Tony Kenworthy was in my mind too. Iconic Blade - epitomised real men, not very big but a giant on the field. Strength of purpose, character and Bladeyness! Yet he had a touch of class on the ball and a real style about him. Just what we need now, despite his height!!
When I started watching he was one of the last links to the classic side (along with Edwards) and it was clear that he was loved at the Lane. Even as a kid with limited footballing knowledge it was easy to see why.
You could say him and Keith set the template (or fitted the template, depending on your age I suppose) for what we like now. We'll forgive a forward for his defensive inadequacies if he destroys the opposition and we'll always respond to total commitment and bravery.

I notice 1971 looks like a vintage year.

3 of the most sensible guys on here saw their first game, myself, sitwell and southessexblade.

pure class that vintage ;-)
Acyually mine is 1970 ,October but the 70/71 season ,and Cardiff is my favourite game ,and Reece is my 2nd favourite goal against Brum , so can I still be in the gang ? :)

I tried looking up my birthday to get information on my first game. But there were just loads of newspaper headlines saying unusually large ugly baby born.

Kenworthy was an icon to me ,he Reece and Edwards (the player) are my favourite players. He epitomised everything I love about a player ,guts ,ability ,strength ,bravery , loyalty and passion. He won many points on his own ,a real class player.

As a very young fan, I remember him being deadly at penalties, scoring 16 goals as a defender in 81-82 including a tremendous header v Peterboro in last home game.

Now understand he was also the type to run through brick walls for the team. Pity he can't play left back v Swindon on Saturday!

First Game Attended: First memory is Stoke away 2-1 win October 1973 - Colquhoun scored in both nets !
.

Colquhoun did score an own goal but didnt score for us. He was rushing back to our goal to defend against a right wing cross but it rebounded off keeper McAlister straight to his head. He couldnt get his head out of the way and the ball ricocheted off his head towards the net. In the 2nd half Woody equalised with a powerful free kick that went through Stoke's defensive wall. Scullion scored our winner

First Game Attended: Losing 0-1 at home to Bolton sometime before the 70/71 promotion season

28th March 1970. The third out of four successive defeats that cost us promotion. The ref ruled out an effort from Woody direct from a corner early in the game because he felt Colquhoun had fouled Boswell. The following week's Green Un printed two photos showing that Colquhoun didnt foul Boswell. Roger Hunt played for Bolton in that match. He was the first of the nine 1966 World Cup winners that I saw play (dont think I saw Cohen or Wilson play)

,and Reece is my 2nd favourite goal against Brum :)

1956:eek:pponents not known.

Alan Woodward, special mention Brian Deane.

v Arsenal 1973 won 5-0, night match, watched it from cricket pavilion with baby daughter in my arms as we had no babysitter available. Currie sat on the ball copying Alan Ball's mickey-take two seasons earlier when they beat us 5-0.

Brian Deane's toe flick over his shoulder Bramall Lane end, opponents unknown, sublime skill from such a tall player and he did it more than once.

Goodison Park in the 60's.

My first game 61/ 62 SUFC V SWFC

Dont know if its good or bad but mine are then the same as yours, except all Deanes goals were memorable.

Goodison Park - the school of science.

Loftus Road always has a soft spot - 20 of us went down to watch TC when he signed for QPR

I almost put the Bob Matthews goal in last few minutes at Rovrum- just for the atmos during/after the game and the walk down that fckn alley way!
I know others will disagree, but it wasn't that good a goal on its own merit

Sorry yes Bob Atkins think you're right!
My memory gets worse!
I lived in Wath so we had to get the bus with loads of unhappy Millers - we were doing out best, to look inconspicuous.........

Go on then, I'm feeling generous ;)

P.S I loved Kenworthy too and a bit later I was a great fan of Cockerill.

2 good players that always gave everything

I am in no doubt that this has probably been done to the hills on a forum such as this that has been around for an eternity. However I am relatively new to the place and if anything it will give me an idea of who I am talking with on here as I don't know anyone from adam really and it comes across a bit blunt if I just ask how old people are :D.

You don't have to do it but I would appreciate it if people could share there answers to the below.

Hey Guys,
I'm trying to remember my first game. Is there a website detailing all our results from every season?
I know it was the 85/86 season and I've found a cup game I went to (0-1 vs Derby) but there were definitely a few league games before that.
we don't need a website.. we have Darren ;)

First game : Arsenal 1966

favourite Player. : TC

favourite game. : 5-1, 1971. Sealed our promotion. When I'm on my death bed that memory will be one of the things that flash through my mind

Favourite goal: Tony Currie v West Ham , 1974/5 ..." A quality goal by a quality player" What a goal, we won 3-2

Fav away ground: Haven't got one

First Game - United 1-1 Liverpool Oct 30th 1971

Fave Player - We didn't have a barrel of money but we had Woodward and Currie.

Fave Game - 4-3 play-off against Forest, even if I was violently ill and nearly dropped dead, although the 5-2 promotion at Leicester was up there too, not to mention that 5-4 against Brighton. If I'd been a neutral I might well have really enjoyed that bonkers 5-5 at Swindon.

Best goal - if you add together Currie's screamer in my first game against Liverpool in '71, Jags' effort against Leeds, and Brownie's stonker against the grunters, the distance would stretch all the way to the moon and back.

Best Away Ground - as someone who likes collectors' items, seeing United play at the National Hockey Stadium that night was as surreal as it gets.
