Been mentioned before about the need to develop young players and yet we didn't have a single young prospect in the team or on the bench last night.
If we really don't have anyone capable of challenging for a place or worth an opportunity against a League 2 side something's either going very wrong at academy level or we're failing to provide the right pathway.

I think your point isn’t really fair, it wasn’t round 1, we were playing in round 3 and if we got to round 4 we’d have been 1 game away from a quarter final. Why would we play our academy or bring them off the bench?

It’s not like we are gonna get promoted from the Championship this season so why not give the cup a good go? Same for the FA Cup in January too. Strongest eleven no youngsters.

We should be in a place where young players are part and parcel of the strategy of the club with a clear pathway to the first team. We had 9 players on the bench last night and not a single young player among them.
If we really don't have any promising enough to challenge the level of quality we're currently serving up we must be in a bad way at academy level as well.

We only have Oné who I would regard as a young player in the entire squad.

We’d gone too far the other way in recruitment.

I don’t see anyone we have signed this summer who will increase in value as a saleable asset.

We’re just merely kicking the can down the road.

We seem to also be actively ignoring recent feedback on players i.e. Rothwell from Rangers fans, Ayew, from Leicester fans, Doherty from Wolves fans, Choudhury from Leicester fans.

If they're ready to play Lg2 football they'd probably be out on loan, as a good few are. We've got a big, unbalanced squad of players that need minutes and keeping happy, as well as a need to build winning momentum and good will.

I know you have to have players in the U21's but it is also noticeable the players going out on loan, from what I would class as traditional academy players we have
Faxon, Curtis, Buyabu and Marsh -

With the above Faxon has played twice for Boston in the National League Cup against U21's so not exactly anything new so not quite sure what he is learning there at the moment. He has been benched for the league games.

Curtis - Now in his 4th loan move, although still only 20 the story so far at Cambridge is on the bench and not much 1st team football

Buyabu - Probably one of the more surprise packages although he is already 23 so League 2 loan and evaluate but can't have him in the squad forever.

Marsh - Also in his 4th loan move - Doing slightly better with a couple of league 2 goals and a league cup goal although still not lasting 90 mins. Needs serious thoughts as to his progression.

Polendakov, Matos, Zätterström, Nwachukwu and Ukaki with them can't really say he they are one of our own category and all are looking to be moved on where possible.

It's players like Giggs, McGlinchey and Eadie, I would like to see where they are at, I think they should have least made one of the League cup games this season especially if we aim to keep them in house this season.

Free transfers don't tend to be young players that will increase in value, but I also think we look like a retirement home this season.

I'd not want the club to listen to feedback from fans about potential signings, because fans are mostly ignorant and clueless.

We also need a clearer strategy for the club as a whole that has to include youth development (as well as far smarter scouting but that's another story).
We had Arblaster and Peck come through two or three years ago and since then very little other than One on the fringe. We have to do better.

We do far better than most in this regard. If the players aren't ready to step up, you shouldn't play them. No club consistently produces first team players from their academy.

Genuine question.

How many clubs are blooding new academy prospects every season into their first team squads?

We have issues but I don't think the academy and getting players into our first team squad is a big one for us.

Recent seasons we've seen Seriki, Peck, Arblaster, Brooks, Baptiste and now One all become part of our first team squads.
Before that too we've seen Jebbison and Osula do similar.
Whilst some of these haven't been with us from a young age, the scouting network our academy has. Has found and signed them, which is still a positive thing. And they've gone into our academy teams first.

Sure we can and should look to improve our academy.
I feel like this thread though is just another way of bashing the club or manager.

Apart from One, quite a lot of past tense there. And the reality is we need youth development far more now than we have in the Prem/parachute years.

Some clubs do and we've generally been one of them until recently. We've got no money, will have to sell again in the summer, what option do we have?

There’s 23-27 year old Bosmans and there’s 30-35 year old ones!

