A few Xmas thoughts, with photos below of the programme from our last Xmas Day match. I never went to a Xmas Day game, and while Boxing Day games are among my favourites (particularly when shared with plenty of family), the Xmas Day morning match for me is one idea to forget. Please don’t mention it to the authorities at Sky!
The event is historic not just because of the date, but because of the irony in the welcome to Joe Mercer’s Sheffield United. In fact, as described in Hodgy’s autobiography (2 pages pictured below), Mercer had walked out and gone to Villa that very day. That must be unique, even though Wednesday like to parody it with their Xmas manager sacking ritual! Interesting reactions to Mercer’s departure.
I never realised how intellectual Grimsby fans are. The programme has a tricky crossword, and I have reproduced an impossible quiz in next post. I will provide answers on request.Anyone who gets them all right has probably got the same programme...or has performed identity theft on Silent Blade

Good one. I knew Curvy Keeley’s dad played for Rotherham, didn’t know he was at Grimsby.
