than Adkins has, so for this reason alone he deserves a chance to put things right.
As much as as it guts me to say it he's got to go too many flawes in his management or we will end up with a Harry Haslam situation next year.

Some footballers clearly don't play for certain managers, this is bread and butter stuff and has fuck all to do with getting picked in a school playground. Although whilst we're on the subject of getting picked in a school playground, I was always the first one picked if I wasn't already the captain picking the players to start off with. :)

Taking a Mickey Mouse team to the championship. All the Adkins apologists on here will claim it was Hasselbanks team but if you hadn't gone up they'd have been crowing it was your fault !

Well done Adkins on playing the kids in midfield...oh I forgot you didnt, Hammond , Woolford and Coutts justified your team selection

Have you ever considered that some, like myself who might be considered Adkins apologists might also be considered Clough apologists? Sacking the manager (either of them) year on year is not constructive to our hopes. We need to let the man build a team with a bit of backing and stop selling our best player at every opportunity. Only then will we be promoted.

Clough is a total waste of space. Hopefully Burton will be in tatters by November and the pompous square jawed twat on the scrapheap.

Burton sold their best player, El Khayati, to QPR in January and have operated with probably the smallest squad in the division. I think automatic promotion's a tremendous achievement under those circumstances.

Yes sometimes none experts like me don't know about circumstances behind things.

However I found an article that says what an influence and how unplayable El Khayati was for Burton under Hasselbank but how under Clough his form and goals dried up. Whether this is a reflection on Cloughs style of play or managerial qualities I don't know. I'll attach the link and have a look at the article yourself. The bit about his form under Clough I will copy below. The thing you are correct about of course is like Clough or not, he has got them over the line, not as Champions and only by one point but next season they will be in the Championship and that is all that matters.

Form and goals dry up.
There were flashes. A pinpoint cross here, a narrowly-wide shot there.

But the runs subsided. The full-backs were less flummoxed. The goals dried up.

El Khayati has not looked the player we all know he can be recently – yet Albion remain top of the league.

The goals have continued flowing even without the Dutchman's creativity to count on. One of their best wins of the season came at Peterborough United last week – El Khayati did not even make the pitch.

Whether this deal works best for the Brewers or for QPR remains to be seen. The Championship is a much bigger step-up in quality than League One.

The Brewers, in letting El Khayati and Aurelien Joachim leave the club yesterday, let two striking options go – but as Clough noted, they have Stuart Beavon, Timmy Thiele and Mason Bennett, while Lucas Akins and Mark Duffy can also play there.

Not if I was picking you wouldn't :)

I tell you fella it could be 81 revisited next season.

That'll show 'em.
Them who think relegation from the PL was a disaster.
If they thought Simonsen's penalty was bad, wait 'til they see Don Givens pass it to the Walsall goalkeeper.

Not tempting fate Lane Ender ... are we going Ajax style shirts next season?

Forget Peters & Lee, it's Peters & Off we pop to Div4.

Wasn't me who said "non footballing reasons", so I'd appreciate an apology. I wanted Clough to have another season until I was told some of the details of his operational strategy by two former colleagues at United. I was at the first fans' forum asking a question - people on here who follow the threads know this. Some have even come up to me in person to comment on this. I'm hardly hiding behind a username (another apology would be appreciated). I'll be in the wetherspoons before the match next Saturday - early doors. I'll have my twelve year old brother with me. Come and have a word if you wish. Nigel Clough is not the worst person to govern SUFC, but I can understand Kev and the prince sacking him. Our history is full of bad people in senior positions. Btw some of your stuff about signings is wildly inaccurate.and you're hiding behind your keyboard when stating them. I wouldn't put anything litigious on a messageboard, nor anything inaccurate. I have never said NC broke the law - just that I understand the sacking "for non footballing reasons". His chronic waste of money was good enough reason to sign him, imo, but I dislike sacking manager after manager and would have let him go at the expiration of his contract in the summer, if he didn't get us up. My agenda is not anti Clough, its anti bad management of SUFC.

were they promoted when Hasselbaink left early december

he saw them over the line
Adkins never got near the line
or the play offs

hasselbaink got 42 points clough 43
JH got 41 points in 20 games average of 2.1 pts a game Clough got 41 points in 25 games average 1.64 pts per game.
NC was not in charge for the Gillingham game, hence the totals add up to 45 games.

Just because it's got "Blades" in the username doesn't make him a Blade.

There was one on BM who was similar, couldn't bare to see Clough's name abused and criticised.
Admitted when Clough got fired he was a "Clough Fan" and followed him wherever he went.

Do that on FB/twitter and you're a weirdo stalker.

Clough was sacked for non-football reasons... that's what Kevin McCabe said last week.
One decision he's got 100% right.

bridgfordblade is Closeasablade from Bladesmad. Obviously he's now 'Closeasabrewer'. He's even wrote a book that explains his connection to Clough, and it made it into a national newspaper.
