If you could nominate any player from the past to be inducted into a Who's Who of Blades Legends, who would you pick and why?

We've done this before but people tend to just pluck a name out of the air without giving any reasoning for it. We want some more wordy responses this time.

Perhaps your nominated player was a wizard with the ball at his feet. Perhaps he was absolutely crap but always gave 100%. Or maybe he was just a really nice bloke.

It does generally help if you've seen your nominated player actually play a game of football, which might limit the younger readers slightly.

You old 'uns keep asking for a memory lane section, so get to it :D

Loads and loads of memories the best i've seen at BDTBL by a country mile Tony Currie he really did get BDTBL rocking, sitting on the ball taking the piss owt the opposition, running towards the kop blowing kisses, pin point passes, thunderball shots with TC on the pitch the Blades always had a chance.

Steering clear of the obvious players - TC, Woodward, Deane, Agana, Edwards and the like, I'd nominate Bob Booker. He was the sort of player that endears themselves to the Blades fans - not possessing silky skills or overwhelming quality, but absolutely determined to do his best for the team every time he took to the field.
He tried his hardest every time he put on a Blades shirt, and anyone who has read either "Blade Runners" by Gary Armstrong or the United biography will know a little about him as a person too.
The perfect antidote to the preening prima-donna.

My favourite player

Alan Kelly

Pure class everytime i saw him, you could always count on him to pull of a great save when needed, and that penalty shoot out which im sure no one needs reminding off.

A top bloke aswell

Mel Rees

Very athletic and consistant keeper.
Never made any major mistakes from what i saw of him playing.
A lot more agile than both Kelly & Tracey when they were all at the club.
The only keeper I know of to get picked ahead of Nev Southall for Wales (even though he had to drop out of the squad).
A 100% gentleman from when I saw and spoke to him a few time.
Never too busy to sign an autograph.

100% pure class.

Edit: Best Tash I've seen at the lane too :D

Joe Shaw - at a time when the 'centre-half' was supposed to be built like Chris Morgan, this little guy could do it all, he had a good head on his shoulders to anticipate where to be and great footballing skills so he could go forward and you knew he could pass. An amazing player.

There are a few obvious ones that would get in there anyway. Leaving those aside I would nominate a few others:

Eddie Colquhoun - In the days of hard, tough Centre-backs, this man more held his own. Playing at a time when the Scots had a very good team he managed to break into it.

Trevor Hockey - 'Singing hi, hi hockey, hockey hi!' Hard as nails, run through brick walls. If it moved he tackled it, if it didn't move he tackled it just in case. A better player than he was given credit for, won a few caps for Wales, but always loved in Sheffield for being a real character. Beard and hair of a caveman (with headband), riding around in a Ford Zephyr with a velvet bonnet and owning a pink grand piano helped!

John Burridge - In the same mould as the Hockey in terms of being a real character who saw his job as an entertainer first. An under-rated keeper who was obsessed with his fitness to the point way, way beyond the fruitcake line! Bizarre diets, strange pieces of kit and a warm-up that was more entertaining than the match itself most weeks. I'm not joking, either, Budgie was the only player that has ever got me in the ground early just to see the players warm up.

Bobby Campbell - Another that falls into the 'character' category! An Irish centre forward, who was big and strong, good in the air and not that bad on the floor. But his real contribution was off the pitch. A man with enormous err, appetite, especially for certain beverages. When you see me, ask me about the story of Bobby and the landladies cat!

Maybe a few more to follow later!!

Deano has to be up there for me. everyone know him :D
are we counting managers?

But ill say

Dane Whitehouse. Local lad who loved the blades. Gave it all and would die for the blades. Turned down moves to bigger clubs and more money. If he was still able to play, he'd still be at the lane down the flank now :D
