This is the Brandywell, home of Derry City. It's pretty much next door to Celtic Park, but the Derry version is for the GAA games of hurling and Gaelic football.

Who needs to pay to see the match when you can watch it from the cemetery steps?

Derry is a beautiful city with its ancient walls intact. The sun shining on the River Foyle looks fantastic, and there is always the chance of a trip to see the murals of the Bogside for a genuine slice or two of recent history.

Hands up if you knew Che Guevara was of Irish stock.

He was, you know.

He wasn't though..

And for a little balance.. if it's to be really "genuine" one needs to take off the green (and of course, orange) tinted glasses.

The history of Londonderry/Derry is fascinating throughout the centuries. Ancient Irish history, later at the centre of the pan European political-religious conflict (so immense, the aftermath is still played on the streets across Northern Ireland and Ulster, though thankfully in a climate of increasing tolerance). Not to be overlooked is the role the city and its inhabitants played in the Irish Famine and then later in supporting the North Atlantic merchant and naval fleets in WW2. The well documented recent history, of course, is in the memories of a lot of us for a number of reasons.

I'd recommend anyone to visit the city for a break (take an umbrella) and to enjoy it best, open your mind and appreciate a rich and diverse history.

Peace through football. Derry's team and fans were welcomed to Aberystwyth by this Welsh choir:

The singing was about as good as Aber's performance but who cares? This is what sport should be like; played in a spirit of friendship. In fact, it's what life should be like. Imagine if world peace were to break out; there'd be a choir to welcome us everywhere we went and it would be bomb factories closing down for a change.

And if they were any sort of football fans they would have reciprocated with a close harmony song about that looker who is suitably under dressed.

A treat to come across someone from Glasgow who doesn't follow one of the Auld Firm, but I always thought the Jags' full title was Partick Thistle Nil.
I'm just home from seeing us score a couple more than Nil tonight.

Going from the thread of clubs you dislike most, who is your second club you follow.

For me I have 2 I always keep an eye out for
1st. Killmarnock cause we got Jock Bryson from em..

2nd. Colchester United, me and mi dad always use to look for their score, can't really explain why, I think it had sommat to do with one of dads friends..both long gone now..

St. Pauli.

Now known as Lisburn Distillery

Surrounded by Drumbo dog racing track. Which, to be fair, has a great restaurant/viewing area and is well worth a visit should you find yourself in the area.

My only quibble was having to pay more for a pint of Pepsi for Jnr than a pint of beer for myself.

Dare I say Sheffield United?

I'm from Glasgow and very much first and foremost a Partick Thistle supporter.

When I was a boy my 2nd team was Liverpool as they won stuff (unlike my first team). That was until I went on holiday to Scarborough in 1988 and clocked somebody at Flamingo Land wearing a red and white striped football top. Closer inspection of the badge showed it to be a Sheffield United one and I've followed the fortunes of the club ever since.

I've only ever been to 4 games but it looks like Walsall away on 14th Jan might be my 5th with a bit of luck.
Alan Hansen signed for Liverpool from Partick didn't he?
I attended Firhill back in 1989 . Jags beat Hamilton 3 1.
Partick fans spent the game singing Andy Murdoch, you're a wanker as I think the goalie had jumped ship to Hamilton. Or something.

Nowadays I couldn't care a shiny shit for any Premier League team (especially one with Deli Ali in it) and I look out for any team with a Blade connection hoping they do well

Split personality there Snowman?

Surely it's Spuds for you with our Kyle bombing up and down the wing?

Bury
Annan Athletic
Queen of the South
Berwick

4.50 on a Saturday afternoon, results on World of Sport, or Grandstand, just before "The Basil Brush Show", always wondering why a football team would be called Queen of the South or Hamilton Academical

I keep an eye out for Hibs and the Whitecaps as they used to be my local sides and I've seen them several times. And based on the original Amiga version of Premier Manager (when you were forced to start in the Conference), I still want to see Macclesfield Town do well.

That was the best selling footy manager franchise for years, interesting story behind it as well.

Correct on all accounts.

Murdoch returned to the club later and all was forgiven.

The other well known player we have produced in recent history is Mo Johnston.

Two of the household just went to support the hopeless cause of Rotherham playing v Burton this evening, so I guess this makes Rotherham their second team. I have been known to go to Hillsborough with a friend to support Fulham so this would make Fulham my second team. I think I have converted my Fulham friend to have Sheffield United as her second team.

Celtic

Also soft spot for 1860 Munich as they have a group of German Blades. Great blokes and got myself and a group of friends tickets to watch them in away end v Union Berlin whilst on a stag do. 10 Euro, able to drink in the stand and fantastic atmosphere. German football does it right.

Wow. Quite impressed by my memory here.
Thanks Jaggy.
Love the colours Partick wear by the way.

Partick fans had a fanzine named after an ex player of ours.
The Johnny Flood experience was named after our wee red haired attacking midfielder from around 1978 ish.
I also saw Clyde stuffed 0 3 by Meadowbank Thistle in 1989 again at Firhill.
"Macaroons macaroons" cried the sweet vendor.

You can relive it all again!

We were a First Division club at this point and very seldom on TV so you're quite lucky. :p

Why "hand on heart?" Think you'll find most people who go to BDTBL are 100% Blades. I personally find watching other teams as a neutral very boring unless I'm with my good friends William, Fred or Victor.

Agreed, to a degree. I sometimes bob along to watch Rugby Town play. I enjoy any football really (although Premiership on TV a chore).

Thing is, I want Rugby to win and when they score I'll clap. When they concede I will shrug my shoulders.

So I agree, the only passion for football for me is following Blades. Involuntary going barmy when we score, deep and dark emotions when we concede...

....and Alan Rough, of course. 400 appearances for the Jags and 53 for Scotland, when Scotland caps were considerably harder to win than they are nowadays. :(
