Zak Brunt and Kacper Lopata

Would not be surprised if we sent others your way. Maybe Seriki and Hackford for example.
Seriki will go higher I think league two or one. Hackford, Osula, Gordon and Arblaster are probably candidates to go out to non league this month.

I asked the question on twitter and the general response was because Southend are National league, it doesn't count towards the 2 clubs.

Here is the rule in the Fifa handbook (the FA defers player registration rules to FIFA as the higher authority by the looks of it):

Players may be registered with a maximum of three clubs during one season. During this period, the player is only eligible to play official matches for two clubs...

Googling takes you on a bit of a maze, but the interesting story that crops up is Hatem Ben Arfa, who was released from Newcastle after 6 months on loan with Hull. FIFA refused his registration for Nice because he played 1 game for Newcastle u23s before his loan in the same season. Perhaps there's a grey area of what constitutes an 'official match'. I'm sure the club are all over it regardless.

Edit; I think I've found the answer, it's not the league, it's the type of loan. They are short term 'youth loans' for 2nd & 3rd year scholars under 20 to national League steps 1 to 4 which cannot exceed a certain period of time. Hence the 3rd January cut off. They're classed as a sort of 'on job training'....I think 🥴

Good news for all three young Blades and I hope Roots is not too disappointed losing Brunt. I wonder if this also indicates that we are confident of getting centre back cover in?

There are always a lot of twists and turns before the fat lady sings it seems. If I had to choose then Lopata is the one I would go for the most as our back four capability is almost geriatric. Good luck to Zac, and tell me Blades, what's the word on Neal, any good?

Very different to Brunt. Neal is a holder rather than an attacking minded midfielder he has good physicality and commitment and a knack for coming out of the challenge in possession of the ball. He also possess a good passing range and is a high character player well liked and a leader. However from my point of view he’s a bit limited athletically and just looks awkward on the pitch he has an unorthodox running style which doesn’t help him in terms of the eye test.

He’ll give everything and help to screen a defence but he’s not going to offer anything like the same attacking output as Brunt. Others rate him more than me however and I still think he’ll make a career in the game.

Cheers Yogi just what I needed, the great unwashed of ShrimperZone will pore over your words in great depth and with gratitude (mostly).

Compared to Brunt, we may think Neal's game is more suited to a team near the bottom of the table. He's a strong lad who likes a challenge.

Brunt may possibly be allowed to use his creativity more for Notts County who are chasing promotion. They seem to be in good form at the minute.

County's manager Ian Burchnall was Brian Deane's assistant when Deano managed Sarpsborg.

I think so it makes sense all round. Wouldn’t surprise me if one of the strikers or other midfielders found their way down to Southend this year as well.

Neal captained our U23s to the title last season and has been very popular at Kettering this season.
He came back to play for our U23s and was Man of the Match against Wednesday (who had overage players Luongo and Byers opposite him).
If any Shrimpers can be bothered:

Neal seems to have been the one to make the successful U23 team tick, tidying up in front of the defence and getting the attacks moving.

Good for Southend. Brunt leaves but they also get another good one. Might be suited to the current predicament.

I've clicked on that thread and you could have picked from numerous Kettering fans saying the same thing.
Here's some on Neal our own weirdo did earlier:

I’ve watched Harrison Neal numerous times since he was fifteen, he’s a great footballer, always makes himself available to the player in possession, never stops running, always knows exactly where his teammates are and consequently rarely loses possession. It’s true he does have a unique running style and isn’t the quickest across the ground, but mentally he’s two passes ahead of most.

I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t very quickly become a fans favourite, he certainly wont let you down. 😉

Good to see that Macron's shirts haven't changed 😂
After years of enduring Nike shirts direct from the catalogue we finally thought we'd arrived with a customised Hummel range, and very classy they were too, unlike the team. Then in typical Southend fashion at the end of the first season with them the deal was terminated by mutual consent, which normally means we owed them money. So up rocked Macron. I'm normally an XL but to get a shirt anywhere near my god like body I had to buy XXXL so I understand the off topic message from a Shrimper.
