Mansfield Town, in the snow, 1989 (?). I thought mebbes there was dancing at every away game, but it turned out it was just people trying to ward of hypothermia in the snow. I have a vivid memory of Norman Collier doing the PA announcements.

Blackburn away our big un took me dour 0-0 draw midweek night match late 80s early 90s. Can remember freezing my bollox off thought as a young pup I was immune to the cold don't need a coat. The week of flu that followed taught me a harsh lesson :(

I was at Oxford on the open terrace where it pissed it down all day when we ended that run in October 1998, we were still wet when the buses pulled back in to Sheffield that night. I vaguely remember a picture of the away end that day in the green un' or star marking the fact we'd won for the 1st time in a year and I could just about pick me and mates, so was buzzing.

The rain that day was almost biblical... mind you best memory was that bird chasing her fella along the terrace smacking him for some reason.. she wouldn't leave him alone. That'll learn him!

First away can't remember but probably Donnie away League cup 79.

First solo away was Crewe in 83 on the football special. I did a lot of growing up on that journey!

Best away WAS Ipswich in play off semi's with the Walker goal.

Best away NOW is without doubt Northampton away. Still get goose bumps!

yes, thank you for that. I only got one chance from where I was on the kop and it "looked" a clear penalty in real time them even as a 15 year old. The photo clearly shows that the ref bottled the decision.

Forest away. 29/11/2000. Lost 2-0. Went with my grandad. The most intimidating place I've ever been. Still is. My grandad got hit with a coin thanks to the woman in front goading the forest fans above us.

Feb 14th 1959. Div 2 v Div 1. Drew 2-2 away at Arsenal. There was a big clock at Highbury and we watched it most of the second half; lesson in life at 10 years old, time in a game passes so slowly when you are winning! First trip to London, big game. won replay in front of 49000, missed that, too late I guess. Drew with Norwich in 6th Round, 57000 crowd, great day, thousands of Canary fans in full voice "On the ball City". Lost 3-2 in replay.

6th Round was regular in those days. As an 11 year old I took it for granted, little did I know:rolleyes::).

Probably went to other away games before that (Dad worked on Railways) but that's the one I remember.

Burnley away. In the home end. Chico Hamilton (I think) scored with a header to put us one-nil up but we lost 4-1. Not sure on exact year but I was about 6 or 7 so 1976/7/8 ish.

Not many there as I can remember vast swathes of empty terracing where we were standing.

Whole family went with me and my dad but only us two went to the game, mum, little brother and two sisters went shopping and watched the second half over the wall in the corner of the ground and we could see them waving at us opposite us.

March 1978. Simon Stainrod scored for us. Alan Woodward and Andy Keeley sent off

York City, 4-3 win , mike Trusson scored two , pitch invasion
Can't remember year maybe 82 ,

Stainrod put us 1 up,the nutcase ref sent off Keeley and Woodward ,we ended up losing 4-1. I'm not sure, but I think the ref was McNally.
Silent will know.

1981 mate , fkg great game went up there in league cup also month before , I went to Bootham Crescent 4 years ago for a conference match , ground exactly same 30 years on

Stoke away in 1997. Boxing Day and they underestimated how many blades would go down, with (I think) only a couple of turnstiles open, leading to blades infiltrating all over the stadium. There was havoc when Taylor scored the opener. Deano saved us with an equaliser for 2-2.

One of the best experiences was again at Stoke under Robson. Cahill winner, pirates having. Fight in the away end, freezing cold temperatures, lots of drinks up Hanley afterwards, and hearing my mate tried to walk back to Congleton when pissed and accidentally falling in a ditch before wking up in someone's back garden.

For best away day, has to be Hillsborough 2001.

It was memorable, remember being marched from the station and the river was in flood as usual , windy day as we went 1-0 down to a freaky goal that caught the wind n sailed over Keith Waugh . Not a bad 1st away match although I did think they'd all be like that . Happy blades as the train pulled back into midland station , everyone chanting " Sheff utds back in town again " .. good times

Good times mate rescued another one like that at Crewe 2-1 with 5 mins remaining and won 3-2 .. first time I'd seen any success as a blade 4th Division season was like winning the World Cup & Champions League & shagging Miss World all in one night !

I went to that one but my first was even earlier - January 1956 . My Dad borrowed my elder brother's pick up and took us to watch the Blades play Bolton in an F.A. Cup match. Bolton were a big deal in those days but new beat them 2 - 1. Seem to remember Colin Grainger, our England international who famously scored 2 against Brazil, had a blinder and they tried to kick him off the park ( some teams never change, eh ? )

I also remember Nat Lofthouse launching himself horizontally at a high cross near the end, just missing it and the crossbar as he flew into the back of the net ! Oh, happy day.

Donnie away in league cup day after my birthday 14th Aug 79 lost 3-1 ... second one was better won 4-3 at Mansfield in Sept that year .. third one Boxing Day 79'... that ones confined to room 101 !!

My first two away games were the Mansfield game with my parents, we were on our way home from Cornwall and my dad decided we would go. My second was that game in 79 you mention with my dad and my mate who was then a Blade but is now an Owl

Old Git Alert!
Sat October 27th 1962 at Filbert Street - a month before my 8th birthday - the old man took me on the train ... it seemed to take forever to get there.
We lost 3-1 to the Foxes - it wouldn't have been so bad - I was running on the pitch at the end with my Autograph Book ... fast approaching my hero, Graham Shaw ... only to be hauled away by a copper ... that was it - floods of tears ...
Yikes, all those years ago...