We went through a 'golden spell' of youngsters coming through recently.
Seriki (although he went backwards for a while), Brooks, N'Diyae, Peck, Arblaster all played around the same time in the development squad
I am surprised Marsh hasn't yet broken through as I thought he was the pick of that batch. But young players develop at different speeds.
I don't see that quality in the current development squad, unless we class Baptiste and One as part of that group (I class them as first team squad players now).
McGlinchey, Blacker and Sasnauskas are possibly the closest.
McGlinchey looks great on the ball but his defensive game is a way off for first team.
From what I have seen of Sidibe he is no where near ready for the first team squad, neither is Giggs.
I haven't seen much of Curtis so can't comment.
A lot can happen but I think we might have another very good crop of kids in the U18's.
Utd have done brilliantly well in this area, but they can't just roll out 2 or 3 a season.
Ayew is yet to prove himself but I am disappointed Wilder didn't trust Marsh more to play that role.
I don't think our fans are the most patient these days though with the youngsters.

Louis Marsh should be starting for us not Chesterfield. Genuinely. And don't give me the 'if he was good enough he would be' shite - Wilder doesn't trust him and that's it

And then if he has two or three terrible performances and his head drops, he rots in the academy again for another six months.

The lad has talent and needs to play every week, which requires him being at a level we know he can perform at. It's why he's not on loan in League 1.

Wilder doesn't trust him, and I imagine the vast majority managers in the world would come to the same conclusion. You can criticise our summer transfer strategy without putting Wilder's attitude at the centre.

Two of them played against us last night ( Neal & Potter ) and looked better than any of our more experienced players .
We need to be braver in having trust in some of our younger players

As well as that lot we have 8 players under 25 in our squad, 5 of whom came through our academy. Wilder was right that we needed experience. Old or young they have to be hungry (and talented 🤔)

Yes which is great for the time being, but when we need another money hole filled we will lose Seriki or Peck not Rothwell or Riedewald.

Can you do anything else with frees and loans? I think “kicking the can down the road” is the management strategy of the Owners until they can sell us or get more investment in.
Loans 100% but i genuinely think with a proper recruitment strategy and recruiting in June the free market is one that we could have exploited really well. Rather than just signing a player one year with option to extend we have swapped Ings for Ayew on that front. We should actively be looking at the free market for positions we actually needed, drafted a short list and brought over a set of players

For whatever reason the impression was that we were ok to pay fees until we weren’t.

Some of the signing have been really pointless, does anyone genuinely believe that Ayew is going to make any difference to our season? We’re gonna be a lower midtable team with or without Ayew.

So why use that money on a player that’s going to pick up a wage and be gone in the summer? It feels like such a waste. At least try and invest that money in a player that has the potential to still be here next season.

It is criminal we are not blooding some young tale ts they can't be worse than the overpaid dross that is doing absolutely nothing.

You can't tell me Sidibe and Marsh could paly any worse than Campbell has been playing recently.

Wilder's needing experience comment in the squad is absolute bollox. Ayew is the new Danny Ings. Just a gamble on a squad filler. Wilder has been slow to bring players through because his thinking is this season and the next game. Going with what he considers safe options, which in reality are liabilities.

Arblaster and Peck got their chance because we had no other options. Until his injury Arblaster did well. Peck has taken his chance. Seriki and Brooks were around the first team a long time with only Seriki becoming a regular.

We are in the Championship and the gap to League one is a lot smaller than from Championship to Premier League. There is no good reason not to have more acadamy players in the first team squad.

What is the point of Rothwell, Ayew, Ridewald Shackleton, RND being in the squad. I would rather have Baptiste, One, Marsh, Curtis, getting some game time even if raw. Games would bring them on and raise their value.

As for they are not ready comments and Wilder sees them in training etc. The man who brought you Brewster, Cannon, McBurnie, Chong, McGuinness, Grbic, Rothwell Shackleton, Ayew, Lowe, Mee, Ings, Choudhry, etc. Woild not be the best judge of players.

Totally agreed with this although the "AI signings" were a bit left field as some might say, if they would have paid off it would have been a stroke of genius. But Ayew will be gone in the summer, just looking at LW that are on the free market Serbian international Nemanja Radonjić shown in the below, he has pace, trickery, a wiliness to beat players with a good shot on him too. He has played in Europe in Champions League qualifiers and later Europa League. He has 46 caps for Serbia with 5 goals and another thing is he is 6ft which would add another threat to the left wing. Still only 30, although not classed as young he has that experience plus potentially another 5 seasons.
